I just want some peace in the garden!

It's a glorious day and I just want to sit in my garden and relax, we have a corner plot and there's about 5 houses that back onto ours, one house has the radio on really loud and next door recently got a trampoline they have 6 kids and there is always someone on it and it squeaks like mad,
I know I might be a bit unreasonable and everyone has a right to enjoy their gardens but I just wish people would enjoy them a bit more quietly

Same here, corner plot and everything. This year all the kids in the street have basketballs. 10 kids with a basketball all damn day.

the only thing that’s helping is that we are indeed moving to a house with no neighbours!

I feel your pain. We haven’t been able to sit in the garden, because a house to the side of us has family round with young children splashing in the pool. Of course children want to do that, but they’re screaming and shouting and it’s constant and it’s been going on for four hours. We’re sitting inside, as far away as possible.

Yup. I have kids happily playing next door, a neighbour having a bbq with his teens and some friends and another neighbour with the radio on.

That's part and parcel of having neighbours. You have to move somewhere else if you don't want noise.

Ear plugs? It might not get rid of the sound completely, but at least it'll be dulled.

I feel for you. We have neighbours who think it is perfectly OK to let the half dozen kids they have round there, screaming at the top of their lungs all day. I may have just gone into our garden and bellowed at them to shut up. It's gone really quiet, wish I had done it earlier.
Normal playing noise I have no problem with, screaming their heads off for hours on end is not acceptable. We can't all live without neighbours, you should be able to sit in your garden and enjoy without it sounding like someone is being murdered next door.

It's a heatwave. People want to be in their garden, children want to play, people want to have BBQs and have friends round. Even last summer we still had restrictions from covid. Does everyone want total silence from their neighbours? It's nice to hear to normal social noise again, yes it's not always convenient and can be loud at times but enjoying your garden during a heatwave is one of life's pleasures!

it’s just that your idea of enjoying your garden is silence

I live on a newish estate (17year old houses) and most houses have young kids who play out and shout we have neighbours who don’t have kids and are in their 70s/80s and moan about the kids playing out but when you live in a place like this it’s part of life

having aways lived in these kids of streets growing up myself etc I just think live and let live and you want quiet you need to consider what kind of house/street better suits your needs maybe one that’s not so overlooked?

I'm not saying don't enjoy your garden but try to have some consideration for other around you, o don't want complete silence but I also don't want to hear music blasting, I can still hear the music and the trampoline in the house with the doors closed.
Me and oh have 5 kids between us but I wouldn't let them be a nuisance to neighbours in the garden.

I know what you mean ,my neighbour doesn't talk she shouts and when she has had a drink she is even louder 😫

it’s not hard to modify behaviour so everyone gets a break

Because everyone can afford to live somewhere with no neighbours can't they ?

We have to live close together so everyone needs to give as well as take

My neighbour has been using what sounds like an industrial sander yesterday and today. He has been doing this on weekends and evenings for a year and it is unbearable. He has headphones on so he is aware of the noise being made but clearly couldn't care less about the impact on everyone else. We had to sit on with the windows and doors shut and could still hear him.

What did you expect buying a house wiith 5 gardens backing onto yours? That is alot, all houses i've lived in have had 2 maybe 3 at a push

Kids playing I have no problem with.

Selfish people playing music gives me the rage and the crappy people at the back, that let their dog yap & yap & yap endlessly without ever telling it to be quiet, make me want to scream “shut up!”. I don’t expect silence but a bit of consideration means that everyone can enjoy their garden not just the people who make the most bloody noise.

Oh i am your neighbour from hell. My ds has spd so i can't play music loud .. he has been out so i have had phantom of the opera blasting through the house full blast a real treat for.me

Why do people take it to the extreme and say @jmh740 is demanding silence ? I don't expect silence. You're going to hear kids playing, people chatting etc. But I'm currently indoors with windows shut because neighbours backing onto our road are making so much noise I can't stand it.

They are shouting at each other. Why do people do this? I don't mean they're having a row. It's a conversation but shouted. It's awful. Their kids are shouting too. Their radio is on and their toddler is also playing some toy so it's twinkle twinkle plus the clashing radio, them shouting, kids shouting.... That's just being inconsiderate twats tbh.

It doesn’t matter how many houses back on to yours, if one of them decides to blast music out so everyone else can hear, they’re a selfish fucker.

If you want to play music loudly outside wear headphones or buy a house in the middle of nowhere. Otherwise keep the volume down. It’s not hard.

Our neighbour's teenage son recently acquired a basketball and hoop. Every bloody evening, bounce, bounce, bounce, it goes right through my head.
