Cliche sayings that grind your gears!

Am I the only one who finds cliche sayings e.g. Facebook quotes Instagram quotes highly annoying. I feel like a lot of people used them to self soothe but I can’t help but find them extremely annoying especially the super obvious ones.

Some of the many that annoy me are:
I am working on me.
If they don’t accept you at your worst, they don’t deserve you at your best.

What cliche quotes or sayings grind your gears?

Whenever you feel beaten, adjust your crown and remember who the fuck you are

cringe

Those “In this house, we…” posters. The worst is the Disney version. 🤮

winemedown · 11/07/2022 07:19

Whenever I see the 'if you don't like me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best' I want to write 'ahh I love that quote from Hitler, Idie Amin, Putin etc'. It's a shit way to live your life, this whole excusing bad behaviour because you're not a twat 100% of the time?
My favourites are ones about self confidence and inner strength apparently attributed to celebrity's who seemingly struggled with this e.g Marilyn, Hepburn.

ChagSameachDoreen · 11/07/2022 07:26

"Being my authentic self" which ironically usually means pretending to be the sex you're not, and making everyone else play along.

@steviewiththecankles How could I forget this, “Speaking my truth” “Living in my truth” is probably top of my list!

Gawd! I hate that...

It always seems that speaking your truth... Is stuff often completely divorced from any rational perception 😁😉.

I understand folk do have different perspectives... But this sounds beyond this...

Other ones..: it is what it is 😡.
Know what I mean 😡.
Dance like no one's watching 🤮

Anything likely to be on a canvas in an mfi shop, 😁

Gin /wine o clock
One prosecco, two prosecco, three prosecco, floor! 😁

Hate hate hate those letters spelling out LOVE or BATH (although do quite like the anti-ones... That say poo /wee 😁😁

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 11/07/2022 07:33

It does make me sound like a snob... I'm so far from that irl 😁

Harridance · 11/07/2022 07:34

Chag, do you mean gender?

For me it’s my truth, his truth etc. It always sounds so false, like it’s not going to be the full truth.

Immortalised by Harry and Meghan. Makes it even worse.

ImSoMagical · 11/07/2022 07:53

Pictures of kids/partners etc with "my 🌍"

I have been thinking about this since seeing it on another thread:
He/she had a good innings.

Any that talk about tough times just make you stronger ....no they dont they make you utterly down and depressed

That might be true for you, but I can honestly say I'm stronger and happier now than I would have been had I not been through two years of hell that forced me to re-evaluate my life. I never thought I could get so far down, but honestly, a few years later, I can see it was pivotal to get to where I am, and I'm grateful for it.

It sounds cheesy I'm sure, especially if you are still in the middle of it all. I know I would have told people to fuck right off if they had tried to tell me at the time that I would be stronger for it. At the time I would have said that nothing could make that experience worth it. I sincerely hope that things improve for you, if you are in the middle of it all right now.

My new manager uses the phrase "cover off", as in x will cover off what they need from you. Just say cover, why does it need the "off". Also, deep dive. "We're going to deep dive the information" FUCK OFF!!!

VickyEadieofThigh · 11/07/2022 08:53

It is definitely "making memories" for me.

Yes to all of this.

I personally hate the concept of 'on-boarding' when we're talking about the workplace. You board a bus or a boat or a plane. You don't board a company when you're taken in at an entry level job. On-boarding can just go and jump!!!
Hiring, no problem with hiring someone or employing them but on-boarding is just pushing my buttons at the moment.
Think outside the box - well, I'm not in a box so all of my thoughts are outside the box.
pushing the envelope - I'm not delivering mail so why on earth did this ever become a phrase
The old chestnut of "brainstorming". I could go on but I really wont.

A580Hojas · 11/07/2022 09:01

And me. And "forever home". Just awful.

Wistfultimes · 11/07/2022 09:08

All of the above, plus “let’s normalise…” urgh!

To be fair, I think this was said to the Queen after she had given PA twelve million pounds.
