...to feel roleplay is fairly normal?

DH and I have been together 15 years, our sex life eventually fell into a lull but about 6 months ago we started role-playing and since then it's been like it was when we first got together. We're totally 'caught up' in each other all over again and our relationship has never been better.

However a couple of nights ago I was talking to two good friends and the topic of role play came up... I never even hinted that this has recently rejuvenated my life but the general response within the conversation was my friends both laughing/mocking it. One even said it's only for 'deviants and weirdos'.

AIBU to say it's actually way more 'normal' and regular? Or am I unknowingly a sexual deviant? 😂

(And yes, I have name-changed for this!)

It's all about personal preference isn't it! I'm terrible at acting so it isn't for me..I'd just end up laughing 😅

ThickCutSteakChips · 26/06/2022 21:50

I think it's a bit weird, but I guess I am very 'vanilla' when it comes to sex, I tend to stick with what I know! Grin

ThickCutSteakChips · 26/06/2022 21:51

Yeah, I don't think I could take it seriously.

Topgub · 26/06/2022 21:53

Depends on the role play I suppose

I think I'd struggle to take it seriously but I don't think ots for weirdos

Rantypanties · 26/06/2022 21:55

I’m fairly open minded but role play has never appealed to me, I couldn’t take it seriously enough! What kind of roles do you take on!?!

ThickCutSteakChips · 26/06/2022 21:56

Yes, what kind of role play was it? <nosey>

Honaloulou · 26/06/2022 21:57

I'd struggle not to laugh. But whatever floats your boat!

Useranon1 · 26/06/2022 21:57

Good lord no, it's pretty mainstream when you think about it, depending on what roles you're playing of course!

It's not like you're talking about shibari or soemthing

VladmirsPoutine · 26/06/2022 21:59

I'd cringe so much I'd turn inside out but if it works for you both great!

HSKAT · 26/06/2022 21:59

I personally couldn't tbf, I couldn't take it seriously.

What kind is it you do?

AnneLovesGilbert · 26/06/2022 21:59

All I can think of is Claire and Phil Dumphy, sorry.

But glad it’s working for you.

Smartiepants79 · 26/06/2022 22:00

Don’t think it’s that unusual but it would make me utterly cringe. No way could I keep it up enough to actually get turned on by it!
I’ve only ever been interested in sex with people I know and trust so I think role playing sex with strangers wouldn’t work for me!!

gabagoulghost · 26/06/2022 22:00

I'm think of Peter Griffin and Lois dressing up as Grimace.

ekinsu · 26/06/2022 22:02

cringe

Crinkler · 26/06/2022 22:02

Well, trying not to be too specific but... there's a tv show we both love, he plays one character, I play the other.

We don't do huge, long acting scenes though, we don't do a half hour of Corrie to get into it or anything 😂

ManateeFair · 26/06/2022 22:03

I suppose it depends on what you’re role-playing as. If you’re role-playing as Hitler and Eva Braun, or a farmer and a sheep, or Jacob Rees-Mogg and his nanny, that would be pretty weird. But role-play itself is totally normal. It’s not my thing personally but loads of people do it and it’s odd that anyone would find it shocking.

HoobleDooble · 26/06/2022 22:03

I thought it was only Sally and Tim from Coronation Street who did this!

TheWelshposter · 26/06/2022 22:04

It makes me think of Pam and Mick from Gavin and Stacey and their Charles/Camilla thing. "It's always been you....Camilla".
I couldn't do it without laughing.

ilovelurchers · 26/06/2022 22:04

I fucking love it! I am a "weirdo and deviant" tho, proud to be.

To be honest, it's not a particularly extreme fetish (depending on the roleplay content of course) but perhaps more unusual than we might think - I have had quite a lot of partners and DH is the only one I have found who would do it! (Met him in my early 40s). And can't remember any friends claiming to like it.

You have to have a bit of a sense of humour, and of the theatrical I think.....

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 26/06/2022 22:08

Me and DH will occasionally, just an extension of dirty talk really! Don't think you're deviant at all and frankly as long as it's all consensual don't let anyone yuck your yum. I'm just trying to guess the TV show now though, my starter for ten - Game of Thrones??

ReneBumsWombats · 26/06/2022 22:10

One even said it's only for 'deviants and weirdos'.

And why is that a bad thing?

HoldingTheDoor · 26/06/2022 22:11

Each to their own but I'd feel like I was on a team building exercise and my ovaries would probably shrivel up with embarrassment.

rainbowandglitter · 26/06/2022 22:12

No definitely not for us. I cringe thinking about it.

HSKAT · 26/06/2022 22:14

Corrie comment made me laugh!

You have to tell us the program!!
