As I'm getting older, I'm enjoying heat like this less and less and have noticed that actually, when the atmosphere is so hot and heavy like this, I feel quite anxious.
Anyone else??

EnSextant · 11/07/2022 18:41

I am 50 and I love it just as much as I did when I was 5. I can't say how much I love it. It is what I live in hope of!

MsMarvellous · 11/07/2022 18:42

I do t get anxious but I don't like it. Unless I'm on holiday and have a pool and zero responsibilities it just makes everything harder!

MrsPartridgeKleio · 11/07/2022 18:43

Nope. I love it. I have so much more energy when it's sunny.

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2022 18:43

I am currently anxious about the weekend and having such extreme heat.
It makes me on edge

Pixies74 · 11/07/2022 18:43

YANBU... Particularly the fact that it's such a long (and currently never ending as far as the weather forecast stretches! Though admittedly it is at the lower end of unbearable towards the end of next week) stretch.

SafeHeaven · 11/07/2022 18:44

I used to hate heat but then I changed things and now it’s a lot more bearable.

I used to sweat like mad in denim, never wore a hat or sun glasses.

now I wear sunglasses and wear floaty dresses and sandals and it’s much better

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 11/07/2022 18:45

I'm too hot, sweaty and fed up to feel anxious 🥵

Pixies74 · 11/07/2022 18:45

It's the fact that there's no real escape from the oppression.. I guess it doesn't help that we're in a townhouse, but the inside temperature doesn't even really drop at night.

GodisaBC · 11/07/2022 18:46

Nope, I’m oldish and I love it.
Sit in the garden and read and feel like I’m on holiday.

ellieboolou · 11/07/2022 18:50

Yes me! I love sunshine and warmth, just not heatwave heat, on holiday it's ok as air con and pool / beech, plus little to do but relax.

Heatwave when trying to do everyday life and work is just oppressive and uncomfortable.

Shoxfordian · 11/07/2022 18:50

I’m not anxious but I’m not happy
Toooooo hot for me

NoseyNellie · 11/07/2022 18:52

It’s literally a medical thing:

Heat & anxiety

CounsellorTroi · 11/07/2022 18:54

I’m on holiday in the West of Scotland at the moment, no heatwave here. I’m quite relieved I’m missing it. I hate sticky sweaty nights.

Smithstreet · 11/07/2022 18:57

I get it in the opposite way to you. I love the heat and live on the coast and get anxious I am not making the most of it.

Phrenologistsfinger · 11/07/2022 18:59

I get climate change anxiety now. I like the heat but not 40c heat in the UK. Not 50c heat. Not droughts and crop failures and starvation. Not dying of thirst. Not forest fires. Not reducing areas of survivable land for life. Not wave after wave of climate change migrants packing into those survivable areas, stripping it bare, cutting down what few trees and wild areas are left.

It’s already happening but it’s like the frog in boiling water, the heat is being turned up slowly and too few people are noticing it. And as for doing anything serious to mitigate it? No chance.

BirmaBrite · 11/07/2022 19:01

I don't get anxious, I just get ludicrously grumpy !

RainbowBridge21 · 11/07/2022 19:01

I hate it. I'm terrible at regulating my body temperature and get hot and cold really easily but cold I can get a hot water bottle and a fluffy jumper. In this heat it's so much harder manage and I get very stressed and dehydrate super quickly. I miss Spring and Autumn. I go running a lot as well and this heat just takes all the enjoyment out of it.

dementedma · 11/07/2022 19:03

No I love it. Shorts, bare feet, time outside. Hope it stays all summer

myuterusistryingtokillme · 11/07/2022 19:04

Yes! I hate it, I burn the second the sun hits me, I can't sleep, I can't cool down, I'm sweaty and the world just feels oppressive and everything feels too hard.

I am OK when I am on holiday where there is air con, and zero expectations other than to lay semi naked by the pool or sea (obviously you go out and about too, but you don't HAVE to!)

IGotItInTheSales · 11/07/2022 19:08

It's just summer!

It happens every year

HinchcliffeandMurgatroyd · 11/07/2022 19:09

Fatigue not anxiety. I’ve never liked it but it’s worse now in my 40s.

Loics · 11/07/2022 19:09

It is horrible, I lived in a hot country, and a friend there had a panic attack during one particularly hot day - I think it was the feeling of not being able to escape the heat and the fact it was only getting hotter (it's not unheard of for temperatures to reach 50 there, many locals 'migrate' to coastal areas for the summer if they can as it really is relentless heat, where I lived was landlocked, dry and almost desert-like in parts!).
Bloody awful that we're now seeing similar weather r conditions in the UK, if I'm being positive, at least it's only for a brief period.

925XX · 11/07/2022 19:11

In 1976 we had 6 solid weeks of every day blistering hot. I was much younger then and loved it, not so much now.

the80sweregreat · 11/07/2022 19:14

The summer of 1976 wasn't as hot as this one.
That was bad though!
I hate hot weather so much and I want it to do one !

LaurieFairyCake · 11/07/2022 19:14

Yes for me it's climate death anxiety

I think it's all over - when it's winter I get to avoid that thinking and con myself it's all fine

In summer I can't con myself THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO FUCKING DIE IN MY LIFETIME
