To have thought washing up liquid would replace a dishwasher tablet?

As above. No dishwasher tablets, but lots of washing up liquid.

Kitchen now has a gremlins/stranger things vibe.

AIBU to let in continue on the wash or should I stop and save the kitchen from the land of bubbles?

I cut my dishwasher tabs in half too if running low. I guess like the washing machine, one wash without anything will clean well enough on soap residue alone? Still top Mark's for trying. God loves a tryer or so I hear....

twoandcooplease · 26/07/2022 23:26

Have you got spray deodorant? That'll work!

Tougherpolicies · 26/07/2022 23:29

I'm sorry I know I shouldn't laugh but that's just so funny!! 🤣 We need more pics in the morning (if there is a next morning for you OP!)

LurpakAspirations · 26/07/2022 23:31

@TheCraicDealer your dh did what?

😆😆 though op, throw some more in, I'll grab the glow sticks and see you in 10!

Saralyn · 26/07/2022 23:34

Chuck in a big chunk of butter, it really works!

BuanoKubiamVej · 26/07/2022 23:36

Sleep well op.
Please post a pic of your kitchen in the morning. I need to show my DS why I yelled "no never ever do that" when he suggested this plan.

Augend23 · 26/07/2022 23:41

Have you not stopped the dishwasher cycle??? Surely you stop the dishwasher at the point the bubbles are coming out the sink.

Reigateforever · 27/07/2022 08:08

The advert on the side of this post is for P &G Fairy tabs, so now you know.

This is a right of passage OP. We must all go through similar. You will get a badge afterward to commemorate this learning process.

I missed that and when back to find the post..

Agree @TheCraicDealer he did what???

No I didn't, I figured if they were coming out the sink I'd have less coming out the door, I covered the floor with towels and closed the door.

I like badges, especially if they are glittery, so I will proudly take a badge.

Update, I must admit that it is a little disappointing to report on here but I was very much relieved that upon opening the door I had wet towels but no bubbles. On opening DW no bubbles but plates etc do feel a bit gritty (probably the 0.5KG of salt I threw in)

Going to run it with just water later and see what happens but fingers crossed I've got away with it.

Hahaha 🤣

LOL!

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/07/2022 09:26

Don't use washing up liquid in your washing machine either folks - laundry detergents, like dishwasher detergents, are designed to be low foaming. If you desperately need to wash something in the machine and have no detergent, use some soda crystals or try with no detergent at all. As long as it's not visibly dirty or undies, it'll be fine. Also towels need minimal detergent (it makes them go hard especially in hard water areas) and often have soap and shower gel residue on them anyway. Washing on a cottons wash at 60 degrees will kill bacteria even with no detergent.

End of public service announcement 😁

LetsGoRound · 27/07/2022 09:30

Well if it foams as much as mine did when my then toddler daughter squirted washing up liquid into the dishwasher, then your entire kitchen will be sparkling after the clean up 😁
I managed to combat the foam by pouring some fabric conditioner into the machine.
Try that op.

starfishmummy · 27/07/2022 09:31

I dont even have a dish washer and know that this is a bad idea!!

sashh · 27/07/2022 09:34

NOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

That's the main difference between washing up liquid and powder, liquid foams, powder/tabs don't.

You can had wash with dishwasher powder but not the other way round.

FergieFergus · 27/07/2022 09:36

I've used fairy in the dishwasher when out of tablets - 10p sized blob. Always come out clean, never overspilled!

Oh bless you.

Either stop now, OR dig out your skimpy bikini, Ecstasy tabs, glow sticks and whistle, and party 90's Ibeefa-style for the next eight hours.

Wish mumsnet had a like button!

Goawayquickly · 27/07/2022 09:48

Foam party!
I have done it though, just 2 tiny drops plus bicarbonate and it was fine.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 27/07/2022 09:53

Oh no! I think a lot of people find this out the hard way don't they?!

I once managed to do it inadvertently by loading the dishwasher with some very soapy items that had been soaking. I had a brief thought that I should have rinced them but dismissed it thinking they'd be OK - just very clean!! DH and I had to m scoop foam from the bottom of the dishwasher into the sink. Luckily it didn't escape into the kitchen.

Stop now. I once (and only once) put the plastic sink tidy in the dishwasher to clean it. Bubbles leaking out everywhere. Yet weirdly I often see using the dishwasher to clean your sink tidy in those lists of cleaning tips.

I had to leave the Mrs Hinch face book cleaning tips page for my own sanity.
Some of the ‘Tips’ are downright dangerous: “My sofa cushions have stains on them , the label says dry clean only” dozens of replies all saying “ take the covers off and wash them In the washing machine on programme xyz. I did mine, they look like new and didn’t shrink.”. Well that maybe so but it’s Dry Clean for a reason. Washing removes the Flame retardant finish on the fabric. It could also invalidate any guarantee on the sofa. (I took out a five year one on mine) Or another tip..Use shaving foam, (Wtf).
Ive been blocked now for recommending buying a an upholstery foam cleaner especially made for the purpose from any reputable furniture outlet. Indont know why either.

‘Bleach’ is touted for everything. It isn’t a cleanser, it strips colour and disinfects but it doesn’t actually CLEAN.” I’ve got limescale in the toilet..what can shift it?” 20 replies of BLEACH! All bleach does is well, bleach the limescale, it won’t shift it. Limescale remover will. Others say Vinegar then follow a complicated method of emptying the loo, soaking cloths in gallons of white vinegar, laying them over the affected parts of the loo like a shroud for hours when a bottle of Kilrock will do the job without making the house stink like a chippy.
I feel better now.

twoandcooplease · 27/07/2022 10:23

Can someone tell me if it was just a joke telling op to throw butter in?

Thinkingblonde · 27/07/2022 10:26

Back to topic. I did the washing up liquid in mine once. The suds were out of the back door and snaking down the garden when I came home from taking dd’s to the park.
Had to scoop them out with a bucket. Used every towel in the house to wipe everything down , kitchen floor was clean though.
