Irresponsible text on homework

DD1 is in Year 1 and got a weird text for her homework.

The text is about a boy who wakes up in the middle of the night and sneaks into the kitchen to eat chocolate cake.

AIBU to think this is totally inappropriate and irresponsible?.... These kids are 5/6 years old, they don't need to be encouraged to have this kind of unhealthy and also deceitful behaviour (the boy complains the floor creaks and is going to wake up his parents).

It's a Michael Rosen poem and the mother gets upset with the boy in the morning when she finds out. However the excerpt in the homework doesn't include this last part.

It's quite a fun poem but for older children who know better..... and maybe not something to show at school....

I think you need to withdraw your child from the education system if you are getting worked up about a poem mate.

😂

Also Winnie the Pooh - his name sounds like fecal matter and he overdoes the honey.

Paddington also an illegal immigrant scrounging of the Brown family.

As for Pooh bear, yes he is dangerous, lots of children have experimented with 'pooh sticks' so maybe the OP should worry.

OP

I suggest you bulk order grips, also practice your 'sad face' for the local paper. I bet this thread will be in a tabloid by the end of the day.

Sounds totally scandalous, I would speak to the Chair of Governors about it. 😂

ThinkForAMinute · 17/06/2022 05:50

Given your reaction to Michael Rosen I’d probably wait a few years before introducing John Cooper Clark.

Iguessyourestuckwithme · 17/06/2022 06:28

I let my preschoolers 3 and 4 watch Michael Roseneath retelling the story and just their giggles were enough to change a tricky day.

Goading again, do you get paid for it?

Is this a repeat offender?

Soooonotoverit · 17/06/2022 07:27

OP has complained about school books before @Bluueberrryy

BeeDavis · 17/06/2022 07:35

When I was in school I read a series of books called “The Naughtiest Girl In The School” and funnily enough, I wasn’t actually naughty!!!! 😩

Gonna be a looong 12 years.

Haha this

saraclara · 17/06/2022 08:23

Ah. I found your other thread @grey12 , and again, you are talking something imaginative completely literally. Something that was a fun thought that no child would actually do, because a) they couldn't if they tried and b) they'd understand what you didn't. That this was just a thing to imagine...A kind of thought experiment.

I suspect that you have a very literal mind and struggle with imagination. But almost every successful child's book is about stimulating imagination and enjoying the ridiculous. They're mind expanding as well as bringing joy.

It may be that you're wired differently and don't enjoy that kind of imaginative ridiculousness, and now I've seen your other thread I kind of hope people will stop mocking you. But please understand that these books and the hundreds like them will not make your child naughty, and let your kid enjoy them. And definitely don't complain to the teacher.

Another vote for the “Get a Grip” pile here!

Michael Rosen is the devil incarnate. Everyone knows. Honestly, he has led children into all sorts. Mainly with bears at the end

Amazing comment :)

Léighméleabhair · 17/06/2022 09:35

Never heard of Michael Rosen or this poem so I’ll have a look. I read mostly Enid Blyton, Just William and Tintin books as a child and bought them for my kids too.

Janinebutcher79 · 17/06/2022 10:21

I definitely wouldn’t let her read the hungry caterpillar then! Or the tiger that came for tea

Chaoslatte · 17/06/2022 10:23

@Léighméleabhair he’s a previous children’s laureate, you might have heard of what’s probably his most famous work - We’re going on a bear hunt Smile

SmellyWellyWoo · 17/06/2022 10:25

My 6 year old reads Horrid Henry books! What a terrible parent I am! 🤣

Fullsomefrenchie · 17/06/2022 10:29

Are you genuinely concerned your five year old will now wish to sneak into the kitchen and eat cake?

hangrylady · 17/06/2022 10:54

Hahahahahaha. You are ridiculous in case you didn't get the message already.

Glittertwins · 17/06/2022 10:55

PFB much???

FarmGirl78 · 17/06/2022 11:24

Heaven help you when she hears about Bruce Bogtrotter.
