Hi All.
Quick question..is anyone sat outside today in this glorious weather actually enjoying themselves? It is purgatory here! I started by sitting in my garden, kids at school complete peace and quiet with a cuppa and a book delirously content and happily minding my own business then all hell breaks loose. Next door get out the hedge trimmer and lawn mower.Marvelous,Then next door the other way decide to strim their garden. Those behind us have a tree surgeon in and omg I swear my ears could bleed,There is a radio playing loudly somewhere and I give in. I had 20 mins and 5 hrs later its all still going on, In a dramatic turn I slammed my door went inside and threw a tantrum with myself! Add to this joyous morning himself who is on the last 12 hr night shift of a 60 hr week was woken up with little sleep and has a gob on him like no ones business but to be fair I cannot blame him. If you are enjoying your garden today cos I am not I hope you are enjoying it!!! Aibu to just want a rant?

For those of you wishing you lived in an isolated spot with no near neighbours, I can assure you it's noisy here too. With this sunny weather and rain forecast tomorrow it's the ideal time to get out the tractor and mow the meadows.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 17/06/2022 14:34

YABU - People can mow their lawns during the day if they wish.

I'm weird in that I quite like the sound of lawns being mowed, people strimming etc

Me too! I love hearing lawnmowers and the like. Makes it feel so summery.

transformandriseup · 17/06/2022 14:39

Even in our quiet village there is rarely silence as everyone has something going on.

Spanielsarepainless · 17/06/2022 14:40

Same here. Went to sit outside for mid-morning cuppa. Immediately a team of garden contractors turned up in the neighbouring green space and have spent five hours STRIMMING several acres. Had to come in and shut the windows. Now they are shouting at each other, as they don't all wear the proper safety gear and half are deaf as a result. It looked lovely with some long grass, buttercups, daisies. It used to be a couple of blokes with two mowers which took two hours and wasn't as noisy. This lot look like slave labour.

mizzo · 17/06/2022 14:43

I'd rather have neighbours who care for their homes and gardens than ones who don't give a shit and let them become eyesores like where we lived previously.
Although the most annoying noise for me is dog noise which seems to happen universally.

pushingpoppies · 17/06/2022 14:45

It's as lovely and quiet ever here (on weekdays only! weekends are a different matter) but come half three, the schoolkids and trampolining will start, but even that isn't too bad. I am very lucky to have considerate neighbours who rarely play music, which is my massive bugbear!

The sound i love in summer is that gentle droning of little planes meandering across the sky.

We have one which practices it's loop-the-loops over the fields near us and i love the sound. It only seems to arrive on the hottest days.

WhatsHoppening · 17/06/2022 14:45

Ah OP that’s rubbish! We are in a city suburb so unless really offensive i can tune out neighbour noise/roads etc fairly well! We have a north facing garden so days like today when it’s actually so warm and sunny make some happy but there’s still shade to escape to! So I’m enjoying myself, hope they stop with the noise soon for you.

pushingpoppies · 17/06/2022 14:47

And I live in a perfectly normal residential area, semis and terraces, but very, very lucky :)

boxaround · 17/06/2022 14:48

Too hot to sit outside 😂

We have a teeny tiny garden which is great in really sunny weather because it's easy to shade it - huge gazebo and that's most of it covered! I'm lying back on a camping chair with my feet in DC's paddling pool and there are definitely worse ways to spend an afternoon.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/06/2022 14:53

I'd rather those noises than the yappy bastard dachshund that visits next door. The stupid thing doesn't shut up and doesn't seem to be told to be quiet either. The neighbours and their friends are sitting out there with it as well! When we got a few minutes of blissful silence last night some idiot said to it 'you bark at everything don't you?'. Yes it does, train the fucking thing not to!

PussGirl · 17/06/2022 14:57

You can't hope for peace and quiet during working hours on a weekday I'm afraid.

We had some chainsaw cutting of logs to do the other week & saved it for a Wednesday (my day off) rather than annoy the neighbours at the weekend.

squashyhat · 17/06/2022 14:59

Yup. Sitting in the shade watching Queens tennis. There is an intermittent chain saw going next door as the new neighbour's 'gardener' clears the overgrown garden before she moves in but it's so intermittent I wonder if she realises quite how little work is being done 😁

Bonjovispjs · 17/06/2022 15:01

I wish I had a garden!

dottypotter · 17/06/2022 15:02

Loving it and you hardly need anything on. Makes you feel so much better too.

Sunshine and laughter the best medicine.

Staffy1 · 17/06/2022 15:09

No one around here is in their garden unless they are mad. It’s meltingly hot, so quite quiet out as I think everyone is inside with a fan.

BottlingBurpsForGrandma · 17/06/2022 15:09

We live on a busy road that most would turn their nose up at, but our garden at the back is lovely and peaceful. The road noise provides a kind of "white noise" backdrop. Our nearest nieghbours have chickens in the bit adjacent to our useable patch of lawn, so while the chickens themselves are noisy there's nothing to mow there. DC4 and I had a lovely morning out there with the paddling pool and two friends each!

Sounds lovely

MyNameIsAngelicaSchuyler · 17/06/2022 15:11

We live in a city but is super quiet! Just the birds singing and some kids playing at the primary school.

Léighméleabhair · 17/06/2022 15:12

I’m sat outside with the sunroom doors open and I can hear my washing machine on spin in the utility and the birds twittering about.

I can hear the odd car in the distance.

Otherwise, it’s lovely and quiet. I can’t stand other people’s noise so that’s the main reason we moved here and away from city living. Bliss.

Sarahlou677 · 17/06/2022 15:12

People are free to enjoy their gardens how they wish

FixitJesus · 17/06/2022 15:12

When else would you want people to do their lawns then?

It’s life. Silence is a luxury afforded by the rich in their detached houses in the middle of fields.

The rest of us have to put up with it, it’s life

I live in a detached house. I'm not rich and I still have to listen to my neighbours doing all the crap all the bloody time.
