Films everyone assumes everyone else has watched but haven't

Sitting like a beached whale in front of a fan resembling the front of a 747 engine, I flickied through the TV guide and saw Film 4 were broadcasting "White Christmas earlier". Someone obviously has a sense of humour.

It got me thinking about films which one would assume everyone had seen but haven't. I have several, the first being White Christmas. I've also never watched:

Titanic
Saving Private Ryan
ET
Silence of the Lambs
and a few more besides.

Are there are films you've never watched which would surprise people you know?

I have never watched
Star Wars

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 18/07/2022 15:56

DP made me watch The Wicker Man at the weekend because he couldn't believe I'd never seen it. Can't see what all the fuss was about tbh. Next on his list is Blade Runner then The Matrix.

I've never seen White Christmas or Saving Private Ryan either.

ZellyFitzgerald · 18/07/2022 15:59

Starlitexpress · 18/07/2022 16:01

I've never watched Dirty Dancing.

I tried to explain the plot to DH and found myself having to keep saying the word, ‘abortion’. It rather put me off watching it again!

feemcgee · 18/07/2022 16:08

Rocky
Predator
Green Mile
Stand By Me
Saving Private Ryan

5foot5 · 18/07/2022 16:15

Never seen:

Casablanca
Titanic
Alien
Dirty Dancing (well I started to but thought it was a load of tripe)

I was once gobsmacked when someone told me they had never seen Sound of Music

tobee · 18/07/2022 16:15

ET, Titanic, Bridget Jones franchise, Notting Hill, Love Actually. Off the top of my head with those.

But there are probably many more films I've watched and wish I hadn't

LeFeu · 18/07/2022 16:17

So many people think I’m weird because I haven’t watched home alone…I don’t get it!

Squirrelsnut · 18/07/2022 16:17

Blade Runner
Mad Max
Notting Hill
Love Actually
Saving Private Ryan
Green Mile

Veetavix · 18/07/2022 16:18

For example:

well, there’s this posh girl called Baby, and she finds a professional dancer in a freezer who’s crying because she needs an abortion, but she doesn’t have any money, so Baby asks her father for the money to pay for the abortion, but the professional dancer still can’t get the abortion because she has a gig on the same day as the abortion, so Baby has to learn the dance moves so the professional dancer can get an abortion, and that’s basically what the film is about…(stops to breathe). BUT the abortion doesn’t go very well and Baby has to ask her father, who is a doctor, to sort out the professional dancer.

DH: at what point does anyone say, ‘Nobody puts baby in a corner’

Me: That’s nothing to do with the abortion. That’s Baby.. She’s the one who has to stand in for the girl so that she can get an abortion 🤦‍♀️

Anyway, he won’t watch it now that I have told him the plot, even though it is BRILLIANT (… and I am not sure that I blame him).

Not that you're being dramatic or anything? Grin

I'm so glad I'm not alone and lots you've listed should be added to my list too.

Anyone who hasn't watched the first Die Hard, if you're an Alan Rickman groupie like me - it's really worth a watch; haven't seen any of the rest of them.
