Gardener moved in!

Mom757855 · 10/06/2022 05:59

About a month ago our gardener turned up on our doorstep with all his stuff in bin bags. His partner had thrown him out. He had no where to go, so we let him stay with us. We are not friends and have a professional relationship but we have enough room for him and he would have slept in his car otherwise. He says he will start to look for a rental this week but he’s been understandably quite low and hasn’t started yet but I trust he will.
The problem is he likes to go to the gym at 5.15 am and it wakes us all up. Is it unreasonable to ask him to go at a later time? We have two small kids and my husband has a very demanding job.
thanks

I hate it when this happens! Only last week my chamber maid AND cook both found themselves homeless! Thankfully there was room in the servants quarters for them.

Are you Gabrielle Solis?

At least you'll have some tidy bushes

🤣🤣🤣🤣

grapewines · 10/06/2022 08:05

Why you allowed him to move in in the first place is completely baffling. He played a blinder there. Tell him he has two weeks to move out of your house. Even that is generous.

LizzieSiddal · 10/06/2022 08:06

I expect he’s Hedging his bets.

carefullycourageous · 10/06/2022 08:06

You are very kind to do that OP Flowers

Both my parents and my DH's parents had people to stay at times, it is not completely unheard of.

I think I would explain he is waking you up and it is causing problems with the children, see if he offers to go out later, if not then ask if he would please go later. I personally would probably ask my DH to have the conversation, but that is because my DH has a calmer manner than me.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/06/2022 08:08

Try harder OP.

Why would a gardener need to go to the gym when they spend all day every day doing physical work?

The average gardener is probably fitter, stronger and burns more calories than just about everyone who 'goes to the gym' for exercise.

Greatoutdoors · 10/06/2022 08:10

I love going to the gym early but I get my stuff ready the night before, and literally roll out of bed into my leggings and trainers, grabbing my water from the bedside table. He should be able to leave more quietly really.
What’s he doing? Shower? He can do that at the gym. Getting breakfast - tell him fasting cardio’s good for him!
If he can’t do that he’ll have to go another time.

Is his name Mellors

Sean Bean was the best.
You can't change my mind.

22N · 10/06/2022 08:12

I think the least you can do is build him an annexe so he has his own space. Poor ruggedly handsome gardener trapped in the hell of domesticity.

WilsonMilson · 10/06/2022 08:16

Often the things I read on mumsnet are so batshit that I assume they are made up.

Who the hell rocks up to a clients door with their worldly possessions asking to stay. And who let’s a tradesman they employ, who isn’t even a friend, just move in. Mental. Unbelievable, in that I don’t believe this happened.

GrazingSheep · 10/06/2022 08:18

Every day is a doormat day on MN🙄

Pmsl at the people taking this seriously.

NotTheWomanIWas · 10/06/2022 08:30

Oh it's SO awful isn't when the hired help oversteps the boundary

TheRookie · 10/06/2022 08:30

So your house is big enough for him to stay yet him sneaking out of the house at 5am wakes everyone up?? This is absolutely bizarre, I can't imagine any scenario where I'd be happy for someone to live in my house who wasn't a very close friend or family.

SurfBox · 10/06/2022 08:35

ps- sadly he’s not a muscly 21 year old love island style contestant or id mind being woken up by him less....Is he very handsome and offering additional benefits....Can we have a photo of his bod so we can advise you please

if comments like this were made about women by men mn would go into a frenzy. Umpteen threads bash men for these sort of comments and yet nobody said boo when gender is reversed.

ShandaLear · 10/06/2022 08:35

Is he tending your ladygarden?

cue saxophone music

JogOnJimmy · 10/06/2022 08:38

My stable lad tried that one. Damn cheek. I gave him sharp shift and told him to bugger orf
Don't these people know their place?
I don't know what mummy would say if she found out

Basilbrushgotfat · 10/06/2022 08:38

Isn't it great to be a woman.

SqueakyShoe · 10/06/2022 08:41

The only way to deal with this is for you and your family to move out and leave him the house.

Do you have a cleaner you can all go and stay with? A tax consultant? Maybe the window cleaner?

RockinHorseShit · 10/06/2022 08:49

Even putting the bizarre circumstances aside. He's an inconsiderate arse of a guest in your home. You don't ask, you TELL him. Stop being too nice, or you risk him walking all over you. Your house, your rules & remind him to start looking NOW. Otherwise he will absolutely outstay his welcome
