Or do other people also get Heat Wave Anxiety?

As I'm getting older, I'm enjoying heat like this less and less and have noticed that actually, when the atmosphere is so hot and heavy like this, I feel quite anxious.
Anyone else??

This is a rarity for the UK though, a never ending heatwave so it isn't just summer. It's something we haven't experienced before (Unless you were alive in the 70's when something similar occured).
Looking at the weather forecast is so depressing. It seems to be no end in sight. It's hellish trying to work, use public transport, sleep etc. I also feel constantly sick in it. This weekend will be horrendous.

TimBoothseyes · 11/07/2022 19:18

Nope. I love this weather.

chilledbubble · 11/07/2022 19:24

Yup im not anxious about the heat though but think my anxiety is seasonal

Yamyam13 · 11/07/2022 19:30

I do enjoy sunshine and warmth, I love a floaty dress and sandals and I grew up
In hotter countries, so i often embrace it... but these days, if its over 25 it's too much and if i have something i'm anxious about it seems to set it off and make it all more stressful and less manageable!

I've only done bits and bobs today, nothing strenuous at all, and was horrified to discover how dehydrated I was when I went for a wee! need to up my water game.

The relentlessness of this heat is certainly making me anxious and grumpy.

WaltzingWaters · 11/07/2022 19:41

No I LOVE the warm sunny weather. Makes me so much happier. But then I’ve spent the past twelve years working in much hotter places, where the weather we have now is more like spring weather.

Get a heart check just to be in the safe side.

coffeecupsandfairylights · 11/07/2022 19:45

Nope, LOVE this time of year.

girlfriend44 · 11/07/2022 19:47

No chance I love it and dreading the winter which will soon be along.

EmmaH2022 · 11/07/2022 19:49

Wait, what?!

Sorry to hear this OP. I have A&D generally but it's much better controlled now. Perhaps I am anxious if I keep checking the forecast but I don't feel anxious, just annoyed.

Certainly I plan round it and dread it. 2018 was awful.

Hopefully you can find ways to feel better.

EmmaH2022 · 11/07/2022 19:50

Sorry, the "wait, what" was for pp who said this was hotter than 1976.

lovemelongtime · 11/07/2022 19:53

This country needs to get a grip. Most of us pay a fortune to travel abroad for a week or two each year in search of the sun, but when it's hot in the UK it's life threatening! Get real.

No one on thus thread has said it's life threatening, have they?

OP is experiencing anxiety.

btw I don't know what % of the country do that, but I don't.

i fully appreciate heat is different if you have a house, garden and don't have to use the Tube.

Yes for me it's climate death anxiety

I think it's all over - when it's winter I get to avoid that thinking and con myself it's all fine

In summer I can't con myself THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO FUCKING DIE IN MY LIFETIME

I mean...we're all going to die in our lifetime. That's the only thing about life that's certain.

Ori1 · 11/07/2022 20:09

Yes I do get anxious in hot weather like this. I don’t know why. It puts me right on edge. I start panicking slightly - I worry about the kids getting too hot, not sleeping properly, I feel too hot myself, I guess my heart rate goes up so akin to symptoms of panic anyway. Anything upward of about 23 or 24 degrees and I start getting the jitters

NCHammer2022 · 11/07/2022 20:10

Not anxiety but…dread. I have to go to London for work at the end of this week and I’m absolutely dreading it. It’s just so unpleasant.

Ori1 · 11/07/2022 20:12

There is a lot to be said for checking the colour of your wee. It should be very very pale yellow, just a touch that’s all & anything more means drink more water!

heartbroken22 · 11/07/2022 20:12

I have anxiety too and have had it since I was a child. I just want to hide inside.

ellieboolou · 11/07/2022 20:15

@lovemelongtime this country needs air con on tubes and buses, classrooms and enforced siestas, maybe then it would be more tolerable.

Paying for 2 weeks in the sun to have a pool, beech, catering and cleaning whilst doing sod all is totally different. Spending 8 hours in an office in 38 degrees with no air con was horrible.

Crackercrazy · 11/07/2022 20:19

I don’t get anxious as such - I dont like it thought - but do worry about the hot nights and how we’re all going to sleep, the kids in particular.

Elphame · 11/07/2022 20:21

Oldish here too and absolutely revel in the heat.

georgarina · 11/07/2022 20:24

I get very anxious simply because it's just getting worse and there's nothing I can do about it

LuckySantangelo35 · 11/07/2022 20:24

How would you all cope if you’d been born in another country?!

get. A. Grip.

ThickCutSteakChips · 11/07/2022 20:26

I have found myself getting more anxious about heatwaves, but I actually think a lot of it is to do with reading stuff online, everyone talking about it and stressing out! So am going to try not to do that anymore.....Smile

VioletInsolence · 11/07/2022 20:31

Yes I get very anxious. I just find it takes all my mental capacity to deal with and I can’t cope with anything else on top of that. I can’t concentrate on anything and I’m just waiting for it to be over. It’s probably partly to do with being autistic.

Ive been frantically trying to book a travelodge for the weekend but discovered that it probably doesn’t have air conditioning so I’m now even more stressed!
