Modern Milkman is awful

darksquidge14 · 24/05/2022 23:48

My fiance and I were walking home from the shop when a salesman showed up at my door before we got in, talking about the app. Since we live in middlesbrough, and it was dark, we felt a bit obliged to listen to the hooded man at our door.

We signed up and it was probably the worst decision we made this year.

We ordered 3 bottles of milk twice a week. On saturdays and tuesdays. The first few weeks went really well. On time and consistent.

Almost a month in, I was woken up by one of the delivery men shouting: "I dont care! I f*cking dont care", this was around 5am, mind you. I saw the recording on my amazon blink camera.

After this incident, i noticed my milk was not complete. I would either get 2, 1 or even nothing. This frustrated us as we're paying £3 per delivery for this and they cant even deliver.

My fiance has tried so hard to cancel. It's IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. No phoneline, barely any help on the app. My fiance found a way and they stated they would contact but still haven't even bothered!
They are still taking money from his account but are not delivering anything to the door. I'm disgusted with this service and will not be recommending this to ANYONE.

Tldr: don't buy from these guys, they'll take your money and not deliver anything, impossible to cancel.

Can you cancel the Direct Debit?

Isaidnoalready · 24/05/2022 23:57

Cancel the payment with the bank they will soon phone up

twoandcooplease · 25/05/2022 00:02

I had a similar experience. Not with the delivery drivers but not being able to cancel. I signed up heavily pregnant thinking it would be great when I'm not able to go to the shop etc but when they messed up orders we were given X delivery free as a token of goodwill for errors but then they'd bill me for them etc. we're awful to talk to so I just cancelled the Direct Debit on my online banking. Next , got threatening collection emails and letters for £3.80 or something for milk that was never delivered! For a good few months they kept texting. I ignored them all including the laughable threat of court via post. I think it cost them more in stamps

watcherintherye · 25/05/2022 00:04

Not heard of them, but thanks for the warning. Had enough trouble a few years back with a local dairy to put me off having milk delivered. And yes, I would cancel the direct debit!

ohmyfod · 25/05/2022 00:05

The milk is horrible anyway. Has anybody noticed it makes a terrible cup of tea? It doesn’t taste right at all. Then it all because congealed in the cup.

ohmyfod · 25/05/2022 00:07

*becomes congealed in the cup

Eh????

Regardless, just cancel the direct debit, assuming that is how you are paying. Job done.

ThreeLittleDots · 25/05/2022 00:12

Cancel the direct debit or if it's a debit / credit card, cancel the card and have it reissued.

PurpleButterflyWings · 25/05/2022 00:20

I must admit I've never heard of modern milkman

alexdgr8 · 25/05/2022 00:34

i saw another well known milk delivery van the other morning.
came speeding down the road then did a tyre-screeching halt.
i looked out window, saw man leaning into his van in a strange way, at the side, his hands low, not reaching up for any products.
from his posture it was obvious that he was urinating against the side of the vehicle, stopped in the middle of the road.
it was early, about 5am, but still.

alexdgr8 · 25/05/2022 00:37

a neighbour gets milk from a one-man band, and is ok.
he accepts cheques which she likes, and offered to fetch her anything from local shop.
he does not have a website, too busy delivering and taking payments in cash/cheque.
north london area.

nearlyspringyay · 25/05/2022 00:37

I was interested in them when they started delivering here but the hard sell on the doorstep that we had to sign up there and then really annoyed me.

We use Milk & More and have had no issues at all

alexdgr8 · 25/05/2022 00:38

he also conducts himself as a decent grown up man.

alexdgr8 · 25/05/2022 00:40

i guess it depends on the individual driver with the big companies.
are they a franchise operation i wonder, milk & more.

so what?

Soulstirring · 25/05/2022 03:38

I cancelled dd and dropped my order to 1 bottle as infrequently as possible. Couldn’t do 0. They stopped delivering and emailing.

Madmaxxy · 25/05/2022 03:46

I also signed up with a canvasser as they promised me they were cheaper than Milk and More and I thought I'd give them a try. Canvasser failed to tell me about the delivery charge which meant the milk would cost double what I pay with milk and more. Luckily I managed to cancel before the first delivery. Not impressed

Moral of the story, if it ain't broke don't fix it! Been with milk and more for 3 years, never had an issue apart from that they can be a bit slow to update changes to a regular order.

MissChanandlerBong80 · 25/05/2022 05:28

Thanks for the warning. They do the doorstep hard sell round here and I had considered signing up. But I absolutely hate subscription services that make it impossible to cancel.

@CapMarvel are you familiar with Middlesbrough? 😀

Thisismynamenow · 25/05/2022 05:35

They knocked on my door last week, I was midway through changing my 2 week old and opened the door as I thought it was a relative who was coming round.

I told them I was considering their subscription but was busy changing my newborn so would do it online. They proceeded to push me to sign up on their 'last spot of the round' as it would only take 5 minutes or theyll come back in 10 minutes. I told them i don't have 5 minutes, as im changing my baby, I'm actually interested (I was) but will do it online when my baby is asleep.

They continued to push, so I got annoyed and said 'things are a bit manic atm, I can't sign up currently'

Their response was so rude! 'Yes you do seem to be manic and not coping' then walked off!

Way to make a new ftm feel confident at her front door.

Will never use them now. Shame as I did want a milkman...

Isitsixoclockalready · 25/05/2022 05:39

Can't complain at all about our milkman. We can make ad hoc changes with no problems and it's been an efficient delivery service up to now. The lad who originally signed us up was very friendly and we didn't sign up on the spot.

IsThisNormal123 · 25/05/2022 05:45

totally agree OP.
my husband annoyingly signed up to this, missed deliveries and very difficult to cancel.

FeloniusGru · 25/05/2022 05:52

I cancelled easy enough via their live chat, I think I did have to reiterate several times that I wanted to cancel though as they kept offering me discounts. They started off well but then deliveries kept being missed or they would deliver at 10pm so milk was sitting outside for 8-9 hours before we brought it in!
We have been using Milk & More for around 18 months now and not a single missed delivery or issue with them.

GraceandMolly · 25/05/2022 06:27

We’ve used Milkman for over a year and I can’t complain at all, it’s been brilliant. We started with deliveries 2x a week,
but I’ve upped it 3x. Everything’s been accurate and I’ve had no issues cancelling orders, changing or stopping for a few weeks whilst on holiday.
Our milk tastes good.
