To hate summer and be counting the days until it’s over…?!?

NellesVilla · 22/06/2022 10:54

I hate summer. I absolutely hate it with a passion.

I loathe:-

  • being hot (this makes me very unhappy and depressed)

  • having a back as sweaty as a dripping cucumber (no cool as a cucumber here)

  • suffering in a baking hot car in traffic

  • having to hide in house most of time I’m not working

  • allergies and hay fever letting rip

  • headaches and feeling shit and furious all the time

  • getting bitten by fucking mozzies all the time

  • my poor little dog suffering and having to stay in the shade for 90% of the day

How do people cop in properly hot countries? I wouldn’t last a minute. I remember going to Malaysia as a teen and getting off the plane and thinking “what the hell have I just done?”, and I was slimmer and healthier then.

Disclaimer: I am currently incredibly overweight and wear black all the time (asd) but I just don’t know what to do with myself and am trying to pretend it’s not warm out there. I don’t know what I’ll do when it gets even warmer, especially as I’m still waiting for last winter to arrive!

Please be kind and constructive: I know others like the heat (thank fuck someone does!!), but I despise it, and although I’m fat, I’m working on that!!

Also, can’t stand hearing people and kids shrieking until late every night. I know this is my issue being asd, but it is unbearable for me and I have to wear headphones with white noise to block it out.

It will be the same threads in the winter.

I love summer and wish it was permanently Summer.

VainAbigail · 22/06/2022 10:59

AC in the car and a moveable AC machine in your house. Ours has a pipe that goes out the window. Makes your living and travelling space a bit more comfortable.

supertedlasso · 22/06/2022 11:01

I'm with you OP.

NellesVilla · 22/06/2022 11:07

I love winter!!

Tbf, I’m in a very old house that is freezing in winter (bliss) and cool in summer but just don’t want to leave on this heat unless I really have to, like work!!

Unfortunately the heat isn't for everyone and you're allowed to feel how you feel. Many of us love the summer and hot weather but plenty of others don't and that's absolutely fine. I like all seasons for many different reasons! I'm making the most of the heat and sun as it'll be gone before we know it and it's lovely for the children to enjoy playing in the garden for a few hours after school. Have you got a fan to help keep you cool when you're at home? Make sure you're drinking plenty of water too, with ice in if you have some. Have you been taking antihistamines? If you have but your hayfever is still bad then you can get things like a nasal spray from your GP which may help. Aircon in the car is perfect for this weather to keep you cool and no need to open windows, do you not have aircon? It is tough for dogs in this heat, especially as they can only be walked early in the morning or later at night when it's cooled down and the hot pavements won't hurt their paws. Sorry i can't be more helpful.

SylviasMotherSaid · 22/06/2022 11:08

I don’t mind summer if I can go a holiday but haven’t been able to go once since 2018 and feels like a never ending cycle of working trying to keep the dog cool being too hot to sleep and i will be glad when it’s over this year

Me too, I love Summer.

Prettybubblesintheair · 22/06/2022 11:11

I’m with you op! I hate anything above 24. Up to that I can tolerate it but when it gets to 30 and above I absolutely hate it. We live in an over insulated house and our tv heats up like a radiator so can’t even delve into Netflix to distract myself from the heat! I love winter and dark nights but I don’t begrudge those who long for heat and sun. We’re all different! I’m also fat but hated heat just as much when I was a size 6! I’m working on it too, 2 stone down 5 to go!

DSGR · 22/06/2022 11:12

I adore it and would love more summer!! But I don’t have your asd or a dog. You are entitled to feel how you feel but maybe losing weight would make you feel better next summer? It sounds like that makes you unhappy.
I lost a lot of weight in the last year and being slim in summer is lovely. I can finally buy dresses and look nice

Prettybubblesintheair · 22/06/2022 11:13

Oh and we also have a husky who is utterly stupid and I keep catching him sunbathing! He’ll be laying there in 30 degree sunshine, panting away absolutely intent on baking himself! I’m constantly having to move him into the shade.

Mumoblue · 22/06/2022 11:15

YANBU. I hate hot weather.
It sets of my eczema terribly, so I spend the whole time hot, itchy and miserable.

I enjoy pretty much any weather except heat. The only good thing about summer is the occasional summer thunderstorm, but we haven’t had any decent ones recently.

Alsonification · 22/06/2022 11:17

I hate hate hate the summer. All it’s good for is getting the clothes dry haha. I’m a sweaty Betty at the best of times but obviously summer I’m really bad. Plus I’m menopausal. The heat makes me cranky and I feel grubby all the time. I hate the clothes cos I never look good in them. I don’t sleep. I go to bed when it’s still bright outside which I hate.
Autumn & Winter for me is cosy jumpers, cosy fires, lovely cool weather, staying inside when it’s lashing/snowing outside. Listening to the wind howling around the house. I love it.

