Films everyone assumes everyone else has watched but haven't

Sitting like a beached whale in front of a fan resembling the front of a 747 engine, I flickied through the TV guide and saw Film 4 were broadcasting "White Christmas earlier". Someone obviously has a sense of humour.

It got me thinking about films which one would assume everyone had seen but haven't. I have several, the first being White Christmas. I've also never watched:

Titanic
Saving Private Ryan
ET
Silence of the Lambs
and a few more besides.

Are there are films you've never watched which would surprise people you know?

I've never watched any films in the Rambo, Robocop, Indiana Jones, Rocky, Lord of the Rings, National Lampoons or Star Wars series.
Never seen The Goonies, ET, most horror films.

Managed to make it to mid 30s before watching Top Gun (and that was as DHs request before I watched the second one).
In return I made him watch Forest Gump as he'd never seen it (he's also never seen Titanic, Dirty Dancing or Gremlins 😱 - we are 80s babies in case you can't tell 😂)

Thanks to DH I've watched Die Hard 1 & 2 but would happily have never seen them (and I like Alan Rickman).

dropthevipers · 18/07/2022 16:45

Citizen kane, star wars,

HereBeFuckery · 18/07/2022 16:46

I have also never watched any Quentin Tarantino, beyond clips that always get featured; those were enough to tell me it's not my kind of cinema. The breathless, voyeuristic panting over violence does not appeal.
Not seen any Godfathers, Aliens or Fasts and Furiouses (Furiosi?) - similarly unappealing.

Supersee · 18/07/2022 16:46

Also White Christmas
Bambi

Lemonyfuckit · 18/07/2022 16:51

It would be quicker for me to list the ones I have seen. If it's a classic, I probably haven't seen it. If it's a cheesy romcom, I probably have. I suppose it's it's a classic cheesy film / cheesy romantic film, then I've probably seen it many times (Top Gun, Greece (1&2), Dirty Dancing...

Whichjobnow · 18/07/2022 16:52

Any of the following film series' -
Alien
Predator
Star Wars
James Bond
Jaws
Harry Potter
Rocky
Die Hard
Lord of the Rings

Don't know why but series' just don't really appeal.

Also loads of 'classics' like the Italian Job, Casablanca, Rebel without a Cause, Gone with the Wind, etc etc.

Star Wars
Star Trek
Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy

Science fiction leaves me cross-eyed with boredom.

Lalalaleeloo · 18/07/2022 17:03

I've never seen The Matrix, Star Wars or The Lord Of the Rings. This surprises people. I apparently look like a fan of these films.

I've never seen The Shawshank Redemption even though it's dh's favourite film.

Other popular films I've never seen;
Indiana Jones
Back to the Future
White Christmas
Saving Private Ryan
Dirty Dancing
Avatar
Top Gun

LakieLady · 18/07/2022 17:04

Any Star Wars
Back To The Future
Marvel Films
The Matrix series
The Bourne series
Any Bond film post-Goldfinger

TimBoothseyes · 18/07/2022 17:08

Star Wars
The Goonies
The Sound of Music
The Greatest Showman
ET
And many, many more.

TimBoothseyes · 18/07/2022 17:10

Pressed too soon. I don't really watch films, I find most of them boring and full of plot holes.

Do you read fiction or watch TV dramas?

PerrinAybara · 18/07/2022 17:13

Titanic
Silence of the Lambs
Forrest Gump
Home Alone
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Encanto

PatsyJStone · 18/07/2022 17:22

Pretty Woman

thesparkthatbled · 18/07/2022 17:26

I've never seen Grease, or any James Bond films

Funkyslippers · 18/07/2022 17:27

tobee you're so lucky that you've never seen Notting Hill or Love Actually. I really wish I hadn't!!! 🤣

EmmaGrundyForPM · 18/07/2022 17:33

Dirty Dancing. I was a teenager in the 80s but somehow never saw it.

Mamma Mia - I did watch the first 15 minutes and gave up.in disgust.

I think things like Star Wars and Harry Potter are of their time. My dc were the right age when the HP films came out. I probably would never have watched them if I hadn't had dc who wanted to see them.

ZarquonsSandals · 18/07/2022 17:34

Absolutely loads.
I did try to watch ET about 2 or 3 years ago. I'd been put off watching because it looked like a load of rubbish. I was therefore not unsurprised to discover that it was a load of rubbish. Gave up after 20 min.

rookiemere · 18/07/2022 17:35

Jaws

phishy · 18/07/2022 17:38

Reading lists of films strangers haven’t watched is about the same as looking at other people’s holiday pictures.

orbitalcrisis · 18/07/2022 17:39

There's lots already mentioned but the oddest one is probably The Godfather as I've read the book! Is the film as obsessed with the size of people's genitalia as the book?

NellesVilla · 18/07/2022 17:48
  • Harry Potter- books or films
  • Star Wars/Trek
  • Die Hard
  • The Lion King (and most Disney films actually)
  • St Elmo’s Fire
  • Anything with Will Ferrell in (apart from 5 mins of Elf and that will never be repeated)
  • Lord of the Rings
And @KylieCharlene , I love the Bond films in an ironic way. They were great during covid! Give them a go; some are actually really fun!
NellesVilla · 18/07/2022 17:50

And not than anyone’s interested but we saw Pretty Woman the musical the other day. V tacky with crap, pointless songs but a few laughs!

BestIsWest · 18/07/2022 17:57

Funnily enough I started a long list the other day of films I’ve never seen, many mentioned above, with the intention of watching.
So far I’ve watched:
Top Gun
Back to The Future
The Breakfast Club
Pitch Perfect
When Harry Met Sally.

Jurassic Park is up next.

I’m more of a reader and tend to zone out unless I’m in the cinema but I’ve found if I break them into chunks like a series they work better for me.

the80sweregreat · 18/07/2022 17:59

Star Wars films
Star Trek films
Lord of the rings
American pie
