Can't have two red cars

We need another car as we both drive to work (live rurally). I literally dont care what colour the car is...my take is you cant see the colour while you are driving. After spending a week looking I have found a car that meets specs, age, mileage etc at a reasonable price. My other half has just said he doesnt want two red cars outside our house. He's huffing and puffing about it. I dont understand ..is this a thing? We live rurally, have only 3 direct neighbours. I cant imagine that we will be the talk of the village because we have two red cars outside our house.

AIBU wanting to buy another car which happens to be red when we already have a red car or should I find another colour car.

Never heard of this being a thing. We have at various times had two blue cars, two black cars and two grey cars. Are they also a sign of something (other than perhaps a lack of imagination on our part? 😆)

we’ve had two red cars
we’ve had 2 blue cars
both times they were a Golf Estate and a Skoda Octavia, di very similar looking too.
Obviously now we are social pariahs.

That's so bizarre. Is he worried he'll get them muddled up? Would he have a problem with two blue cars or is it just red that's the problem?

What are you going to do? I'd be so curious I'd keep asking "But why? Why though? It makes no sense...."

We have a black van, black estate car and black car outside ours. It looks like a funeral parlour! 🤣

Never planned it, but when you are buying 2nd hand you dont get to choose the ideal colour.

4 of my dc have the same colour car!.

When I lived at home and so did my sister there were 3 almost identical red Toyotas outside the house! Only issue was sometimes you went to get into the wrong one when half asleep!

On my cul de sac the 2 car houses all have different colour cars.

I think it's because it will look intentional rather than you happened to buy a car in that colour. We are a red car household.

You may as well have matching cagoules.

My neighbour insisted on her daughters buying black cars to match hers and her husbands, she was concerned with them matching and looking good outside the house, particularly when parked together to contrast with the red door. Instagram has a lot to answer for.

id tell him unless he gives an actual reason you’ll be buying your nice red car. And frankly even if he does give you a reason I’d still buy it.

We have ended up with two red cars, different cars, different reds. The sky hasn’t yet fallen in. Next door also have two red cars, his more maroon and hers more orangey, but still. We chose ours because for both of them, solid red paint was included in the price and not an optional extra, with the only other choices for free being blues in shades we didn’t like, and white, which just gets dirty.

I love everyone with loads of cars the same colour lol. No its not just it being red. It would be two of any colour. He has just explained that it is his preference, that is who he is and that its freaky having two the same. I'll be getting the best one for me regardless of colour :0)

My husband hates if we have the same colour car ( previously had company cars and his car changes regularly) he thought it looked sad and didn’t want ‘his and hers’ matching cars… 🙄. I couldn’t give a monkeys .. however we haven’t ever ended up with matching cars for more than a couple of days…

When I lived at home my parents both had black cars a focus and something else, then I bought a red beetle (bloody loved that car), then my DM bought a red polo and a while after my DF bought a red Golf, my brother then bought his first car an old you guessed it VW Golf (black not red though). All were second hand cars and had been a good deal, low mileage etc at the time. It did look like a VW dealership. Your husband is being ridiculous.

@happystrummer make sure you tell everyone it was his choice to get another red car, because he wanted matching his and hers cars 😁

We have 2 dark grey cars, DH wasn't keen but I told him not to be ridiculous!
