Modern Milkman is awful

darksquidge14 · 24/05/2022 23:48

My fiance and I were walking home from the shop when a salesman showed up at my door before we got in, talking about the app. Since we live in middlesbrough, and it was dark, we felt a bit obliged to listen to the hooded man at our door.

We signed up and it was probably the worst decision we made this year.

We ordered 3 bottles of milk twice a week. On saturdays and tuesdays. The first few weeks went really well. On time and consistent.

Almost a month in, I was woken up by one of the delivery men shouting: "I dont care! I f*cking dont care", this was around 5am, mind you. I saw the recording on my amazon blink camera.

After this incident, i noticed my milk was not complete. I would either get 2, 1 or even nothing. This frustrated us as we're paying £3 per delivery for this and they cant even deliver.

My fiance has tried so hard to cancel. It's IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. No phoneline, barely any help on the app. My fiance found a way and they stated they would contact but still haven't even bothered!
They are still taking money from his account but are not delivering anything to the door. I'm disgusted with this service and will not be recommending this to ANYONE.

Tldr: don't buy from these guys, they'll take your money and not deliver anything, impossible to cancel.

Please explain?

We had modern milkman and had several problems with missing deliveries. We’ve found a local milkman who is reliable and the milk is better!

MintyMoocow · 25/05/2022 07:05

Some services have just outlived their usefulness. We don’t need milkmen because we have cars and fridges and Ocado.
Its like still expecting to use the services of a lamp-lighter or a knocker-upper. Let them die..

nearlyspringyay · 25/05/2022 07:20

Totally disagree @MintyMoocow Ouse the milkman to Supporting local dairies and
Reducing plastic, all our milk, orange juice, water and yogurt comes in glass

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 25/05/2022 07:27

Since we live in middlesbrough, and it was dark, we felt a bit obliged to listen to the hooded man at our door.

On a similar theme (although not in Middlesbrough, and it was dawn) I had a rather one-sided conversation with a squirrel.

underneathleaf · 25/05/2022 07:31

Genuine question - are there not independent milkmen where people are using these companies. Why would you not support a local business if you were signing up to such a service? We have a local man and there are several to choose from.

They knocked on my door last week, I was midway through changing my 2 week old and opened the door as I thought it was a relative who was coming round.

I told them I was considering their subscription but was busy changing my newborn so would do it online. They proceeded to push me to sign up on their 'last spot of the round' as it would only take 5 minutes or theyll come back in 10 minutes. I told them i don't have 5 minutes, as im changing my baby, I'm actually interested (I was) but will do it online when my baby is asleep.

They continued to push, so I got annoyed and said 'things are a bit manic atm, I can't sign up currently'

Their response was so rude! 'Yes you do seem to be manic and not coping' then walked off!

Way to make a new ftm feel confident at her front door.

Will never use them now. Shame as I did want a milkman...

Jesus, that is rude. No reflection on you though

Sammilouwho · 25/05/2022 07:55

We use them, we had them since the start of lockdown when we lived in a different area and now for over a year in where we live now.
Both west Yorkshire area, definitely can't complain, they have been brilliant for us.
I had to pause it indefinitely last year when I got sick and we weren't even using a pint a week and they were brilliant and even sent a gift when I recovered.
For our area, I would definitely recommend!

I haven't had experience of a canvasser though, I wonder if they have a list of houses that already have a delivery.

vjg13 · 25/05/2022 07:58

We had a very persistent overly aggressive modern milkman salesman a few years ago despite already having a milkman and he was stood next to the empties berating me!

PermanentTemporary · 25/05/2022 07:59

They've been fine for me. Think it must depend a lot on the individuals involved.

HDready · 25/05/2022 08:03

We’ve used them for more than a year with no problem. I wouldn’t buy from Milk and More as it’s owned by Muller and don’t pay its farmers well.

Choufleurfromage · 25/05/2022 08:06

PurpleButterflyWings · 25/05/2022 00:20

I must admit I've never heard of modern milkman

Probably from the same stable as a 'Modern matron'...

Ardmano · 25/05/2022 08:06

Cancel the cheque! 😁

VenusClapTrap · 25/05/2022 08:08

Disagree. It’s worth it for the reusing of glass bottles alone. The amount of plastic we used to get through was awful. Yes, we recycled it, but re-use is far better for the environment.

Hotelhelp · 25/05/2022 08:08

I had the same once. Thug type on the doorstep and felt I couldn’t say no! Agreed to get rid of him then struggled to cancel it.

queenMab99 · 25/05/2022 08:11

I was persuaded to sign up to Maureen's, who told me they were local, they weren't they are based in Scotland, the service was unreliable, so I cancelled it. When lockdown began, I found a local firm, who are great, deliver very reliably, in recyclable glass bottles and also do eggs, their prices are reasonable, just slightly more than supermarkets.

Namenic · 25/05/2022 08:12

Milk and more are good - have been with them for a couple of years.

Georgeskitchen · 25/05/2022 08:12

They canvassed our area . I politely declined and they didn't push me. We have had the same independent milkman for over 20 years and never been let down.
I never sign up to ANYTHING on the doorstep

IamnotSethRogan · 25/05/2022 08:17

We use Milk and More and it's a great service. We can cancel/amend the order the day before if we feel we've got too much milk. They always deliver what's ordered and the website is really easy to use.

I'm sometimes up when they come and like to hear them clinking about. Also, they don't leave their engine running while they get out of the van (like every other delivery driver)

starlingdarling · 25/05/2022 08:18

We used Milk and More for about 2 years. It was great for the first year then the milkman changed. The old one always used the milk minder (a polystyrene box they sell that holds 4 bottles to keep them cool) and if we forgot to put it out, he made a point of putting the milk behind a small wall in the shade. The new milkman rarely used the box and on sunny days we were waking up to warm milk that quickly went off. I complained and they told me it was my fault for putting the empties in the box, they should be by the side for health and safety reasons. I told them I couldn't leave the bottles loose because they'd been knocked over and smashed by animals in the night twice before. After that complaint the milkman started leaving the empty bottles behind in the box and leaving the milk in the sun. I gave up and went back to buying from Sainsburys.

i saw another well known milk delivery van the other morning.
came speeding down the road then did a tyre-screeching halt.
i looked out window, saw man leaning into his van in a strange way, at the side, his hands low, not reaching up for any products.
from his posture it was obvious that he was urinating against the side of the vehicle, stopped in the middle of the road.
it was early, about 5am, but still.

A milk van did a tyre-screeching halt? That I'd like to see.

Stapleton143 · 25/05/2022 08:18

We have used modern milkman for nearly a year, absolutely brilliant. Always deliver everything we want, no complaints here, and less plastic bottles and juice cartons. Couldn’t be without it now, must depend on the area.

hangrylady · 25/05/2022 08:38

I'm really don't get why anybody would have a milkman these days. It's an outdated concept which is way more expensive than buying milk from the supermarket. I get the support local argument, but companies like
Milk and More aren't local independents. 🤔
Agree with others OP, cancel tge DD and ensure you have evidence that you have emailed the company to cancel.

Johnnysgirl · 25/05/2022 08:43

Cancel the d/d! You don't have to continue allowing them to take money from your account Confused
I cancelled Milk and More recently too. They're also appalling.
