Not aibu but need urgent help.

Putting this part as context as to why I'm so upset.. My partner of 23 years threw me out and made me homeless after he met someone else. I was homeless for a year then got my own flat which is taking me a long time to do up.

I saved for four years to take my bathroom out and have a wetroom fitted as I'm disabled. Was finished a few weeks ago and I finally felt happy for the first time in years.

I had a friend stay over when i went away for the weekend and came home three days later to a pile of wet clothes on my bathroom floor which she must have forgotten about. I'm not sure what has happened or how but I'm assuming dye from the clothes has ran and because it was left there it has stained my floor.

Been in tears today because nothing it taking it off and I can't afford to replace the floor. Does anyone have any ideas at all on how to fix this?

Looks like hair dye. Pretty certain your friend knew it was there and that's why the wet clothes were left, to hide it. What does your friend say about it and what is their plan to help fix it?

Fwiw if I spill hair dye on our bathroom vinyl flooring a spray of Flash with bleach left for a few minutes then wiped up with Clinell wipes (green pack) makes it good as new. I don't usually leave it to dry though.

Does anyone else see a dragon reading a book or is it just me?

evilharpy · 02/06/2022 08:55

Looks like altro flooring? My friend spilled blue hair dye on hers and I tried to help her remove it. Nothing shifted it unfortunately. We tried pink stuff, bleach, acetone, you name it. It's still there years later. The flooring itself is indestructible.

Sorry OP - I'd look into claiming on your home insurance

Jedsnewstar · 02/06/2022 08:56

Try hand sanitizer we use that in work when someone uses permanent marker on a whiteboard.

Another thing maybe those colour catcher sheets may soak up some.

Avoid hot water though it may set it.

LjSebs · 02/06/2022 08:58

Try white spirit or meths. If not then maybe cellulose thinners/pure turps

Mrsmch123 · 02/06/2022 08:59

Pink stuff hair dye of my new bathroom floor. I would have died when I seen it. The floor had been down a week and I was stood on an old towel but it must have missed and went on the floor🤦🏻‍♀️

Hoosemover · 02/06/2022 09:01

try hair spray
have used this to clean off permanent mark from a variety of surfaces.

BiscoffAnythingIsTheWayForward · 02/06/2022 09:03

I use either rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or funnily enough, the window cleaner pictured below. I get it from poundstretcher but you may be able to get elsewhere? It gets ink out of my kids school clothes instantly so may be worth a try if nothing else works.

I have a singular drip of hair dye on some vinyl flooring that nothing will remove and I have tried everything mentioned, I've thrown everything at it to no avail. I'd contact your friend and ask for replacement money.

GirlInACountrySong · 01/06/2022 22:45

that looks like hair dye!

I agree. I’ve been stupid enough to spill/splatter/drop the stained towel before and it’s been exactly like this.
mid it was under a pile of clothes it sounds like the friend has panicked and hidden the evidence 😬
I’ve never successfully got it up.

Emmelina · 02/06/2022 09:19

*As it, not mid!

theremustonlybeone · 02/06/2022 09:27

You need to call your friend and ask her what it is. She has clearly hidden this with the clothes .

Ddot · 02/06/2022 09:36

Ask the flooring company how to clean but first find out what the hell it is

Favouritefruits · 02/06/2022 09:38

Elbow grease oven cleaner, I got tomato sauce out using that on my kitchen floor. Pour it on leave it ten mins then it should wipe away.

Try what I suggested earlier soak tissue in bleach stick to dye stain and leave for hour or two. Tried bleach never worked but this way it does. I got this tip off a mumsnetter

Divebar2021 · 02/06/2022 09:43

Who dyes their hair in someone else’s house? ( in their new bathroom) . It’s not as if it isn’t notorious for getting everywhere.

Basketet · 02/06/2022 09:44

If it's linoleum, spray bleach on to the stain and leave for half an hour then rub off. Repeat this until it fades altogether. I've had purple dye stain my bathroom floor too - not by a friend though!

If this is a close friend, I would call or text and bring it up. Explain what you have said in your OP. They ought to offer, really, to pay up for new flooring. Leaving wet laundry on the floor says it all about their level of care.

ringemoooo · 02/06/2022 09:49

Agree with others that it looks like she has spilled hair dye and then piled the clothes on top to try to cover it. There's no way so much dye would run out of a piece of wet clothing....
I think you should phone her and ask her what it is and how she plans to help you clean it up.

TheFormidableMrsC · 02/06/2022 09:50

I think I've got this flooring, Amtico safety flooring? If so it is difficult to remove stains. I've had some success with nail polish remover but in the first instance I'd contact the supplier and ask their advice. Bleach doesn't work on this type of flooring in my experience. I can imagine your frustration, what an awful thing to happen on something you've saved so hard for.

You need to contact your friend and ask her what it is, if it won't come out she'll need to pay.

Phobiaphobic · 02/06/2022 10:20

I would make this your friend's problem, not yours.

TargusEasting · 02/06/2022 10:34

Audrey Hepburn would have got the friend to replace the floor and something for the inconvenience.

@pigletjohn has now been called. Hopefully he will be along later to provide some wisdom.

DarkDarkNight · 02/06/2022 10:36

send your friend a picture and ask her what it is as you’re having trouble removing it. Could it be purple shampoo? It doesn’t look like dye from clothes.

Ring the flooring company you bought it from, or even better message the manufacturer and ask them what you can use without damaging the floor. The more information you have from your friend about what type of stain it is the better they can advise you.

SafelySoftly · 02/06/2022 10:40

Yes ask your friend what it is and get them to pay for new floor.

I also do think the title is a bit dramatic, given the OP hasn’t even been back to post again so can’t be that worried.
