Just a pre-dusk reminder to feed your local hedgehogs, bird and other wildlife. 🐿🦔🦉

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 14/10/2022 19:32

@Wheelyweddingwipedout that’s too cute. That hedgehog is very itchy 😆

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 15/10/2022 14:50

I joined the PTES after reading many of Prickles posts on this thread. They just sent an email through with an offer on their Christmas cards - 10% off if you use code ‘cards10’ at checkout. PTES

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 15/10/2022 22:24

Little bump for our hedgehog friends 🦔

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 19/10/2022 19:07

I’m now officially addicted to hedgehog street videos! Hibernation prepper

Halstead · 19/10/2022 21:25

Very sorry to hear your news, @Pricklesinperil and will be thinking of you.

Our first rescue case of the season.. too poorly for us to safely manage so now in the care of experts more experty than us… very poorly little mite at just a couple of hundred grams, and loaded with more lungworm and fluke than it can be expected to survive. Send hedgehugs this way, all!

@Wheelyweddingwipedout That’s one busy, healthy looking little hedgehog! And thanks for the PTES link - they have some lovely Christmas cards.

@Halstead Poor little thing. I hope he pulls through. I came across several last year out during the day around this time of year that needed taking to a rescue. None so far this year, but I keep my eyes peeled.

We haven’t had any evening visitors for a couple of nights but I’ll continue to put out food as I understand they still wake from hibernation now and again during winter and will head to their regular food source.

difficult to write this, you may remember I had a hospital stay earlier this year but sadly didn’t get the outcome I hoped for. I’m now in a hospice and won’t be around to keep this going. I hope the many wonderful posters can keep it going and create new threads about helping hedgehogs and wildlife in the future. With love Prickles x

I just noticed this. I am soooooo sorry. Flowers

AgathaMystery · 22/10/2022 14:59

@Pricklesinperil i am devastated to read your update. I only started feeding the hogs because I read your thread & was inspired by you & your love of hogs. Now we feed them every night - we have a whole troop! What’s the collective neon for hedgehogs? A prickle? It should be!

Anyway, I’m sending you all my love @Pricklesinperil - you leave an amazing legacy L. Hundreds of hedgehogs will come out of hibernation next year because of you. You’re brilliant x

MrsMAgain · 22/10/2022 15:38

Surely what you are experienced is a spike in hedgehogs, @AgathaMystery ? Wink

A group of hedgehogs is actually usually called a herd, an array or...a prickle! I now think a prickle is the best and that's what I'll use in future, in honour of @Pricklesinperil 🦔

BoneBonita · 22/10/2022 15:40

Aww disappointed, I thought this was another Bison thread 😞

Just seen this on LinkedIn - there’s a free online hedgehog evening on 17th November!

To ask you to please help hedgehogs and other wildlife prepare for winter
DowningStreetParty · 22/10/2022 21:55

I’m sending you all the very best Prickles
I thought our hogs had all gone in the hot days of summer, no shows for days, so stopped feeding them but kept up the water.
Just went outside tonight and saw a much smaller sized hog than the summer ones visiting our water bowl! So exciting. So have put cat food out too and it’s been eaten. I wouldn’t be feeding hogs at all if it wasn’t for you Prickles. Tonight’s youngling should definitely be named after you. Smile

Eckno · 23/10/2022 13:09

@DowningStreetParty Apparently once our hedgehogs have hibernated they will still come out to their regular food source throughout the winter. Also young or underweight hungry hedgehogs will travel longer distances now looking for food so you may end up with some newbies. So it’s worth continue putting food out.

If the hedgehog is very small & we have a cold snap it may not survive so worth keeping an eye on it or contacting a rescue for more advice.

DowningStreetParty · 23/10/2022 15:54

Thank you, great advice Eckno
I will keep feeding and keeping an eye on this new visitor- I would love it if they end up sticking around. Smile

Eckno · 23/10/2022 23:01

DowningStreet They probably will stick around if you are a reliable food source 🙂

Around this time of year there isn’t much in the way of natural food for them so they are dependent on us providing food for them for their survival.

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 25/10/2022 08:39

because of this thread by @Pricklesinperil i signed up to be a hedgehog champion and they sent an email today, Would everyone be ok if I started sharing them? They are full of info specific to the time of year - e.g this one gives advice about what @Eckno and @DowningStreetParty last posts were about

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 25/10/2022 08:40

And @Halstead
