Sanitary towels are atrocious

HannahsLife · 08/07/2022 16:32

Had DS via Section about a month ago, still bleeding on and off and can't use tampons until 6 week check so using Always towels.

Have they always been this bad?! I remember using them as a teen with no major issues but these are awful! My vagina is trying to eat them, they move constantly, they're so uncomfortable that I keep wanting to rub the area (so I probably have thrush too!) and I'm pretty sure my baby doesn't have diaper rash but I do!

Just a lighthearted rant.

What on watch is up with Always? I can’t believe they are in business anymore- does anyone actually buy them out of choice, or just because they’ve been caught out and that’s all the petrol station stocks.
they absolutely stink-I’m always paranoid tgat people can actually see the scent following me down the street like I am Pepe Le Pew.
I can only guess they were designed by a man who hates women and has only read about a ‘period’ in a teen novel.

😭😭😭😭

LaFeuilleMorte · 08/07/2022 16:53

I used Always for years but they are now awful. Bodyform are much better, and unscented.

I only use Always. There are the only ones I get on with.

ouch321 · 08/07/2022 16:53

Are you using the cheap Always ones?
You need to get the best line they do - Always Infinity available in Boots.

They're superb, so much better than the crap that was around when I was a teenager before I moved to Tampax.

BloodyHellKen · 08/07/2022 16:55

Try period pants (eg WUKA are great) @HannahsLife . Honestly you'll never look back. I think they are amazing :)

TrashPandas · 08/07/2022 16:57

I didn't have periods for almost 10 years and when they restarted, I had the same experience. I'm sure I never had this much trouble with pads when I was younger. I even bought some reusable ones that are definitely not scented and feel lovely and soft but they're still a pain in the vulva arse. They keep flipping around so they're hanging underneath my pants and I'm so ITCHY.

SqueakyShoe · 08/07/2022 16:58

I can't believe they still make scented. It's so insulting that they think our crutches should smell like fabreeze.

It's like the old fashioned scented toilet paper they have in dusty corners of unpopular corner shops.

SqueakyShoe · 08/07/2022 16:59

*Crotches, obvs.

Whatwouldscullydo · 08/07/2022 16:59

Reusables all the way. I used to have to sit in unbearably hot baths or get up in the middle of the night and use scalding hot flannels to try and relieve the irritation disposables gave me. Every month I'd be left with itching and even cuts and grazes not sure why but it happened. Reusables saved my sanity. The irritation amd cuts amd rashes are no more.

AliceAbsolum · 08/07/2022 17:00

Lidl have great ones!

Pipsquiggle · 08/07/2022 17:00

These are good, I first used them as they were plastic free, I keep using them due to the cotton soft feel

Whatwouldscullydo · 08/07/2022 17:00

trash

You need snug pants and don't get the PUL slippy backed ones. Fleece backed ones dont move

OhmygodDont · 08/07/2022 17:02

I don’t have periods due to contraception but always found pads horrible. My dd started her periods a few months back and declared pads horrible and went straight onto period pants. Modibodi and primark.

TrashPandas · 08/07/2022 17:02

Whatwouldscullydo Thanks, I'll look into them. I currently use the ones that BreadmanAndCake says are "fantastic" so I suppose nothing works for everybody.

1990s · 08/07/2022 17:02

Also was very dubious about period pads (worried about using same all day, thought washing them would be horrible)

Absolutely love them. Wuka are my favourite, expensive but fit well don’t feel like a happy - a disposable sanitary towel does now!

BorisJohnsonsHair · 08/07/2022 17:03

Are you in the US rather than the UK? Just wondered as you referred to "diaper rash".

Doingmybest12 · 08/07/2022 17:07

Cheapest own brand pads- tesco, coop , sainsbury etc .

JLQ1020 · 08/07/2022 17:09

Midwives actually say don't use Always as they can irritate use the big cotton feeling ones.

Shrekroll · 08/07/2022 17:09

I use some organic cotton pads called 'Here we Flo' which are great. I buy them on amazon or on their website. Can't abide plastic or synthetic pads!

NoNoNoooo · 08/07/2022 17:10

Bodyform. Always stink and I seem to react to them, I especially wouldn’t use them post-partum…I was told to use maternity pads because they’re more breathable and lack plastic backing. The boots thin ones are good I think.

SamanthaVimes · 08/07/2022 17:10

Another vote for reusable ones, so much comfier!

offyoufuckcuntychops · 08/07/2022 17:11

@HannahsLife I used Always for years, then they "improved" them and they became unwearable. Bodyform are better, as PP say.

The smell of Always is beyond vile.

ecnatsid · 08/07/2022 17:11

I've always used them, I don't like tampons but I have no issue with sanitary towels. However, I agree that some are sooooo bad (and expensive) I won't go near anything fragranced.

PunchyAnts · 08/07/2022 17:12

Another vote for Bodyform over Always.

Question: I have tried one brand of period pants and I really wanted to like them but I felt like almost straight after I had them on, I could feel the wet feeling and they were cold. Is this a problem with all brands or do I need to try another?
