Am I the only one who finds cliche sayings e.g. Facebook quotes Instagram quotes highly annoying. I feel like a lot of people used them to self soothe but I can’t help but find them extremely annoying especially the super obvious ones.

Some of the many that annoy me are:
I am working on me.
If they don’t accept you at your worst, they don’t deserve you at your best.

What cliche quotes or sayings grind your gears?

You do you. Ugh I hate that 😒

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 11/07/2022 09:24

Feeling blessed.

ChinnyTroubles · 11/07/2022 09:25

Happy wife, happy life!

We don't just work hard - we play hard

Tomorrow is another day (really? I never knew that )

So I turned around and said, then he turned around and said (makes me think of waltzers at a fair ground all whizzing around)

BlackberrySky · 11/07/2022 09:27

Virtue signalling. So overused and usually said by people who are lazy and can't be bothered to do whatever it is they judge to be virtue signalling.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 11/07/2022 09:33

Sharing any kind of ‘meaningful quotes’ is embarrassing. It’s so cringe worthy. How do people even find them. Do they google ‘I’ve just been dumped quotes’ ‘I need to feel validated quotes’ ‘Quotes that might get me some attention’

Ones that annoy me in particular ‘Tom Hardy once said (insert pathetic drivel)’

Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning to dance in the rain. Shudder!

Live, laugh, love. Gaaaahhhh makes me want to be sick.

It is what it is.

Rant over - this one really bugs me, especially when it ends a paragraph when someone is just having a minor whinge. Love, if you're going to 'rant' to it bloody properly!!!

Cringe. I think I may have written ‘live, laugh, love’ in someone’s wedding book about 20 years ago. Arggggghhhhh sorry sorry sorry, I was tipsy and emotional - 🫣🫣🫣🫣

‘I’m not being funny but….’
well yes, you are aren’t you. Just own it 😂

Cocobeau · 11/07/2022 10:10

Do better.

OK, this might not be quite what you're talking about but I see it so much and it's a such a condescending higher than mighty thing to say to someone.

SummerWinterSummerWinter · 11/07/2022 12:11

I can't stand trends...

My friend always adopts them.

Two recent ones include: 'that is not the one' (meaning, not ideal) and 'that is long' (again, meaning a bit of a pain).

One I absolutely HATE is 'yaaaaaaaas'.

I find it so weird when everyone around me is saying these phrases that they've never before said in their life - like, where did it come from?!

SummerWinterSummerWinter · 11/07/2022 12:11

Although that's not a saying I guess. I also don't like 'speaking my truth'

Yodaisawally · 11/07/2022 12:21

These are work ones, and i had never heard them before I joined a new company a few months ago;

Deep dive
Lean in (and support)
Be alive to

Cuck00soup · 11/07/2022 12:42

So lucky
So amazing
Blessed

. . . from the get-go . . .

Brandnewwoman · 11/07/2022 12:57

"Reach out ".....in work context .
No !! -don't reach out ,pick up the bloody phone and speak or send an e mail .
No reaching anywhere is required !!

TrashPandas · 11/07/2022 12:58

"Trust your gut" or, even worse, "trust your spidey senses"

Because gut feelings are often completely wrong. Fine, use your nonexistent spidey senses when deciding which colour bikini to buy, but not for any decisions that actually matter.

ThisBloodyWeatherIsKillingMe · 11/07/2022 13:00

Grind your gears
At the end of the day
No problem/no worries
living his/her/their/my best life
gives me the ick
get my head round it
at this moment in time
showcasing - (eg. she showcased her slim figure/killer curves, that kind of shit)

Newnameforthistopic · 11/07/2022 13:10

Kick start instead of jump start.
Kick starting an engine is old fashioned and laborious. Jump start a car engine is quick adds extra power.

IDidntKnowItWasAParty · 11/07/2022 13:18

"It is what it is"
Arrrrggggghhhhhhh

KingofLoss · 11/07/2022 13:20

Everything happens for a reason.

Yeah, sure, it's true, if you accept that the 'reason' is sometimes sheer dumb bad or good luck. So minimising.

SquirrelSoShiny · 11/07/2022 13:20

'Educate yourself' - said by anyone, but especially by any 21 year old with blue hair, zero life experience and the arrogance of youth. Bonus points if they then cwy and summon a moderator like calling mummmmmmmmy if you politely point out that you're very educated on the subject you just disagree with them.

It would be funny but for the impact it has on the young, the impressionable, the generally hard of thinking.

I hate that one too. Often said in relation to absolutely devastating strokes of pure bad luck.

Loveduvetdays · 11/07/2022 13:24

Like I said - well actually you haven't said it so you're wrong!

That's my point - used after every sentence.

Saying 'equally' between two sentences.

..... but I do use some of the phrases mentioned in other posts 😂

Mummommy · 11/07/2022 13:24

The only ones I have found highly annoying in a work context is “Agile” and “Iterative” being used in every sentence, even when there is no value to being “agile” or when change is not needed.

Realising there is so many kinds of annoying
phrases and sayings you have all picked up on!