Phrenologistsfinger · 22/06/2022 11:18

I wish it was Spring/Summer all the time! Winter and cold makes me tired and so very low.

Livpool · 22/06/2022 11:19

I agree with this

I get SAD and hay fever February to May from tree pollen so all the opposite

NellesVilla · 22/06/2022 11:24

Thanks @Howabsolutelyfanfuckingtastic , I think I mainly worry about my dog as she gets scarily hot and tired!

oddoneoutalways · 22/06/2022 11:24

Yep. Also an autistic adult so I feel your pain. Loathe summer with a passion. Too hot, too bright, i have to wear clothes that I'm not comfortable in, I sleep even worse than usual (I also have ADHD and my sleep is dreadful). Increased expectations of socialisation that I don't want/enjoy. Being called miserable for not enjoying it.

Yup. You'd be miserable if you had to spend weeks in constant sensory overload whilst being badgered to 'get out, see people and HABE FUN' all the time whilst still trying to carry on with your day to day commitments too!

HailAdrian · 22/06/2022 11:25

I hate the cold and I think I would really enjoy summer if I didn't have to work but hot weather makes me feel sleepy and for some reason, puts me right on edge.

oddoneoutalways · 22/06/2022 11:28

NellesVilla · 22/06/2022 10:57

Also, can’t stand hearing people and kids shrieking until late every night. I know this is my issue being asd, but it is unbearable for me and I have to wear headphones with white noise to block it out.

Also this, other people's noise that I have no control to stop bothers me massively anyway (which is definitely an autism and noise sensitivity thing) and summer is the season of garden parties and bbqs. So even when you can lie quietly in bed, if you have your windows open - which is needed- you're treated to other people's loud music, shrieking, stinking fire pits and general crapness.

Might just be me having inconsiderate neighbours generally though. And yes before any asks, I will be moving!

kittenkipping · 22/06/2022 11:37

I'm with you op! And I hate that it's so offensive to people who like summer?! Why do they get so defensive? What's that about? I know so many people who moan and grump about bad weather 80% of the year, (the weather I like- cold, fog, ice, rain, anything BUT hot basically) they go on and on "can't wait for summer" " I've had enough of this bloody rain" "x is nice, but shame about the weather" etc, but god forbid anyone who does the same when it's sunny!

I hide. Sometimes I forget how much I hate it and go out, to the beach or park, to "make the most" of the "good" weather. I quickly regret it. I get headaches, sweat, irrational and itchy . Yuk. Thankfully it doesn't last long though.

SpiceRat · 22/06/2022 11:42

My hayfever alone is reason enough why I hate summer. I don’t think those who suffer with it understand how utterly debilitating it is. I’m knackard all the time from not being able to breathe properly and feel weak and dizzy, my eyes are constantly itchy and feel like I’ve rubbed sand in them. My nose is red raw from blowing it and it constantly runs.

Then, my sweaty head. I don’t sweat from anywhere else other than my head and in this heat I look like I’ve just stepped out of the shower, my hair is soaking all the time, I’m dripping just walking around. And the judgement looks. Fucking hell, it’s utterly humiliating and I just avoid leaving the house as much as possible as people are fucking horrible about something I can’t control.

At least in winter I can walk down the street without people mumbling about me or without almost passing out because I can’t breathe.

Mind you, this winter I won’t be able to afford heating so actually this year I’m not wishing away the sun too much.

Junipercrumble · 22/06/2022 11:45

DD has autism and I suspect I do too.
I do like summer but I dont enjoy the endless BBQ's, smelling greasy food in my garden does irritate me, as does when my neighbours eat al fresco with the constant scraping of cutlery on crockery.
What is the attraction?
It's difficult enough to keep flies and midges out of your house, why would you put a spread on for them just yards from your house? 😳
The screaming and shouting, late night loud gatherings that go on for too long, the mozzies, and just feeling lethargic, sweaty and itchy.
Having said all of that, I always feel happy when I wake up to the sunshine streaming into the windows 😃

DoubleGauze · 22/06/2022 11:45

I struggle to cope too op. My son is autistic and won't sleep until its dark , then he wakes for the day as soon as its light. Heat is a trigger for my migraines and we live in a flat with no garden that is impossible to cool in this weather.

I hope you manage to have a good day op , it can be hard in the summer.

NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor · 22/06/2022 11:47

And I hate that it's so offensive to people who like summer?! Why do they get so defensive?
I never understand this either.

I hate rain is acceptable but I hate sun is like you’re murdering a puppy. I’m not sure why people don’t let others have opinions on this.

bloodyplanes · 22/06/2022 11:51

I love summer but i also love proper winter ( snow, frost etc). My son has asd and cannot bare being to hot, it makes him feel sick and ill. Summer costs me a fortune in electricity because he constantly has two fans going in his bedroom.
