So disappointed with my eufy, what am I doing wrong?

I’ve resisted the urge for so long and finally, after reading one too many ‘it’s life changing, wish I’d done this years earlier’ reviews I took the plunge on prime day

just run it for the first time (after taking an absolute age to set up) and am seriously unimpressed. Left huge swathes of the carpet untouched, and went over the same spots more times than I can count. Missed very obvious, loose bits on the floor that I deliberately left as a test. Then took itself back off to its charging station apparently thinking it was a job well done?

I spent so long moving cables, things off the floor then having to redo the bits it missed etc I literally could have just given it a hoover myself.

so disappointed I fell for the hype. What am I missing?!

yabu - I love my Eufy, robot hoovers are amazing
yanbu - they are rubbish

  1. never watch it - it will get there eventually. Set to come on when your not there

  2. the point of it is that you learn to always have cables and stuff off floor every evening, so it comes on at 7am and hoovers whilst your getting ready. If you have to move stuff, there’s no point. Even toddler tidies before bed due to this

I'm sorry but this really made me laugh Grin

Caspianberg · 17/07/2022 20:57

But yes, love it.

we have all been in and out garden today. Ds trailing sand everywhere, grass, biscuit crumbs no doubt. In the morning, by the time we go downstairs it will be magically gone

RewildingAmbridge · 17/07/2022 20:59

Ours goes off at 6:45 every evening, while ds is in the bath/shower. My house is much tidier as you have to pack everything away.
Also which model did you get? Ours has a mapping function that shows you where it's been. It doesn't seem logical in its method but it gets there.

PearlClutch · 17/07/2022 20:59

Use treats, a clicker, and a whistle, and be patient. It might be a bit shy at first but it will eventually gain confidence.

SweatyAndGrumpy · 17/07/2022 20:59

Agree with pp

  1. Never watch it
  2. Keep your floors clear of cables
  3. Accept that it's strength is in going round every day so over time your floor gets cleaner. It's not a 'one off deep clean' kind of tool

I bloody love mine! I have a small child and budgies, so there is always something on the floor! He comes in every morning for half an hour but a couple of times a week I let him run until he’s exhausted and takes himself home.

RewildingAmbridge · 17/07/2022 21:00

I also let it run around the kitchen while we're eating dinner in the dining room, picks up any bits and pieces from veg prep etc

Namechange671 · 17/07/2022 21:02

if yours runs out of battery do you find it difficult to get it to charge again?

SeaGrassMirror · 17/07/2022 21:05

it should go back to the charging base if it gets too low.

galacticpixels · 17/07/2022 21:07

Did you charge it before using it? When I used it straight out of the box I was so confused because it was really slow and picked up nothing. Then I charged it and it was great.

Namechange671 · 17/07/2022 21:10

If it gets separated from its base and runs out of battery eg you use it upstairs and the base is down. How easy do you find it to get it charge if the battery is dead? I found this so difficult. No idea if I got a dodgy one or if us a common problem.

Minimalme · 17/07/2022 21:10

Have you considered the naughty step?

He's only young and probably just testing boundaries.

Hunderland · 17/07/2022 21:12

It doesn't follow a specific pattern that you see, it looks like it randomly goes everywhere but it does get round eventually. On day 1 DH sent it round 4 times, the carpet was spotless.

Eufy has literally been one of the best things we have ever bought.

onmywayamarillo · 17/07/2022 21:13

Okay I had the same today.. you have to put it on Automatic mode and it will go a-lot better! I think it's set to edges! Which is obviously useless.

Also don't follow it about, I just left mine whilst I took the dog out and voila it was lovely to come home to

Lazyteens · 17/07/2022 21:14

Was there very bright sunlight on some of the floor? My Eufy gets very confused if it’s too bright and goes back and forwards over the same spot. We love Eufers in our house!

crabcakesalad · 17/07/2022 21:17

Which model did you get?

We love our Eufy but did splash on an x8. I agree with others watching it will drive you mad. We also found ours look a couple of days to map the layout but is now very efficient at getting around. Ours goes daily like other posters

gaggiagirl · 17/07/2022 21:19

Mine threw itself down the stairs in the first week of ownership it badly bruised and cut my hand as I tried to stop it from smashing into my toddler at the bottom of the stairs. This was about 4 years ago. Eufy were great in their response to be fair to them but I hope eufys are no longer so keen to go for a jump

NuffSaidSam · 17/07/2022 21:20

Give it a break op! It it's first day on the job! I'm sure it'll get to grips with it soon.

ouch321 · 17/07/2022 21:22

Yeah they're v. hyped up on here. Got one a couple of years back after there was a flurry of posts about it, I got sucked in, (pun unintended) and was so unimpressed.

I think it was like the Snag thing when loads of posters all of a sudden started posting about how much they loved their tights.

Have since got a new cordless vacuum which is miles better than the robot one.

sidheandlight · 17/07/2022 21:26

what is this Eufy? a new magical pet... Then took itself back off to its charging station apparently thinking it was a job well done? I googled and I have to admit also this made me laugh so much.

trilbydoll · 17/07/2022 21:26

Watching it is a surefire way to drive yourself mad. I set it off and close the door - it seems to do better without an audience 🙃

Chooksnroses · 17/07/2022 21:27

In these circumstances I just place it back on the charging station.

TokyoSushi · 17/07/2022 21:30

Completely agree that it's much better if you don't watch it!

AlternativelyWired · 17/07/2022 21:30

Sounds like my adhd way of hoovering/mowing the lawn/anything really. Maybe your eufy is neurodiverse like me and can't do logical manoeuvres on the floor. I get there eventually too. It's called taking the scenic route.
