Irresponsible text on homework

DD1 is in Year 1 and got a weird text for her homework.

The text is about a boy who wakes up in the middle of the night and sneaks into the kitchen to eat chocolate cake.

AIBU to think this is totally inappropriate and irresponsible?.... These kids are 5/6 years old, they don't need to be encouraged to have this kind of unhealthy and also deceitful behaviour (the boy complains the floor creaks and is going to wake up his parents).

It's a Michael Rosen poem and the mother gets upset with the boy in the morning when she finds out. However the excerpt in the homework doesn't include this last part.

It's quite a fun poem but for older children who know better..... and maybe not something to show at school....

Oh dear

Goldencarp · 16/06/2022 22:26

Dear god 🙄

MakkaPakkas · 16/06/2022 22:26

Aaaahahahaha thank you OP I needed this 🤣🤣🤣

Oioicaptain · 16/06/2022 22:27

My children love that poem. Totally age appropriate. Michael Rosen reads it out himself on YouTube and it's done brilliantly.

This thread is full of fools. Chocolate cake is obviously symbolic of heroin. It’s how they get them involved into county lines.

Sounds more fun than a line of Calpol!

OP, chill. There are a million things in life that could negatively affect children. A poem about stealing chocolate cake is not one of them.

Toottooot · 16/06/2022 22:29

Outrageous - poor geets don’t need to be getting any crazy ideas into their wee heeds.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 16/06/2022 22:29

Going to go against the grain here and say that I agree with the op. I mean first OP's child will start sneaking about in the middle of the night for food... then what?

Straight to a crack den that's what!

😂😂😂😂😂

ManateeFair · 16/06/2022 22:30

Christ, I feel sorry for your daughter if this is the sort of thing she’s going to have to put up with from you.

You’re mad as a lorry. Get help.

WishILivedInThrushGreen · 16/06/2022 22:31

You might want to think about removing the cocoon from around your child.

scoopoftheday · 16/06/2022 22:32

My niece had a short story and in the last paragraph a dog died giving birth to puppies.

Part of her homework was to write 8 more sentences of the story.

She said the man went to the shed and got a defibrillator and brought the dog back to life and fed it puppy food and the dog had more puppies and told them all their names etc...

She's y4. And they've been learning about heart start 😊

It was called the faithful collie by James Hogg

HappyBinosaur · 16/06/2022 22:35

I’ve had a tough day and this has put a smile on my face!!
I hope it’s a joke but fear it isn’t!

Namechanger355 · 16/06/2022 22:36

You have made me laugh with your joke Op - thanks

Hallyup89 · 16/06/2022 22:37

I'm absolutely speechless...

saltinesandcoffeecups · 16/06/2022 22:44

Thank you OP, I’d never heard of this poem. (American). It’s cute!

As an American we were being read Shel Silverstein poems at that age. Now there’s some scary shit for the young ones. 😉

PatchworkElmer · 16/06/2022 22:45

… I genuinely don’t know what to say…

EmoIsntDead · 16/06/2022 22:47

Peak mumsnet.

that’s enough internet for me today.

Emilizz34 · 16/06/2022 22:49

If you’re getting excited about this then It’s going to be a very long 12/13 years until your dc finishes school .
Have a feeling that you’re one of those parents.
You will experience lots of v controversial issues during your dcs school years . Save your outrage for those

I'm a teacher... And I'm sat in my car utterly dumbstruck.

Five year olds love this sort of thing, it's the type of thing that helps develop one of the most important parts of education - a love of literature.

Give your child some credit - 5 is not a baby. They know Bing isn't real, they know pigs don't talk, and they know this is just for fun.

Unclench! Your waaaay off base.

I agree 100%, @Azandme .

@grey12 - I honestly think you are overthinking this - I wouldn’t worry, if I were you.

Tessabelle74 · 16/06/2022 22:50

This is a wind up surely? 🙄

ladydimitrescu · 16/06/2022 22:51

You absolute nutter 😂😂😂

BusyMum47 · 16/06/2022 22:52

Seriously?? Get a grip! It's a Michael Rosen classic. Just a bit of fun. Christ, you'd better buckle in for a rough ride if you think this is complain to the school stuff! 🤣
