difficult to write this, you may remember I had a hospital stay earlier this year but sadly didn’t get the outcome I hoped for. I’m now in a hospice and won’t be around to keep this going. I hope the many wonderful posters can keep it going and create new threads about helping hedgehogs and wildlife in the future. With love Prickles x

So sorry to hear your sad news @Pricklesinperil Flowers

blobby10 · 06/10/2022 13:04

@Pricklesinperil I'm so sorry to hear this - your thread and posts inspired me earlier this year to feed our visiting hog and doing so meant i got so many experiences that I just wouldn't have otherwise. You are a very inspirational lady and I wish you lots of love and hugs and ever lasting snuffles from our prickly friends😢

Blowyourowntrumpet · 06/10/2022 15:52

I'm so sorry to hear your news. You have inspired me and so many others to help and carry on helping hedgehogs and other wildlife.

DowningStreetParty · 06/10/2022 16:23

Oh Prickles. Sending you love from another internet stranger. Your concern for hedgehogs and wildlife will go from strength to strength on this lovely thread that you’ve built. I’m wishing you all the very best.

MrsMAgain · 07/10/2022 16:04

Dear @Pricklesinperil
I haven't posted for a while but have still been reading your very entertaining and helpful thread. You are an inspiration to those of us who try to do our own little bit for wildlife. I know that many little creatures, including hedgehogs of course, have been helped and will be helped going forward, because of you. Your warmth, caring, humour and encouragement towards wildlife and towards posters on the thread has been a delight and a joy to read. Thank you for all you have done for wildlife and thank you for sharing some of it with us. I know it has only been in a small way via this thread and others, but it is a joy to know you. I'll miss your posts on here. I am extremely sorry to hear your news. All my hopes and prayers are with you now and for the time ahead. Flowers

Dreikanter · 07/10/2022 23:29

Prickles, I’m very sorry to hear your news. I’m sure there are a lot of hedgehogs that have benefited from your kindness over the years, and many more will continue to do so from your advice here (and no doubt elsewhere). 🦔

Eckno · 09/10/2022 08:13

@Pricklesinperil I’m so sorry.

Your post has been an inspiration and support. Your patience, kindness and obvious love for wildlife shines through on every reply.

I have really enjoyed reading the updates from everyone. A rare genuine thread of positivity where everyone is trying to do their best for wildlife. More than once, after seeing your thread pop up, I’ve remembered to run outside to fill up the hedgehog bowl. Without a doubt, many hedgehogs have benefitted from your support and advice over the years, and certainly this summer.

Thinking of you 💐

Got a great pic of my one, it was quite chilled just sat there when I went out to feed..

Lovely picture @Lonelycrab

My hedgehogs keep beating me to their feeding station. They are getting earlier and earlier!

Also thinking of you @Pricklesinperil 💕

Lonelycrab · 11/10/2022 10:48

Cheers Eckno, was a bit like that last night for me as it goes, went out about 830 and s/he was kinda mingling about in my garden as if to say “where’s my dinner”Grin

Its getting really big though! So hopefully a good amount of body fat for hibernating. Either that or they’ll be a new litter, although it’s getting late now…

Eckno · 11/10/2022 21:26

That’s great it is a good size. The one I’ve seen in my garden is also looking pretty healthy. I have to get out there before 7pm now!

MrsMAgain · 13/10/2022 13:07

The mornings and evenings are getting a bit chilly here now! To a queue forming, I've been out these past few days filling the hanging bird feeders with seed. Seed is the cheapest, attracts a wide variety of birds and a big sack of it is the most cost-effective and lasts for a good wee while. Peanuts, meal worms, raisins and sunflower hearts are more of a treat as they are more expensive - to be dished out when it's colder, natural food is getting sparse or they've been good, like not pooping on the cars and laundry for a while! That reminds me I need to order some suet blocks too, ready for winter. No frozen water here yet to break the ice and replace with fresh. We try to use small local suppliers whenever possible, but even Tesco will deliver bird supplies with grocery orders. Their 12.5kg sacks of seed are currently £8.75 and suet blocks £1.05:

Afternoon all.

@Pricklesinperil, we're so incredibly sorry to hear your update and send all our love and best wishes from MNHQ. Flowers

What an inspiring thread this is, full of advice and love for our spiky little friends. We hope that other MNers will both continue the discussion and also carry on your good work.

Sending much love and UnMumsnetty, prickly hugs to you @Pricklesinperil. 🐾🦔 ❤

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 13/10/2022 14:45

Oh @Pricklesinperil, I haven’t posted for a while but I do read the thread. Your love for wildlife is inspirational and I’m sure you’ve helped so many hedgehogs with this thread. Of course we’ll keep it going if you can’t and hopefully save some more or them.
Much love, best wishes and thanks Flowers

By the way I still haven’t had any hedgehog visitors but I’m not giving up, the feeding box I made is still in the garden (as is the hedgehog hibernation house) and I put out food every evening. I’m hoping now the weather is getting a bit chilly they will find my garden and the all-inclusive feast therein. The foxes, birds and random cats love it even if the hogs don’t!!

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 13/10/2022 20:19

A gentle reminder for people to put some water out and a spot of food for our hedgehog friends 🦔 💦

RichardOsmansXraySpecs · 13/10/2022 20:21

Eckno · 13/10/2022 21:25

I don’t think I’m getting quite so many visitors as there is now a little food left over. I hope they are all tucked up somewhere nice and warm. I did get a hedgehog house but I don’t think it’s been used.

@MrsMAgain, that’s great value for the bird seed. Thank you for posting. Will add to my next shop.

Wheelyweddingwipedout · 14/10/2022 00:28

Just found this live hedgehog cam!

I am sorry to read that. Remember, it’s the ripples you made in the pond of life; that will have benefited the lives of so many animals! 🦔🦔

Gorse · 14/10/2022 15:30

So sorry to learn of your bad news 😓, Prickles. You can rest in the certain knowledge that your love and concern for hedgehogs has inspired many, and that more people will now step up for wildlife. No mean feat! I salute you and wish you well 💗
