Films everyone assumes everyone else has watched but haven't

Sitting like a beached whale in front of a fan resembling the front of a 747 engine, I flickied through the TV guide and saw Film 4 were broadcasting "White Christmas earlier". Someone obviously has a sense of humour.

It got me thinking about films which one would assume everyone had seen but haven't. I have several, the first being White Christmas. I've also never watched:

Titanic
Saving Private Ryan
ET
Silence of the Lambs
and a few more besides.

Are there are films you've never watched which would surprise people you know?

Love Actually. I lasted 5 minutes.

stayathomer · 19/07/2022 07:56

I’ve seen just about every film here except Resevoir Dogs, Alien and Citizen Kane, I’ve never seen the full gone with the wind (I always see bits of it!), Saving Private Ryan or Ben Hur. Oh and all of When Harry Met Sally (I tried to watch again recently and just couldn’t which is so strange!) Oh and the notebook and la la land!!!

I couldnt get it with Mamma Mia. Then again, i hate any film where they break into singing mid way through a conversation.

@KyaClark

I've never watched Pulp Fiction.
I think about my failure as a human at least weekly.

I haven't seen any of Quarantino's films except Pulp Fiction, and I deeply regret having done that.

So many to add to my list - or not.

Interesting that so many haven't watched Love Actually. If it's ever mentioned on here it's universally slated.

I hope you all find a way to keep cool in today's heat.

La la land isn't a great film , but it has the best ending.
I've never watched the 'deer Hunter '

HRTQueen · 19/07/2022 09:09

Matrix
Top Gun
Lord of the Rings
Die Hard
Rambo
Avatar
The Greatest Showman
The Sound of Music but seen so many clips almost feels I have watched it
Harry Potter Films watched half of the first one that’s enough

I finally watched Blade Runner last year what a waste of time that was

DH has never seen The Shawshsnk Redemption and won't watch it out of stubbornness because I've said he should watch it. He said it's not his kind of film. I said how do you know until you watch it?

My boss at work has never seen Top Gun but that's not massively surprising as she's only in her 30s. But my friend's DH has also never seen it and he's in his 50s which I though was odd. In my year at school, everyone saw it at least twice at the cinema, more if you fancied Tom Cruise.

i haven't and wont watch "girly" weepy films as ive zero interest
same with a boxing, rugby and football match as in 22 years of being together my ex(only had the 1)wasn't interested and i certainly wasn't.

i never had it at home as my dad wasn't intrested either and hes coming up 60 so unheard of in the 80s/90s for a man not to be interested especially about rugby as im valleys south wales and its rife here and a way of life.

(i used to be smug about not being a sports widow, when everyone used to moan about their other halves)

ive never watched a period drama either or a reality show apart from big brother

my friend was really gobsmacked and really couldn't get her head around the fact ive never seem a episode of love island as (her words)its been going for years and they do celebrity ones.

i told her i dont watch live tv or demand and never had Freeview so over the years ive always had something decent to watch and have been paying for multiple streaming services for the fire stick for years

ive always been just because its popular or expected of you based on gender stereotypes you do you and bugger what anyone else thinks

Star Trek was never a big universal hit though, only appealed to a certain audience. Frasier was big in the USA but it didn't have the big success over here like Friends had so again it's not a show that should surprise people you hadn't watched.
As I said in another post too Star Wars and Matrix are Sci Fi hits too, whilst popular in that genre it's still not a franchise that the masses would have seen as if you aren't into that type of film you'd have no interest.
