So disappointed with my eufy, what am I doing wrong?

I’ve resisted the urge for so long and finally, after reading one too many ‘it’s life changing, wish I’d done this years earlier’ reviews I took the plunge on prime day

just run it for the first time (after taking an absolute age to set up) and am seriously unimpressed. Left huge swathes of the carpet untouched, and went over the same spots more times than I can count. Missed very obvious, loose bits on the floor that I deliberately left as a test. Then took itself back off to its charging station apparently thinking it was a job well done?

I spent so long moving cables, things off the floor then having to redo the bits it missed etc I literally could have just given it a hoover myself.

so disappointed I fell for the hype. What am I missing?!

yabu - I love my Eufy, robot hoovers are amazing
yanbu - they are rubbish

Very happy to have made some people laugh but really wasn’t intending to, I was going for righteous indignation 🤣

I literally stood there glaring at it with my hands on my hips, going ‘where does it think it’s going? Does it think it’s done? How can it think it’s done? It’s not done!!’ 😩

@Drysocketnooo which model do you have?

Icanstillrecallourlastsummer · 18/07/2022 10:15

Did you give it a proper chance? Espeically in the beginning it needs to find its way around and it does all seem slightly random. It will also go back if not fully charged.

We have a different brand of robo hoover and it's amazing. But it can be annoying - it drives around the whole room/ ground floor first, going here and there and then sets into a regular back and forht pattern. Sometimes it gives up on certain areas if there are obstructions.

maddy68 · 18/07/2022 10:31

Don't switch it off. Let it do it's think. It'll go back to base once it has done everywhere. I don't have that make but mine is brilliant

TickledOnion · 18/07/2022 10:34

YANBU. They’re shit. I returned mine after 2 weeks. It ran everyday and didn’t manage to clean a single room thoroughly. It would get stuck in a perfectly accessible place and run out of charge. Or would clean under an item of furniture 10 times but ignore the rest of the room.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/07/2022 10:35

We have an Eufy. Eddie. He’s fab

but yes sometimes he does the same spot lots and drives dh mad

def better not to watch and let him do his stuff

he seems better on 30m rather then as long as he takes

RincewindsHat · 18/07/2022 10:41

I like mine, but it does miss spots. I got it mainly to keep on top of the general floor cleanliness, it goes round daily while I take the dogs out and when I get back there's much less dog hair around which is great because I hate hoovering.

Getoff · 18/07/2022 10:44

Was just wondering about these. How do you stop them from hurling themselves down the stairs? Also, I have an upstairs landing where one edge of the hall carpet has, for a two-inch high entity, no barrier between it and the stairwell void. So it needs to be careful of one side of virtually the whole of the upstairs hallway. Not sure how that works.

I read something about "boundary strips". Does that really mean I need to have unsightly strips permanently laid across the top of carpet? (Laying it underneath would have to wait a decade or two, for the next carpet replacement.)

Getoff · 18/07/2022 10:47

Ignore me, I've googled the answer.

barbrahunter · 18/07/2022 11:24

Great thread!

Enigma2000 · 18/07/2022 12:33

You are wasting endless hours of electric charging this thing. Think of the environmental impact and the people who are struggling to pay their electric bills!

I just got in their first before the "I don't wash my knickers to conserve energy brigade" arrives to dish advice and bollock you for having a frivolous product.

I swear you could put a white nightie on and turn water into wine and you would be accused of boasting or responsible for alcoholism.

There...
Its out of my system now, and breathe... 😆😆

GoAround · 18/07/2022 12:42

They are utter shit. And also apparently vampires since they die if the sun shines on them. We now have a real Roomba that maps the house properly, does everywhere except where we’ve told it not to (e.g. cat’s bowls) and then triumphantly trundles off to empty itself. There’s no comparison IMO.

mycatisannoying · 18/07/2022 14:45

YANBU. I bought one and sold it on less than a week later. It's quicker and easier for me just to whip the hoover out. I don't get the hype at all.

oviraptor21 · 18/07/2022 15:35

My eufy is fine. She does a decent job most of the time and she saves me having to do anything except clean out the fluff. She did get stuck in a fee places initially but that's now sorted. She's not expected to be perfect but she does do parts that normal hoovers can't reach so it's a bit swings and roundabouts in that respect.
She's better on a single surface - set the suction for hard floors or for carpet. If she has to do both in one run she won't usually do the carpet quite do well as I'd like. But I can just trap her in the carpeted rooms and make her do them properly 😈

JedEye · 18/07/2022 22:59

I love mine. I just do a quick check round for stray wires, move the cat bowl and set it going. I love that it happily goes from carpets to wooden floors, under the sofa, under the furniture and I can go off and do something else.

I think it covers the whole area over a few days. Don’t give up yet!

Hankunamatata · 18/07/2022 23:05

Performance anxiety be uase you were watching it lol

queenie2016 · 18/07/2022 23:08

I second the roomba it's changed my life doesn't miss a crumb.

Tootsey11 · 18/07/2022 23:54

They are crap, the people who say they do a good job clearly don't know a clean floor from a half arsed job. They don't do corners or in around the feet and legs of things, they can't pick up fluff and single hairs. Just a fad that a lot of people have fell for.

AnnieSnap · 19/07/2022 00:00

I would love one after everything I’ve read, but we have a completely tiled house aside from the stairs and landing. That’s fine I know, but we have a rug in 3 downstairs rooms, all have fringes and one is large. It would defeat the object to take them up when using an eufy, but I hear they don’t cope with fringes, so I guess I’m not meant to have an eufy 😔

Caspianberg · 19/07/2022 05:05

@Tootsey11 - I think they do exactly what we need tbh. Still have a main Hoover for deep clean, skirting, or hidden areas.
But ours goes right under the sofa and cleans edges, cleans under large beds, under cabinets which all awkward with main hoover. It gets the general day to day crumbs, cat hair, grass, sand out , when there’s no way I would be up hoovering every single morning at 7am. I simply haven’t time or energy.

chopc · 19/07/2022 06:09

Do any of your models self charge and return to cleaning if it's not done?

Doingmybest12 · 19/07/2022 06:32

I think it depends on what your usual cleaning routines and expectations are. If you vacuum often and go under all furniture each time etc you are unlikely to feel a robot vacuum is good. But if like me you vacuum only when it looks like it is needed and you don't pull out furniture etc then the standard of cleaning is good enough and I feel it makes me tidy more or I do an extra job while he is working. You need to use it often and as others said dont watch it.

MayThe4th · 19/07/2022 06:33

They’re crap. Completely over hyped.

Hardly pick up anything, and what they do pick up you have to empty them out 3/4 times during the cycle. Might as well just use a cordless vacuum which you still have to empty but actually does some good.

It’s interesting that the majority of opinion on this thread says that they’re awesome, yet the vote is more evenly split. I suspect that because it’s a product that has been so over-hyped on here that people don’t want to come on and say they don’t think they are. Hence the difference between voting and comment.

Oblomov22 · 19/07/2022 06:47

I agree. I don't think it's that great. But it's ok. Had mine for over a year now.
