Not aibu but need urgent help.

Putting this part as context as to why I'm so upset.. My partner of 23 years threw me out and made me homeless after he met someone else. I was homeless for a year then got my own flat which is taking me a long time to do up.

I saved for four years to take my bathroom out and have a wetroom fitted as I'm disabled. Was finished a few weeks ago and I finally felt happy for the first time in years.

I had a friend stay over when i went away for the weekend and came home three days later to a pile of wet clothes on my bathroom floor which she must have forgotten about. I'm not sure what has happened or how but I'm assuming dye from the clothes has ran and because it was left there it has stained my floor.

Been in tears today because nothing it taking it off and I can't afford to replace the floor. Does anyone have any ideas at all on how to fix this?

What have you tried so far?

Suddha · 01/06/2022 22:39

It looks like linoleum? You could try a specialist vinyl cleaning product, a bit of white vinegar, or (last resort and with great caution) nail varnish remover.

ScootsMcHoy · 01/06/2022 22:39

Right.

First start a new thread that's not in AIBU. Maybe in DIY and property.

Have a title saying the actual problem. Something like

Help with removing dye from marble

Then, put all the information you have it it. What the floor is made of, what the dye is etc.

Definitely don't arse about with it trying different things. You need to be reasonably sure it's going to work first.

stayathomer · 01/06/2022 22:39

keep calm op, hopefully some form of ordinary household magic food stuff will do it x

Bigtruth · 01/06/2022 22:40

Don't worry, there's something for every stain so as bad as it looks now, it is 100% possible to clear it up.

Unfortunately I don't know the exact answer for this one but try to relax knowing that at some point it will define sorted.

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/06/2022 22:40

Hi there. First of all, the floor is ruined from a cosmetic pov, I see that, but from a functional one - it is fine.

Do you have someone like a decent mate who could come and help you try some cleaning hacks?

What have you tried so far - nail polish remover? Baby wipes? Milton?

What is the flooring? Vinyl, Lino, ceramic tile? Sorry of I am being dense with this question.

Vapeyvapevape · 01/06/2022 22:40

i had this on vinyl flooring in my kitchen from the dye running out of wet coloured tissue paper . Try leaving bleach on it, keep checking it in case it makes it worse (it shouldn't though)

DysmalRadius · 01/06/2022 22:41

Have you contacted your friend? She might be able to help you work out what the dye is (and help clean it off since she's responsible for the mess!!).

FlibbertyGiblets · 01/06/2022 22:41

**if not of, sorry.

HairyBum · 01/06/2022 22:41

There will be a solution

Vapeyvapevape · 01/06/2022 22:42

Or as it's your friend fault, get them to replace the flooring

EveryoneButSam · 01/06/2022 22:43

Have you tried Flash magic eraser? Don't know if it will do dye but this has got all sorts of marks off hard flooring for me when nothing else did.

Neveranynamesleft · 01/06/2022 22:43

WD40 got nail polish out of a carpet. Worth a try ?

Forestgate · 01/06/2022 22:44

Don't panic! I'm sure it will come out. I had dye from a leaky biro left overnight on my ceramic kitchen worktop. Looked like it would never come out but daily cif white cream and some elbow grease and it was good as new after 3 days.

I wouldn't rely on random Internet tips though- phone the people who sold you the floor and get their professional advice

You don't want to make it worse

Good luck

Linoleum and vinyl are 2 different things. It’s pretty unlikely to be linoleum
If it is vinyl then it may have a clear top layer and if that is stained there isn’t a lot you can do unfortunately. If you sand it or similar you will probably remove the top layer and cause more damage, string solvents may do the same .
If you have a local flooring shop maybe go and speak to them and see what they suggest

GirlInACountrySong · 01/06/2022 22:45

that looks like hair dye!

Hoppinggreen · 01/06/2022 22:46

In fact that looks look vinyl safety floor - is it rough with sparkly bits in?
If so I’m sorry but that may be even more difficult

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 01/06/2022 22:46

No solutions sorry but it looks like that silver hair shampoo you can buy. It's purple when it comes out the bottle.

SunnyShiner · 01/06/2022 22:46

I think it's hair dye too. You could try bleach on cotton wool and l letting it soak (keep checking) but tbh if it's hair dye you'll unlikely be able to shift it.

FromEden · 01/06/2022 22:47

Baking soda and vinegar might work? Or a magic eraser

WobblyLondoner · 01/06/2022 22:48

I think your friend owes you an explanation and some help. Am struggling to see how that is clothes die so agree with others' suggestions about it being hair dye.

Yarnasaurus · 01/06/2022 22:49

I'd try dabbing some bleach on it.

Psychonabike · 01/06/2022 22:51

I would make up a paste of barkeeper's friend and leave it for a while. Never found anything this stuff won't clean.

Hatinafield · 01/06/2022 22:54

If it’s only recently laid presumably you know what brand it is? I would contact the manufacturer and ask their advice.

MynameisJune · 01/06/2022 22:54

That looks like hair dye to me too and she’s obviously covered it with clothes so you wouldn’t immediately see it on your return.

I’d also ring the flooring company and ask for advice.
