Sanitary towels are atrocious

Had DS via Section about a month ago, still bleeding on and off and can't use tampons until 6 week check so using Always towels.

Have they always been this bad?! I remember using them as a teen with no major issues but these are awful! My vagina is trying to eat them, they move constantly, they're so uncomfortable that I keep wanting to rub the area (so I probably have thrush too!) and I'm pretty sure my baby doesn't have diaper rash but I do!

Just a lighthearted rant.

I can’t use tampons as my cervix tilts. I use bodyform night time. They are fantastic.

Mooshamoo · 08/07/2022 17:58

Apinfortwo yes I'm serious.

New Socks are a handy size.

The big manufacturers have told women for a long time that it is normal to only use disposable plastic pads. (Because they want to sell them),

When really you could use any material to soak up blood flow. You could use wool or cotton, anything. They are much more comfortable.

I have used new woolen socks, And new cloths. They are so comfortable.

The Thick woolen sock was way more comfortable for me, than reusable pads.

Maybe try it some time!

I always used Always from when I started my period, but had to switch in recent years from Always to Tena, because Always are gone so plasticy, horrible scented and horrible to wear!

RedCardigan · 08/07/2022 18:06

WTAF are they still scented, the smell makes me feel sick and surely just advertises you are on your period? Get super itchy with them too

MissKittyFantastico84 · 08/07/2022 18:06

Hiya!

I use Rael pads, which you can get on Amazon on the US. There are the best I've found - really soft and natural cotton fibres.

To be honest, even the best pad in the world won't make up for the fact that you're having to wear them constantly. I really feel for you - I got thrush post birth because of all the pads. How about some 'airing' time!? Sounds awful, but maybe just sit on a towel on your bed with a skirt/dress on? And baby?

SunnyCoco · 08/07/2022 18:10

Reusable pads from Cheeky Wipes.

They have pretty designs and are so comfortable.

Uncomplicated · 08/07/2022 18:13

I know sanitary towels are much thinner than when I was a teenager but they don’t seems to absorb anything at all now. The blood just pools on the surface. Also tampons are too uncomfortable after having multiple children

TiredYorkshireMam · 08/07/2022 18:21

I haven't looked back since moving to reusable. Love them. I agree, I hated the itchy plasticky feeling.

waveyourpompoms · 08/07/2022 18:21

I’ve never had an issue with pads. Used them for over 20 years 🤷‍♀️

TheVanguardSix · 08/07/2022 18:22

I know Tena Lady pads are for incontinence, but I use them for my periods and so does DD. They're not great big whopping nappies (they do offer those!). They do a nice, normal 'sanitary towel' size and they're really comfortable and, crucially, stay in place. The other ones I love are good ol' Kotex pads. They're brilliant.
Both recommendations are nice, soft, old-school pads... none of this plastic perfumed nonsense.

RaspberryChouxBuns · 08/07/2022 18:25

I keep getting recurrent BV and I'm wondering whether it has something to do with the pads I use. Tampons freak me out and the idea of a cup just makes me shudder so I don't have loads of choice. I remember Always being the best brand on the market but they've become super sweaty and actually rustle when I walk, which is objectively quite funny but also frustrating.

I'm giving birth in 4 weeks and now need to track down maternity pads.

lemonyfox · 08/07/2022 18:28

I think it's because you've been wearing them for a while now. I had the exact same thing after birth, weeks of bleeding and wearing pads for so long they started to irritate me.

Actually to the point now that every month they irritate me and I've had to switch to (expensive) bamboo pads!

Foronenightonly01 · 08/07/2022 18:29

If your blessing’s not that heavy anymore get yourself some period pants, kinder to the environment and your nether regions!! If they haven’t made it stateside yet then that’s a market someone should be making a killing off shortly!!

LapinR0se · 08/07/2022 18:29

I bought DIM period pants in France and they are a freaking game changer. Those and a tampon and I’m absolutely sorted. Never buying pads again

Foronenightonly01 · 08/07/2022 18:29

Bleeding not blessings😂….sadly I’m no vicar😁

watingroom2 · 08/07/2022 18:31

Body form are like always used to be (before always added the 'suck the blood out chemicals' .. and plastic and scent - to make you use more product.

Honestly period pants have been a total life changer though - you can get them quite low cost on primark to try. I highly recommend them

Queensize · 08/07/2022 18:31

Sanitary pads are not designed for long term use in the way maternity pads are - you're too sensitive down there for the chemicals (ie scents etc) on branded towels. You need to use maternity pads post birth!

ElephantLover · 08/07/2022 18:32

I use Lillet's Pads. They are a bit expensive but as close to cotton as I've seen. I can never go back to anything else. Even tampons are more uncomfortable for me now.

Geranium1984 · 08/07/2022 18:32

Not sure how heavy your bleeding is but after my birth I used incontinence pants 🤣 avoids the problem of pad moving around.

Nat6999 · 08/07/2022 18:43

Why not use incontinence pants? They don't move around like pads to

sarahj878 · 08/07/2022 18:45

Try cotton reusable ones, better for the environment, they sit better and they don’t itch

ememem84 · 08/07/2022 18:45

Am a period pant convert. Best things I’ve ever bought. I use the modi bodi ones. And have a link for money off of anyone wants to dm me.

Rosebud100 · 08/07/2022 18:47

Another vote for Body form. Soooo much better than Always.

vdbfamily · 08/07/2022 18:52

I moved to washables when peri menopausal as had no idea when I would start spotting. They have been great and good as new 4 years later. They keep me fresh all day and cope also with mild stress incontinence and if you have to wee in the wild, they keep you dry and they also keep knickers looking fresh and new as they do not get stained at all. Have to wash with Fairy non bio though or get itchy!!

cherish123 · 08/07/2022 18:54

I prefer sanitary towels and hate tampons. I suppose if you are not used to them they might be uncomfortable. If you had a caesarean, I would imagine it's okay to use tampons. I didn't have periods for about a year after so wasn't an issue for me. Do you get a 6week check? I don't remember having this.
