Modern Milkman is awful

darksquidge14 · 24/05/2022 23:48

My fiance and I were walking home from the shop when a salesman showed up at my door before we got in, talking about the app. Since we live in middlesbrough, and it was dark, we felt a bit obliged to listen to the hooded man at our door.

We signed up and it was probably the worst decision we made this year.

We ordered 3 bottles of milk twice a week. On saturdays and tuesdays. The first few weeks went really well. On time and consistent.

Almost a month in, I was woken up by one of the delivery men shouting: "I dont care! I f*cking dont care", this was around 5am, mind you. I saw the recording on my amazon blink camera.

After this incident, i noticed my milk was not complete. I would either get 2, 1 or even nothing. This frustrated us as we're paying £3 per delivery for this and they cant even deliver.

My fiance has tried so hard to cancel. It's IMPOSSIBLE to cancel. No phoneline, barely any help on the app. My fiance found a way and they stated they would contact but still haven't even bothered!
They are still taking money from his account but are not delivering anything to the door. I'm disgusted with this service and will not be recommending this to ANYONE.

Tldr: don't buy from these guys, they'll take your money and not deliver anything, impossible to cancel.

It isn’t the same as when I was a kid anyway, it’s just a guy in a transit van.

Exactly! I had visions* *of it being a lovely old-fashioned milk float like from Open All Hours! It was actually a transit but it did have an open back and a light so that you could see inside when they delivered in the early hours. Anyway this was a local dairy and we cancelled when they missed deliveries. Also sometimes we'd get a sour bottle so just how fresh was it anyway? You pay a premium so it just wasn't worth it.

CatherineCawood · 26/05/2022 09:03

@Johnnysgirl they deliver 2 or 3 times a week only, not daily, so you do have to stock up if you don't want to go to the shops as well.

Oh, really? Ours used to deliver daily, but was useless in other ways. I wouldn't see the point in an occasional service.

Womblesaremyfavouritefood · 26/05/2022 09:15

We had one of these hard sell chaps come round last week! It really was very hard sell - even though I said from the off we weren't interested. Glad I sent him away.

vjg13 · 26/05/2022 10:59

We have the old style milkman and he is fantastic, delivers really early and a nice man. It's expensive but worth it IMHO. He gave us a few free pints the week we moved in and sucked us in like a drug dealer!

ValerieCupcake · 26/05/2022 11:01

Twice I have had guys knock on the door asking me to sign up to this.

Actually it was Milk and More, not the modern milkman that came to my house. My neighbours have Milk and More but I am out all day, prefer to get it from the shops myself. The guys were both nice and polite and not thuggy looking.

I looked on the Modern Milkman site and it seems to be northern England. But the site looks great and doesn't add up with thuggy type guys turning up with the milk. I can't imagine these sort of chavs being bothered about the environment. Something doesn't seem right.

PeekAtYou · 26/05/2022 12:07

Was hoping to hear why OP felt obliged to listen to the hooded man at the door. I would be trying to wrap up the conversation quickly with any polite excuse that I could think of.

ElCoh · 26/05/2022 12:11

You know you can shut your door when "hooded men" come chatting to you. Weirdo.

Witchofthedales · 26/05/2022 12:23

We had a bloke like this at our door, he was very forward and seemed to not want to take no for an answer, my DH sent him on his way but it makes you worry for vulnerable, elderly people, the attitude this one had I can imagine it would be quite intimidating for an elderly person let alone anyone else.

Lilbunnyfufu · 26/05/2022 12:47

I cancelled by contacting customer service took them about 2 weeks to reply.
My milk kept being left on someone else's door step

🤣

Yep is useless so I gave up with it. Pointless. A real shame.

BooseysMom · 31/05/2022 19:38

Funnily enough a salesman came to the doorstep yesterday trying to get us to sign up for milk. It was McQueen's dairy. Their 4 pint plastic bottles are nearly £2.50. We pay £1.30 in Waitrose. I would only pay more for glass.

JanglyBeads · 31/05/2022 19:50

I've had good experiences since we started in Sept. Yes it's expensive but it's one less thing to remember to buy and lug home from the supermarket, and of course you're saving plastic big time.
Their bakery products are rather nice too.

otherbookmarks · 31/05/2022 19:59

We also have local milk deliveries in Hartlepool, just down the road from you. We haven't gone with it because they drive round at 3am delivering in a noisy diesel truck. The noise is horrendous! The milk's fine though, and they also sell raw milk from a vending machine on their farm. This is from a proper dairy farmer, I do wish they'd use the old style electric vehicles though 😄

otherbookmarks · 31/05/2022 20:00

Forgot to say we buy direct from the farm!

Witchcraftandhokum · 31/05/2022 21:17

We use them. No complaints at all . Wasn't pushy, always on time and I frequently make last minute changes to my order with no problem.

itsnotmeitsu · 31/05/2022 21:50

@TwoLeftSocksWithHoles > 'On a similar theme (although not in Middlesbrough, and it was dawn) I had a rather one-sided conversation with a squirrel.'

I really laughed at your post, even though it's not about milk gangsters. That's because I have my own squirrel pals, but my best friends are pigeons. On our first holiday after a couple of years (lockdowns), I was chatting to a pigeon, saying 'It's all a bit shit isn't it?' He looked at me and sidled away, but I know he knew what I was talking about 😀.

Livicrazy · 10/07/2024 13:38

I as a person do agree with you butthey are finding it hard to keep it going and people are stealing from them so just show them some love and support!!!

antoinetta · 11/07/2024 15:57

A near neighbour has recently signed up for these milk deliveries. I'm not mentioning the time because it disturbs us, as it doesn't, but they're always delivered between 1-2 am. I thought that seemed rather early.

KThompson · 29/07/2024 17:11

Signed up with Modern MIlkman at door without checking reviews with a pleasant enough chap and he was training two others at time so I was as cooperative as poss. Took £12 something for my first order for Friday, Monday and Wednesday and only recived Fridays order. Nothing came on Monday. Now I am getting notifications saying more money is being taken from my card as well for these invisible items. Have cancelled my card on app. Facebook customer care are practically non existent and dont reply either. Not a good start. Will sue them if they take any more money from me.

Mountainpika · 29/07/2024 18:11

We've used Milk and More for years now. Glass bottles which I return for re-use. Never had a problem. Get other items from them as well. Good service.

Vixibeth · 07/08/2024 12:44

I've signed up, so far with just one bottle of oat milk on Thursdays. I also succeeded in getting some cream and some fizzy water on the 1st Saturday. We've got Hanover Dairies as well so didn't want to clash with them. However I'm completely unable to order anything more as it refuses to accept my basket. I got some silly advice about reloading an up to date app, but I don't do this off an app. I can't on my laptop and I don't want to off my phone. It's frustrating as they do offer a lot more than Hanover Dairies

Createausername1970 · 07/08/2024 13:04

I haven't heard of them.

I use Milk and More. Have had the occasional issue, but always sorted out via app or phone. Would happily recommend them - but there is no accounting for the individual drivers.
