To hate summer and be counting the days until it’s over…?!?

NellesVilla · 22/06/2022 10:54

I hate summer. I absolutely hate it with a passion.

I loathe:-

  • being hot (this makes me very unhappy and depressed)

  • having a back as sweaty as a dripping cucumber (no cool as a cucumber here)

  • suffering in a baking hot car in traffic

  • having to hide in house most of time I’m not working

  • allergies and hay fever letting rip

  • headaches and feeling shit and furious all the time

  • getting bitten by fucking mozzies all the time

  • my poor little dog suffering and having to stay in the shade for 90% of the day

How do people cop in properly hot countries? I wouldn’t last a minute. I remember going to Malaysia as a teen and getting off the plane and thinking “what the hell have I just done?”, and I was slimmer and healthier then.

Disclaimer: I am currently incredibly overweight and wear black all the time (asd) but I just don’t know what to do with myself and am trying to pretend it’s not warm out there. I don’t know what I’ll do when it gets even warmer, especially as I’m still waiting for last winter to arrive!

Please be kind and constructive: I know others like the heat (thank fuck someone does!!), but I despise it, and although I’m fat, I’m working on that!!

@NonagonInfinityOpensTheDoor lol yes. I remember my colleagues looking at me like I was crazy for being relieved when the temperature was back down to below 20. For me though , it means I can get back to a reasonable level of activity without having a headache and that I can settle my son to sleep at a decent hour. Essential things imo.

indoorplantqueen · 22/06/2022 12:03

If I had hay fever I think I'd hate summer too. I love all the seasons for different reasons. The part of uk I live we don't get it 'hot' but when I lived in SE I loved the hot summers we got.

Peoplepissmeoff · 22/06/2022 12:07

I'm the same, hate the summer months. May to September are my least favourite months and I really look forward to autumn and winter. I think one of the things I hate the most is how the good weather seems to bring out selfish and inconsiderate behaviour. I don't want to hear other people's music full blast in the garden or to listen to children squealing until all hours. I'm overweight so feel uncomfortable in summer clothes so usually end up sweating and avoiding going places. Everywhere is busy when the sun is out and I hate it!

maddiemookins16mum · 22/06/2022 12:12

Yabu, we get a few months of decent weather and before long it will be those gloomy, grey, cold, wet days that last from October until March mostly.
I get that we sometimes have some really uncomfortable days (last Friday was grim), but really our summers are nothing like Greece or Spain for instance.

NoMoneyHun · 22/06/2022 12:12

I am the same. I also don't understand the absolute distain people have towards anyone who dislikes summer. I struggle in the heat. I have IIH, the pressure in my head seems to get worse with the heat so it's obviously a worse time for me. I live in a very rough street so we have feral children (and yes they are FERAL) out from half 7 until about half 11 screaming and swearing. Then of course their parents start drinking with a hint of sun in the sky.... I could go on but I won't.

Yeah I agree OP. Its certainly not for everyone.

etulosba · 22/06/2022 12:14

I can’t really add anything constructive. I think you are born with a tolerance to warm temperatures or you aren’t. My father and I were, my sister and mother weren’t.

Ideally, I would split my time between the UK and Australia 50/50, maximising time spent in the warm months.

Zoeslatesttrope · 22/06/2022 12:27

Fellow autistic. So much this. Sensory torment with light, heat, sweat and non tight clothes.
I have reverse SAD

Hallyup89 · 22/06/2022 12:36

When it's winter I'm going to start a thread every day complaining how fucking awful it is. I hate winter, I hate being cold, I hate my skin being permanently dry and cracking, I hate dark nights because they give me derealisation symptoms and my mental health is crap at that time of year.

Here we've had 3 days, I'll repeat that, 3 DAYS!!! of warmer weather this year. Some of us thrive in summer and would like to enjoy the few days we actually have without some moaning sourpuss being negative about it.

So your mental health is more valid than ours who are suffering now?

Zoeslatesttrope · 22/06/2022 12:47

I self harm and get suicidal in summer but that doesn't count?

Yodaisawally · 22/06/2022 12:50

@Hallyup89 you could have just not opened the thread. Simple.

