Mr Kipling does NOT make exceedingly good cakes!

I remember seeing this advert circa 1978 and thinking how nice those French Fancies looked, but upon buying a box and taking a bite, it was bloody awful!

Sickly, and synthetic tasting.

Over the years I've tried a few more of his offerings and they have all been a huge disappointment and are either tasteless or synthetically over sweet tasting.

Exceedingly small cakes.

But I do like the French fancies!

cushioncovers · 12/06/2022 19:55

Yep they are sugary shite

Bloodybridget · 12/06/2022 19:56

I'm sure you're right, although I don't think I've ever eaten one of their products.

FuzzyPuffling · 12/06/2022 19:56

Lemon French Fancies are delicious.

MistyRuins · 12/06/2022 19:57

I like the angel slices and the lemon slices.

Other than that I'm not bothered.

blubberball · 12/06/2022 19:58

I fancy a French fancy now

SecretVictoria · 12/06/2022 19:58

I miss the nut and chocolate slices and the apple and custard pies!

CaramelJones · 12/06/2022 19:59

I love the Angel slices.

scrivette · 12/06/2022 19:59

I like the French Fancies and Viennese Whirls, not keen on any of the others. The French Fancies look so pretty.

KatherineJaneway · 12/06/2022 19:59

No he does not. Overly sweet, awful pastry etc.

Tothepoint99 · 12/06/2022 20:00

Cherry bakewell --every any day of the week!

GertiePie · 12/06/2022 20:00

I just bought some French Fancies last week after reminiscing about them with my dc. £2.40 they were. We were all quite underwhelmed.

JassyRadlett · 12/06/2022 20:00

I have tried one of their cakes exactly once and I think they're of those things that if you grew up with them, you have a nostalgic love for them.

If like me, you first encountered them in adulthood having eaten a fair amount of real cake, you'll just be horrified that they have somehow hoodwinked people.

Gliblet · 12/06/2022 20:00

YANBU, but when have you ever seen an advert that said 'We like money. We especially like other people's money when it turns into our money 😁That's why we spend as little as possible on our ingredients while trying to convince you to spend as much as possible on whatever shite we manage to cobble together from them. Look! Sprinkles!'?

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 12/06/2022 20:01

I only ever really liked the blackcurrant pies, but even they were incredibly sweet. YANBU.

Assistanttotheregionalmanager · 12/06/2022 20:01

Totally agree! Absolutely horrendous.

ScreamingMeMe · 12/06/2022 20:01

You're right, they are shite. As are Fox biscuits.

CaramelJones · 12/06/2022 20:02

I also love the Frosty Fancies which are somehow much nicer than the original fancies.

Squiff70 · 12/06/2022 20:04

He makes exceedingly dry cakes.

I live a few miles from a factory where Mr Kipling's products are made. Last week we were opposite the factory when the road filled with smoke and the smell of burning cakes. I even commented at the time that it was probably an improvement to their cakes.

TildaRae · 12/06/2022 20:04

I love French fancies. I can’t remember which brand it was maybe Mr Kipling, but I used to love the cupcakes in the 90s they had a thick yellow or orange icing slab on the top, haven’t seen them for about 25 years…

lifecouldbeadream · 12/06/2022 20:14

@TildaRae

The Fabulous Bakin Boys?

Coldnoseandtoes · 12/06/2022 20:14

I don't think any cakes with long shelf lives can ever be exceedingly good. But I wouldn't turn my nose up at one if I was offered it 😄

CeeJay81 · 12/06/2022 20:15

Use to have them all the time growing up. Now I'll only get vienesse whirls when they're on offer for 95p or something. Yep very over rated these days.

PrimrosesandPears · 12/06/2022 20:17

Lyons I think were the slab icing cakes.

I know you are right about mr Kipling but they remind me of buffets at my granny’s house and therefore always make me smile.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 12/06/2022 20:17

I know someone who works in the factory and refuses to feed them up his kids.

Tells you everything really, chemical crap
