Hi All.
Quick question..is anyone sat outside today in this glorious weather actually enjoying themselves? It is purgatory here! I started by sitting in my garden, kids at school complete peace and quiet with a cuppa and a book delirously content and happily minding my own business then all hell breaks loose. Next door get out the hedge trimmer and lawn mower.Marvelous,Then next door the other way decide to strim their garden. Those behind us have a tree surgeon in and omg I swear my ears could bleed,There is a radio playing loudly somewhere and I give in. I had 20 mins and 5 hrs later its all still going on, In a dramatic turn I slammed my door went inside and threw a tantrum with myself! Add to this joyous morning himself who is on the last 12 hr night shift of a 60 hr week was woken up with little sleep and has a gob on him like no ones business but to be fair I cannot blame him. If you are enjoying your garden today cos I am not I hope you are enjoying it!!! Aibu to just want a rant?

You can't demand silence from other people.
Maybe get some headphones?

KangarooKenny · 17/06/2022 13:48

No, I’m hiding in my house in the shade/cool.

Mally100 · 17/06/2022 13:51

Maybe they are getting it done ahead of weekend garden parties or plans? It's annoying but that's life.

junglejane66 · 17/06/2022 13:54

I'm happy, just mowed and strimmed the lawn and am now enjoying listening to some music, lovely

PetersRabbitt · 17/06/2022 13:54

It’s life. Silence is a luxury afforded by the rich in their detached houses in the middle of fields.

The rest of us have to put up with it, it’s life

ZeroFuchsGiven · 17/06/2022 13:54

If You want silence You need to move to the middle of nowhere Hmm

Gruffling · 17/06/2022 14:02

I think it's sad that the simple pleasure of enjoying sitting in the garden reading a book in relative quiet is out of reach for lots of us.

As someone else has said the only way to guarantee this is to be rich enough to afford a detached house with no neighbours close by.

Using a radio outside is especially antisocial, it's so easy to use headphones.

creamwitheverything · 17/06/2022 14:02

You are , of course all right I know this just feeling sorry for myself! I do know how unreasonable I am , I do actually like and get on with my neighbours its a lovely street we live on and its really friendly. Its just me being grumpy today cos I can;t have my own way!

My neighbour listens to audio books for hours, I wish he would get headphones.
The people behind often have the radio on which is no where near as bad

ofwarren · 17/06/2022 14:06

I actually just posted something similar in Chat.

I struggle with this every year but like others say, it's only the rich who can enjoy the peace and quiet in summer.
I need a lottery win.

BlueKaftan · 17/06/2022 14:10

On any given evening we can hear the children singing at the Baptist chapel, someone practicing the violin, tree trimming, building works, a crying infant. But it’s the magpies clicking and screeching that really annoy me. 😳

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 17/06/2022 14:12

I hear you! Our local Facebook page already has a post asking people to not complain when children do the following even if not in the seclusions of their own parents garden - water fights, chalk painting, playing ball games in the main road (one side residential one side industrial units) children shouting across gardens, climbing on fences, playing knock and run, playing hide and seek in other peoples alleyways (terraced street), throwing balls over into other peoples gardens. - the list goes on, because we were all young once…..

It could be a long long summer here. My Dh works nights, and I’m seriously considering working two jobs as he is going to be Mr Grumpy. And yes, I’ve invested in some excellent noise cancelling ear buds.

Startuplife · 17/06/2022 14:14

Yep our neighbours have been having a blazing row for the last 2 hours. I wouldn’t usually mind but it’s a weekly occurrence.

My boss very kindly gave us the afternoon off and I was planning on sunbathing with a book but I might just go to Aldi instead.

luxxlisbon · 17/06/2022 14:14

People out looking after their gardens and cutting their grass/trimming hedges really doesn’t bother me and I wouldn’t go inside having a tantrum because other people are outside.

I'm weird in that I quite like the sound of lawns being mowed, people strimming etc. Dislike hearing people and their music though

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 17/06/2022 14:18

It's just one of those things really isn't it. Your neighbours are annoying you today and you might do something to annoy them tomorrow.

I get annoyed when my neighbours have hot tub parties late into the night but I'm under no illusions that they will not be equally annoyed when my DC are bouncing on their trampoline or playing basketball or throwing the ball for Ddog who then gets excited and barks.

We are all just living our lives and as long as no one is being properly anti-social we just have to get on with it.

knightsinwhitesatin · 17/06/2022 14:21

that is annoying OP, but I would really love a garden, even a noisy one. Stuck in with toddler, baby and dog, too hot to go anywhere but would be lovely to have a splash in a shady paddling pool. Such is life.

MoniJitchell · 17/06/2022 14:22

Pissing it down where I am, so no need to worry 😑

Threebutterflies · 17/06/2022 14:22

@creamwitheverything
lol your post made me laugh. Who on earth would be out in this weather mowing and strimming! I’d pass out! My neighbour has her music on I’m quite enjoying it though as sometimes it’s too quiet!

Laiste · 17/06/2022 14:28

YANBU.

I said this the other day to DD (adult) while we were in the garden. We have no very close neighbours and you'd think it would be peaceful. However - whenever the sun comes out so do all the power tools and the sound carries a long way. 2 of my closest neighbours have bloody great ride on mowers and both seem to mow and re-mow the grass for blinking hours Hmm Sometimes i think they've nodded off on them and the machines are just trundling round on their own accord.

It takes 3/4 days of good weather for everyone round here to have their fill of chopping at the vegetation and shut up!

Laiste · 17/06/2022 14:28

One of them's just started up out there now!

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/06/2022 14:31

Earplugs

OhmygodDont · 17/06/2022 14:32

I’m working from home in the dark as I’ve opened all the windows and French doors and shut the curtains. Although I did have a chat with the neighbour this morning when doing the rubbish. It wasn’t too warm then and ended up out there for around an hour.

got to pick the children up soon and I’m going to guess they will want to get in the pool though.

quicklybeendrivenmad · 17/06/2022 14:32

Blissfully quiet here sat in the garden with my kindle, DH snoozing, having a bbq for tea

LoveLarry · 17/06/2022 14:33
