Can't have two red cars

happystrummer · 06/06/2022 21:32

We need another car as we both drive to work (live rurally). I literally dont care what colour the car is...my take is you cant see the colour while you are driving. After spending a week looking I have found a car that meets specs, age, mileage etc at a reasonable price. My other half has just said he doesnt want two red cars outside our house. He's huffing and puffing about it. I dont understand ..is this a thing? We live rurally, have only 3 direct neighbours. I cant imagine that we will be the talk of the village because we have two red cars outside our house.

AIBU wanting to buy another car which happens to be red when we already have a red car or should I find another colour car.

I obsess over a lot of meaningless rubbish but I can't ever imagine ever giving the fact that a couple had two cars of the same colour even a passing thought! It just wouldn't even register as a thought.

Furrydogmum · 06/06/2022 22:11

I have 2 black cars, dh has no say in the matter - he can drive whatever colour car he likes!

FinallyHere · 06/06/2022 22:12

Thank you @happystrummer

he doesnt want two red cars outside our house. He's huffing and puffing about it

This made me laugh out loud.

How did you react to his histrionics?

now doesnt want to discuss

So at least he admits that his is being VVU

We are a choose the colour of your own car type household. Phew.

Dreikanter · 06/06/2022 22:12

Is he worried about traffic cop snooker?

Kerrrmieee · 06/06/2022 22:14

I can't stand it when I walk past a driveway with 2 red cars.

Not really, I pay zero attention.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 06/06/2022 22:21

Apart from some weird reason... The only reason I would object slightly 🤔 is my deep disinterest in cars.... Would mean I could mo longer say.... Are you taking the red or blue car today?...

BogRollBOGOF · 06/06/2022 22:24

I did once have neighbours with brand new matching red Puntos, only one reg digit apart. That level of matching was naff.

People happening to own a pair of cars that happen to be the same colour is not an issue.

BruceAndNosh · 07/06/2022 07:22

My neighbours have 2 red cars but hers is slightly orange tinged. I can see them from my kitchen window and the colours clash.
Ruins my day I tell you!

LakieLady · 07/06/2022 07:46

The colour of a car is my least important consideration. I think he's being weird, and possibly cares too much about what other people think.

BarbaraofSeville · 07/06/2022 07:49

For a while both DP and I both had blue cars, but now mine is black, just because I needed a new car and it happened to be that colour.
But when buying second hand cars, I don't think the colour of a car has ever been anything of a consideration, and at the moment it seems like a really odd thing to worry about.

Surely finding something suitable at a sensible price and that you'd hope wouldn't break down as soon as you've bought it is way more important than what colour it is?

You've found what could be a needle in a haystack at the moment with the second hand car shortage in something that is right in terms of age, specs, mileage and price and he's niggling over something totally inconsequential?

Arrange to go and see this car and if it seems right buy it, but tell your DP that he's welcome to look for another suitable car in budget in another colour and if he finds one, you'll consider looking at that one too.

Dalekjastninerels · 07/06/2022 07:49

What?!

Remainiac · 07/06/2022 07:56

This is hilarious. Poor man, imagine caring about stuff like that. We have two black cars 🤣.

happystrummer · 07/06/2022 07:57

@LakieLady yup very weird and overly concerned about what others think! I've told him the general consensus is he's odd 😀

We had 2 blue cars. 2 blue cars same make, same model, same year! However both bought second hand at different times. We bought the same make and model because we thought it was a bloody good car!

Common sign that swingers live there.

We have a red and a maroon car - so not only are we indicating we're swingers, they clash as well ... no wonder the neighbors have been giving us funny looks!😆

I love everyone with loads of cars the same colour lol. No its not just it being red. It would be two of any colour. He has just explained that it is his preference, that is who he is and that its freaky having two the same. I'll be getting the best one for me regardless of colour :0)

It's ofcourse considerate to take each other's preferences in mind, but there are currently not an unlimited amount of affordable cars to be had. So I'd say go get your 'second' red car. He will just have to deal.

MzHz · 07/06/2022 08:20

H has dark grey car, I said I’d not want to get a dark coloured car because it looks a bit matchy matchy, and black etc looks a bit try hard.

then I found a car I wanted, pre-registered so it was available now as opposed to 6m time AND £6k off… it was black… no brainier and I’m used to it.

I get what your h is saying, but focus on the car and the deal. The cars are different brands etc so aren’t the same otherwise

Musicalmistress · 07/06/2022 08:22

Not only did we have 2 cars the same colour but also the same make just slightly different models - think 5 door Vauxhall corsa & a 3 door corsa 😂😂😂

ilovemyelectriccar · 07/06/2022 08:26

Red car and red van here. Had intended to replace the van with an orange one but the wait after ordering is a year.. Just found and put a deposit on a cancelled order we can have within the month. It's red.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 07/06/2022 08:31

For a while our whole street had the same colour car, all that maroon/red colour that was popular for a while. It looked very colour co-ordinated.

Not intentional as it was a new build and the cars were owned before the houses.

Stroopwaffels · 07/06/2022 08:36

Similar thing crossed my mind when I got my car - DH's is black and I didn;t want a black one as I didn't want to be all "matchy matchy" with him. Our neighbours both have lease cars which they change every 2 or 3 years, they always get the same colours and it's a bit odd.

neatlittlerows · 07/06/2022 08:57

I was about to say he’s just being ridiculous. Then I remembered how fascinated I was 😬 with my neighbours who both had new Ford Focuses with almost identical reg plates, so they’d clearly bought them at the same time. I didn’t see the point in having the same car twice. Two red cars is fine!

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 07/06/2022 09:04

Two black cars here, never thought a thing about it.

Sswhinesthebest · 07/06/2022 09:07

Wouldn’t bother me but I didn’t like the time we had two different bright colour cars outside. They clashed!
Now we always go for a black/white/grey colour car if we’ve got a brighter colour one too.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 07/06/2022 09:07

Why does this man huff and puff? Does he think he is the big bad wolf? Do we ever hear of women huffing and puffing? No, because we are not fucking arses.
