To have thought washing up liquid would replace a dishwasher tablet?

As above. No dishwasher tablets, but lots of washing up liquid.

Kitchen now has a gremlins/stranger things vibe.

AIBU to let in continue on the wash or should I stop and save the kitchen from the land of bubbles?

Stop!

Wellthatsjustswell · 26/07/2022 22:13

Soap powder rather than washing up liquid. Fairy always foams madly in the dishwasher (as does bleach btw!)

Hellocatshome · 26/07/2022 22:13

Stop it! They are not the same thing at all!

Sweatinglikeabitch · 26/07/2022 22:13

Been there! You have to run it a couple of times without adding anything afterwards to get rid of all the bubbles too. Unless it's flooding the kitchen just let it run. That's what I did, everything was fine.

Pinklady245612 · 26/07/2022 22:14

Save your kitchen while you still can.

If you had fairy but no dishwasher tablet why didn't you just wash up at the sink?

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 26/07/2022 22:16

Spraying air freshener or furniture polish will clear the bubbles faster.
Not that I ever did this as a child. 😅

MomwasCasual · 26/07/2022 22:16

Oh bless you.

Either stop now, OR dig out your skimpy bikini, Ecstasy tabs, glow sticks and whistle, and party 90's Ibeefa-style for the next eight hours.

Haus1234 · 26/07/2022 22:16

Stop! It won’t get any better!

CatherinedeBourgh · 26/07/2022 22:16

Only carry on if you like it foamy all over...

CatherinedeBourgh · 26/07/2022 22:17

I would lob a bunch of butter in to neutralise it tbh.

Eileen101 · 26/07/2022 22:17

Stop the dishwasher! But post pics first please!

IRanOutOfDishwasherTablets · 26/07/2022 22:17

Shit. Dishwasher was all nicely stacked and couldn't be arsed to empty it but needed bowls for the morning.

Do you think there is a tipping point, as in will there be a point that the bubbles reach there peak.

Glad I'm not the only one to do this

You could charge ravers £20 a head entry.

Holy fuck, might just add the whole bottle if I can do this.

Interesting about the butter and the furniture polish . Will investigate.

Foam party!!!

The one time we tried this in a holiday cottage we had to scoop the bubbles outside the back door and the next morning they were still there, frozen solid.

MammaWeasel · 26/07/2022 22:21

Talcum powder will burst most of the bubbles. ask me how I know

WeAreBob · 26/07/2022 22:22

This does the rounds on social media and also on mumsnet quite frequently. Isn't this a thing everyone knows now?

You're dishes won't come out clean. They'll still be grimy. You might as well just stop it, empty it and rinse with a glass of cold water to pour the bubbles down into the drain. You'll need to run it through with nothing in it on a cold cycle to try and clear it all.

cathythegreat · 26/07/2022 22:25

Just pour salt in, gets rid of the bubbles and helps clean the dishes. They'll be fine!

bigbeautifulmonster · 26/07/2022 22:26

I'm here for some photos

Carlichimp · 26/07/2022 22:26

In a dishwasher tab emergency we us a drop of fairy liquid and fill the dispenser with bicarbonate. It really seems to work fine, everything seems clean and not noticeably greasy or muck. Obviously that’s not officially recommended.

If it’s leaking bubbles you need to stop the cycle and clean up, before it gets worse

Iliveonahill · 26/07/2022 22:28

I ended up with an error code on my dishwasher when I did this. Had to rock the dishwasher back and forth to reset a filter or something. Bubbles took ages to go. I thought I had broken the DW.

MMAMPWGHAP · 26/07/2022 22:30

Stop now. I once (and only once) put the plastic sink tidy in the dishwasher to clean it. Bubbles leaking out everywhere. Yet weirdly I often see using the dishwasher to clean your sink tidy in those lists of cleaning tips.

gamerchick · 26/07/2022 22:31

I think a lot of people have learned this lesson. No idea why people just don't wash up the old fashioned way if they have dish soap and no dishwashing tablets.

userxx · 26/07/2022 22:33

I love a good foam party!