Caspianberg · 22/06/2022 12:52

You can still hate summer, but if it helps there are some things to try and reduce symptoms:

  • dress in light colours. Cotton or linen if possible
  • go to pharmacy and talk about hay fever options and decent mozzie repellent. Might help with both.
  • longer term- look at various shade options for garden for you and dog.
HannahSternDefoe · 22/06/2022 12:52

10 weeks tomorrow, it's September.
😍

Rude and ignorant response. Wow. And they say autistics lack empathy Wink

Lots of us on this thread have a recognised disability - and yes that's exactly what it is - that means for us, summer is utter torment.

The heat, light, noise etc have a significant impact, way over and above mild irritation and annoyance, on our day to day lives and activities to the point where it's disabling.

So we can moan about it as much as we want, thanks,

From a moaning, but not ableist and unpleasant, sourpuss.

TinaBurner432 · 22/06/2022 12:58

@NellesVilla I'm with you. I definitely prefer Winter and for me it's nothing to do with weight if I'm honest but I still can't stand feeling over heated, sweaty and the hayfever is awful. I get hives on my legs every Summer. Also I am super pale and feel like I have to smother myself in fake tan just to look human.
I just love the dark nights and snuggly jumpers. My partner says I'm a vampire which I take as a compliment lol

Theoldwoman · 22/06/2022 13:00

I live in Australia and summer days can be anything upto 45 degrees Celsius and nights can be upto 25 degrees Celsius. Luckily no DLS, the sun out any longer would be torture.

I loathe it.

we have roller shutters, air conditioning. Don’t go out between 9-4 unless need to.

It’s winter here now, the days are about 20 degrees and the nights around 7 degrees. Perfect.

Utilityroomenvy · 22/06/2022 13:19

I’m with you OP. Hayfever alone makes me wish the Summer months away. I’m in constant sinus pain, have to take a variety of pills and sprays to try and keep it at bay but it barely makes a difference. And not being able to open windows because of the pollen means the house is unbearably stuffy. Everyone else is out bbq’ing (which I love when the hayfever season isn’t rife) and I am stuck indoors looking like a puffy-eyed red-nosed miserable grumpy mess. I hate it. And I hate that we aren’t allowed to hate it!! “Oh it’s lovely weather just come for one drink at the pub”. Fuck off 😂

MrsMikeWazowski · 22/06/2022 13:46

I like the extra daylight but not the heat, I get so sweaty 😭 (always have, despite always being a size 6. Odaban is my friend). Cool or cold bright days are my favourite!

xogossipgirlxo · 22/06/2022 14:01

I like summer, but I feel very resentful when I have to work on hot days and then we have weekend of rain.

SirenSays · 22/06/2022 14:04

We have like three days of sun. It will be back to grey skies and pissing rain in no time.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 22/06/2022 14:20

I totally agree op. I struggle with the heat
I have a disability and my joints swell and muscles cramp, add into that dizziness and fatigue.. I've just come back from the shop and I'm sweating profusely from my head which is embarrassing!
Windows open means more noise, so I do use a fan( limited due to cost now)
I try to pace myself drink water. I completely lose appetite too, so that helps my food budget
A friend has a USB neck fan, which is apparently very good

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 22/06/2022 14:23

Och I’m with you OP. I’m a hot mess in summer and look like (and feel like) a boiled plum.

Not helped by being back end of menopausal and a heifer. I also hate mornings but getting up at 0430 to walk the dog before work in a decent temperature is necessary.

For me there is one bit I like. There is something quite lovely walking late at night on a summer evening - bats flapping about, beautiful clear skies to see the moon and stars. And it isn’t so warm.

Roll on September!

Suddha · 22/06/2022 14:28

YANBU. It’s too hot and bright. And I hate watering the garden every day. I only have to water in summer, it’s annoying.

PurpleButterflyWings · 22/06/2022 14:39

Oh FGS not ANOTHER one. Must be the 5th thread in the past 2 weeks where the OP says they 'hate summer.' 🙄

Move to bloody Svalbard then. 😐

balalake · 22/06/2022 14:44

I am not with you on this, other than sympathy for any hay fever or other allergy. None for the baking hot car especially if you could walk or make fewer journeys.
