Irresponsible text on homework

DD1 is in Year 1 and got a weird text for her homework.

The text is about a boy who wakes up in the middle of the night and sneaks into the kitchen to eat chocolate cake.

AIBU to think this is totally inappropriate and irresponsible?.... These kids are 5/6 years old, they don't need to be encouraged to have this kind of unhealthy and also deceitful behaviour (the boy complains the floor creaks and is going to wake up his parents).

It's a Michael Rosen poem and the mother gets upset with the boy in the morning when she finds out. However the excerpt in the homework doesn't include this last part.

It's quite a fun poem but for older children who know better..... and maybe not something to show at school....

im just wondering if you have ever read her a story or if she had any books? I can’t think of one of our story books which I’d want my DC to replicate or take behavioural inspiration from!

Jesus suffering fuck.

TortolaParadise · 16/06/2022 20:53

wow!

Sirzy · 16/06/2022 20:54

I remember the head teacher of my primary school reading it to us in assembly. It was much loved by all of us!

I had a TA once who took me to task about reading Little Rabbit Foo Foo to my class. She thought they might all start bopping animals on the head with a mallet.

Holy shit you read them a book about foofoo’s?

Testina · 16/06/2022 20:55

Jesus.

I remember Ds and his cousins going through a phase of reciting the book doing just that!

This thread has reminded me why I love MN

Bellyups · 16/06/2022 21:02

Oh give over 🙄

Barneysma2 · 16/06/2022 21:06

Hes sneaking to get a piece of cake, not a bag of cocaine 😑 having a piece of cake is not unhealthy btw making a child think it is more likely to cause eating issues in later life so stop being an arse, chill out, give your kid some cake and get a grip

Silverswirl · 16/06/2022 21:06

Omg chocolate cake is one of the best most funniest poems for kids.
You tube Michael Rosen reading it- kids love it.
Please do something for me. Screen shot your OP and then come back to it in 10 years. It will be the best laugh you ever had 🤣🤣🤣

TooManyPJs · 16/06/2022 21:08

Poor teacher.

Poor children

Lalosalamanca · 16/06/2022 21:12

Wondering how you get through life if this is actually an issue for you?!

Stinkywizzleteets · 16/06/2022 21:12

Rookie error having chocolate cake in the cupboard overnight. Any decent and normal mother would have consumed the lot as soon as said 5/6 year old was in bed. Poor show OP

CathyorClaire · 16/06/2022 21:14

Fucking hell.

I was brought up on The Pobble Who Has No Toes

Midnight chocolate cake is tame #well'ard Grin

She's presumably at a state school, OP? This wouldn't happen if you went private. [headtilt]

Oh yes it does... and you'll also get Don't Put Mustard in the Custard thrown in for the cost of your fees. No escape from the choccy cake by going independent OP.

If however you want some poetry with a nice set of morals you can always try a bit of Hiliare Belloc. I can highly recommend Matilda - your dd will never be tempted to tell a lie after reading this - its quite long so I've linked it below and just given a little quote.

Matilda

"For every time She shouted ‘Fire!’
They only answered ‘Little Liar’!
And therefore when her Aunt returned,
Matilda, and the House, were Burned".

itsgettingweird · 16/06/2022 21:15

Micheal Rosen is a legend.

You will also be a legend in the staff room if you complain.

You know the rest of the poem and can easily spend the time you'd complain to work with your dd on this.

I agree it'll be a long 12 years if your bar is this low 🤣🤣🤣🤣

stepuporshutup · 16/06/2022 21:15

The education secretary Nadhim is giving a strong statement about the inappropriate literature than year one pupils have thrusted on them that have traumatised a child and her mother.
Hopefully he will ban poem's about thieving little boys

Hiphophippityskip1 · 16/06/2022 21:16

Get a grip and get a life

Laurajane1987 · 16/06/2022 21:17

Wtf is with mumsnet today, Jesus

RaaRaaLaLaLa · 16/06/2022 21:18

It's not the schools fault that your dd hasn't been taught to 'know better'. They aren't bringing them up, that's your job.
