Not aibu but need urgent help.

Putting this part as context as to why I'm so upset.. My partner of 23 years threw me out and made me homeless after he met someone else. I was homeless for a year then got my own flat which is taking me a long time to do up.

I saved for four years to take my bathroom out and have a wetroom fitted as I'm disabled. Was finished a few weeks ago and I finally felt happy for the first time in years.

I had a friend stay over when i went away for the weekend and came home three days later to a pile of wet clothes on my bathroom floor which she must have forgotten about. I'm not sure what has happened or how but I'm assuming dye from the clothes has ran and because it was left there it has stained my floor.

Been in tears today because nothing it taking it off and I can't afford to replace the floor. Does anyone have any ideas at all on how to fix this?

Hand sanitiser with alcohol would shift it.

Mustnotbeleftblank · 01/06/2022 23:37

HG mould remover.

Campervangirl · 01/06/2022 23:39

If its lino put a drop of acetone on a cotton bud, you can buy acetone from Boots and gently wipe it over. If it starts to come off get a cotton wool pad and go a bit further, start gently to make sure it doesn't take the colour out of the lino, gget a soapy rag and wipe the acetone off as you go.

Hairspray on a soft cloth removes Sharpie from a wood table so might work in this instance too.

estellacruella · 01/06/2022 23:49

theres a wonderfull woman called ann russel on tiktok and she knows the lot when it comes to cleaning. never seen a situation yet she cant solve .

Calmdown14 · 01/06/2022 23:49

Contact the manufacturer and find out if it's bleach cleanable.

If it is, try bleach in the first instance and if that doesn't work, Dettol mould and mildew remover in the green bottle. Only thing that lifted curry stains off our light laminate counters. Spray it and leave it.

Also agree on a magic sponge and does the room get sunlight? If so get back the blinds or open the window. Amazing what it takes out

Nail polish remover will get that out. Looks like hair dye to me.

Right.

First start a new thread that's not in AIBU. Maybe in DIY and property.

Have a title saying the actual problem. Something like

Help with removing dye from marble

Then, put all the information you have it it. What the floor is made of, what the dye is etc.

Definitely don't arse about with it trying different things. You need to be reasonably sure it's going to work first.

Agree - wrong forum, wrong thread title.

AuntyBumBum · 01/06/2022 23:57

I've used maple syrup before.

TheWayoftheLeaf · 02/06/2022 00:00

Bleach might work but can't say without the material listed

Threetulips · 02/06/2022 00:03

Have you tried Astonish cleaner - it’s about £1 and I’ve shifted hair dye with it before. Wooden door but it worked.

Aquamarine1029 · 02/06/2022 00:03

Tell your idiot friend that she needs to pay to replace the she's ruined.

BeenHereForYonkyDoodles · 02/06/2022 00:07

100% call the company who fitted the floor.
I had to do similar recently, they were brilliant and checked with the manufacturer for me before recommending a solution.
Good luck!

This is the starting point.

I was always getting hair dye on Lino floor in the bathroom when I was younger.
Did your friend dye her hair and wrap it in a towel? Looks like she might have left the dirty towel on the floor.
Bleach gets most of it off or at least lightens it.
Wipe bleach over the stain and leave it overnight.
Wipe clean the next morning.

SweetMystery · 02/06/2022 00:18

Acetone is suggested…

AngelinaFangelina · 02/06/2022 00:36

Some great suggestions here already. Don't despair OP!
First off I'd be messaging your friend and asking what it is that is spilled on/marked your floor. Identifying what it is is a great start to finding the cure. You don't have to come across as immediately accusatory/angry -just send the photo and ask if they have any idea as you can't remove the stain. I know I'd be devastated and embarrassed if I'd done that and would be desperate to help repair the damage. Hopefully if she is a good friend this will be the case.
Good luck, I'm sure you can find an answer amongst the answers here.

It’s annoying yes but urgent?

notangelinajolie · 02/06/2022 01:13

Not sure why it’s urgent because that stain isn’t going anywhere fast. It looks like purple shampoo to me. Do they have blond hair/highlights by any chance?
You have 3 options. Your friend fixes it. You claim on your insurance and your friend pays the excess. You fix it. In that order.

FavouritePi · 02/06/2022 01:13

I'd be very careful with it, if I'm correct, it looks like the rough surface you get in wet rooms rather a smooth finish. Check with the installer before using strong products because you could damage it more.

DimplesToadfoot · 02/06/2022 01:18

If its hair dye then try the "pink stuff" on it, it's what we use to clean up after a red and purple hair dying session, it gets the dye off everything, even our skin if a glove breaks :-)

Good luck!

Varietyplaza · 02/06/2022 01:24

Do you have gumption there?
I use it on EVERYTHING. If gumption can't fix it nothing can.
