Strange comment from delivery guy

PinkStarAtNight · 06/07/2022 12:49

We ordered pizza last night from a takeaway place we don't use very often because it was quite late and this was one of the few places still open.

Boyfriend answered the door to get the pizza and was there talking to him longer than you would expect. When he came back he told me that the delivery guy had asked whether our car (parked on the drive) was for sale. Boyfriend said it wasn't his car so couldn't say and the delivery guy said 'if it is then call the number on the takeaway leaflet'. He then gave Boyfriend another leaflet for the takeaway place, plus one for a takeaway under a different name that we have seen before (they're clearly run by same people) and leaflets for other businesses like blinds and flooring, with the same business name as the takeaway.

Boyfriend said its maybe because the car was parked a little bit on the grass rather than fully on the drive and so it looked like it was for sale. Even so, AIBU to think this was really strange and unprofessional from the delivery guy? Also AIBU to not order from them again as it seems they have lots of different businesses going on, meaning pizza isn't going to be their speciality (the pizza we got wasn't great) and it also seems dodgy to me?

I honestly wouldn’t give it a second though.

MonkeyPuddle · 06/07/2022 12:52

*thought

ComDummings · 06/07/2022 12:53

He just asked a question.

Many people have multiple businesses. It’s not that weird.

Badgirlriri · 06/07/2022 12:54

I’m really confused why any of this bothers you.

SavoirFlair · 06/07/2022 12:55

Good lord , the number of people in British life these days who are desperate to seek out some form of scam or danger, it’s no wonder so many don’t speak to our neighbours and act so insular.

This is not a scam. It’s a person asking if your car for sale.

There’s a simple response you can give.

”No”.

YABU.

Itloggedmeoutagain · 06/07/2022 12:57

Why did he not just say no?
It's a non issue.
He made it an issue by saying he didn't know

newbiename · 06/07/2022 12:58

Wow

KoalaPineapple · 06/07/2022 12:59

Sorry OP but I agree with the other comments, I think you're overthinking this. Yes he's just delivering pizza but he is also a person who can talk and ask questions, it didn't sound like he said it weirdly or it could cause offence, so I wouldn't give it another thought.

Hugasauras · 06/07/2022 13:00

Don't think it's that unusual. We had an old car on the drive and someone came to our door asking if we were planning to sell it for parts or scrap any time soon and gave us his details.

NC12345665 · 06/07/2022 13:01

Who cares? Why are you giving this headspace?

Sally090807 · 06/07/2022 13:04

I think your train of thought is what’s unusual here.

This!

kewgirl · 06/07/2022 13:06

You are joking?
Why on earth is this of the slightest importance
You need to get out more methinks

statetrooperstacey · 06/07/2022 13:06

I see lots of clapped out cars in driveways with big signs on saying “not for sale” . So it’s ‘a thing’ that people do. Cast it from your mind! And I wouldn’t not order pizza from a company that also sells blinds, that’s nuts. I mean don’t order again if you didn’t like it but not because they also have a business selling blinds!

FlissyPaps · 06/07/2022 13:07

It’s not strange at all OP.

In life, if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Some people are just more upfront about things. He saw a car, he liked it, he asked if it was for sale. No big deal at all.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 06/07/2022 13:09

Very odd to get freaked out about this. He was just asking. We have a lovely sporty car - very nice to look at shiny red and appeals to young people (under 30) and weirdly people aged 70+. The lad across the road (aged 22 lives with his mum) said 'whenever you wanna sell your car, give me first refusal.' Grin He loves it. We're flattered! Not freaked!

Bubblebubblebah · 06/07/2022 13:14

If pizza is shite, don't order again. Really that simple. No need for million dramatics around it😐
Btw MANY people have different businesses or at least hand in them as partners.... Welcome to 2022 when shoe maker doesn't have to just stick to shoes

Fushiadreams · 06/07/2022 13:15

Really? You’ve taken umbridge someone wanted to buy a car and think if someone makes pizza they can’t run any other business?

🤣

PinkStarAtNight · 06/07/2022 13:15

It's a very old car. Still looks OK - clean, no scratches etc - but its not modern at all and quite small. I can't see why someone would want to buy it, apart from to sell it for parts, or if they were desperate for a car and couldn't afford to spend much and assumed it would be cheap as its old. I also can't work out what made him think it might be for sale. I found it insulting some how.

Anyway, judging by the comments I'm clearly being weird about this so I'll let it go!

LittleSockOfHorrors · 06/07/2022 13:18

Delivering pizza isn't a profession.

It's a good idea not to order pizza from there again if you didn't like the pizza. Confused

kellj · 06/07/2022 13:20

I think you're over thinking it. I do this too and I get why you might find this interaction odd.

At the end of the day if you don't feel comfortable with them then you shouldn't feel bad for using a different takeaway.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/07/2022 13:22

I get stopped a lot to ask of I'm interested in selling the car, I thought I was being chatted up but dh says it's sought after now , I thought it was just an old banger🙄😂

Bubblebubblebah · 06/07/2022 13:22

It actually sounds like a good one for deliveries if it's a small engine.... So not such a big mystery and it's very, very much not insulting😂 Blimey

BritWifeInUSA · 06/07/2022 13:23

Companies are only supposed to sell one type of product? Better let Richard Branson know…

JuneJustRains · 06/07/2022 13:23

Ha, our (parcel) delivery guy asked if he could buy my son's horrible little car last week. I think there's just a shortage of Affordable Banger at the moment.
