Not aibu but need urgent help.

Putting this part as context as to why I'm so upset.. My partner of 23 years threw me out and made me homeless after he met someone else. I was homeless for a year then got my own flat which is taking me a long time to do up.

I saved for four years to take my bathroom out and have a wetroom fitted as I'm disabled. Was finished a few weeks ago and I finally felt happy for the first time in years.

I had a friend stay over when i went away for the weekend and came home three days later to a pile of wet clothes on my bathroom floor which she must have forgotten about. I'm not sure what has happened or how but I'm assuming dye from the clothes has ran and because it was left there it has stained my floor.

Been in tears today because nothing it taking it off and I can't afford to replace the floor. Does anyone have any ideas at all on how to fix this?

your friend is not a friend.

unless you’re the friend and panicking….!

AndSoTonight · 02/06/2022 05:12

Do you have contents insurance? Depending on the cost of replacing a portion of the flooring, it may be worth claiming.

But yes, there may well be a solution. Baking soda...

Neu · 02/06/2022 05:14

I'd guess she left the clothes to cover up the damage and I'd ask her to put it right!

Looks like vinyl safety flooring. Ask the flooring contractor exactly what it is and what they would recommend to clean it. It looks like the kind of flooring often fitted in commercial settings and can take a lot of punishment. There's bound to be something they can recommend.

I'd also ask your friend for their honesty in what actually caused the issue. It's not fair of them to leave the responsibility to you when you don't even know what caused the damage.

If it isn't possible to clean it, then ask for a quotation for repair or replacement. And ask your friend how they intend to proceed

This!

Your friend is outrageous to leave you with this problem!

It looks like hair dye/shampoo? To me...

Put pressure on your friend to explain /remedy... This should NOT be your problem!

Try hand sanitiser..... it is amazing at removing stains!

RaspberryChouxBuns · 02/06/2022 05:24

WD40 and a magic sponge

Cervinia · 02/06/2022 05:31

It’s hair toner. I have also marked various bathroom surfaces with it, I agree with the bleach. I put neat bleach on it carefully and leave for a few minutes and it usually lifts this off, as well as eyelash/brow dye which I have stained things with before too.

Maurepas · 02/06/2022 05:31

Washing soda crystals? They can be dissolved in warm water and sprayed on. Use gloves.

CHiSOCG · 02/06/2022 05:49

Get a new friend

Notfatundertall · 02/06/2022 05:56

Your "friend" needs to tell you what it is, my guess is hair dye.

She also owes you a new floor if it won't come up. In my experience if it is hair dye nothing will shift it now that it has dried.

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 02/06/2022 06:13

Try pink stuff, the cream variety. You'll get it in B & M. It took a burn mark off of my kitchen floor from the kids on their go-cart 🙈

Ddot · 02/06/2022 06:25

Ask the flooring company if it is bleach tolerant. If it is soak a piece of toilet paper in bleach, then stick it to the stain. Leave for a few hours and it should go, great for cleaning grout too. I got boot polish on my cream carpet, tried various things. WD40 got it out. At the end of the day your mate should help as she spilt what ever that is. Cheeky bugger should not have been using hair dye in your house without your permission (that's what it looks like)

I would make up a paste of barkeeper's friend and leave it for a while. Never found anything this stuff won't clean.

On google's advice, I used barkeepers friend yesterday to remove a black ring on my oak worktop (caused by a wet tin being left). Just made a paste and left it, no rubbing required (fir those later in the thread saying not to use barkeepers as its abrasive). Something in the solution lifted the stain.

ehb102 · 02/06/2022 07:48

Barkeeper's Friend

Smartsub · 02/06/2022 07:52

That's accidental damage and an insurance claim. The insurance company may be able to clean it, or it will need to be replaced. And friend pays the excess.

What does friend have to say about it?

Smartsub · 02/06/2022 07:54

I love Bar Keeper's Friend for most things, but some caution is needed. It's completely ruined my composite front door. I used it to try and remove greasy finger marks, but it's taken the top layer of the colour off.

Christinatherabbit · 02/06/2022 08:04

What is your friend saying it is?

saleorbouy · 02/06/2022 08:04

Try WD40 or nail varnish.
This upvc window frame cleaner is very good too. Not sure it's effect on lino so check first but. It's from Screwfix,Toolstation have similar.

”The pink stuff” has worked amazingly to get hair dye off the floor and sink for me. I’m yet to find a stain it can’t remove. Picture attached.

Swayingpalmtrees · 02/06/2022 08:09

Your friend needs to pay for a replacement

Lots of great ideas, but it’s ridiculous to try anything without speaking to the people who fitted your floor and the person who stained it. Both things you can easily do.

All the stuff about your boyfriend splitting up with you, being homeless for a year (?) and being disabled… all totally irrelevant and reads like you’re hoping someone will come replace the floor for free.

Wickywickyyow · 02/06/2022 08:14

Can't be that urgent, OP never came back!

Nanny0gg · 02/06/2022 08:20
