Do you believe in the paranormal..??

So I know this is VERY controversial.. but I have just had an experience I cannot explain.

I was in the living room, tv on and relaxing on my own. I am the only one in my house tonight. DP is working away so I've settled in for a night in front of the telly to catch up on rubbish tv Grin

Anyway. I was relaxing alone when I saw what I can only explain to be a gentleman, wearing long overalls leaning up against the kitchen door, back towards me. He looked completely real, solid.. not the way you expect a typical ghost to look 🤣😅

Anyway. I sat there, completely frozen. I didn't know what to do, just in complete shock. I blinked and rubbed my eyes so many times thinking at some point, this man would go. But no. He stood there still, facing away from me.

Eventually he turned slowly to face me.. but in this effortless glide. Does that make any sense?! It was like the hand on a clock, just a smooth motion. It was really strange.. he looked right at me, in the eye.. smiled and disappeared just as quickly as he appeared.

I am dumbfound!! I've never experienced anything like it before. I don't know what to think. Am I going mad?! I'm not tired, haven't been drinking... I'm so confused! What could this mean?!

I'm sleeping here alone tonight. I don't think I want to! Blush

Yes, I’ve been ghosted many times.

Hugasauras · 18/05/2022 19:39

I'd mention it to a doctor, personally. Hallucinations can be a sign of various things and if you really did see a person who appeared and then disappeared, my first thought wouldn't be paranormal but some sort of illness or health condition.

HeadToToesNo · 18/05/2022 19:42

You should listen to the Uncanny podcast on BBC sounds - I don't believe in the paranormal but there are certainly things in this world beyond logical explanation!

orwellwasright · 18/05/2022 19:43

Weird things happen. Sometimes a rational explanation isn't immediately forthcoming. Ghosts do not exist.

OlympicProcrastinator · 18/05/2022 19:46

Yes I do and the great thing about my experience was that it was witnessed by someone else. A friend and me were in a dark bedroom laughing really loudly and suddenly a ball of light appeared in the middle of the room and a sound like a gunshot went off, as if someone was angry at us for the noise we were making. Not near any electrics, no bulbs gone. And the ball of light was inexplicable. We both heard and saw it so wasn’t me going mad.

Oysterbabe · 18/05/2022 19:46

Either you dozed off without realising or had a hallucination, in which case maybe seeing your GP is a good call.

This, book an appointment with your GP tomorrow but if it happens again tonight call 111 (but don't mention ghosts use hallucination) x

FourTeaFallOut · 18/05/2022 19:48

With no other qualification other than watching too much Grey's Anatomy, I'd say get yourself to the doctors.

Alcibiade · 18/05/2022 19:49

Strongly recommend that you should give your GP a call in the morning.

rollwiththetimes · 18/05/2022 19:49

Thanks all. I will call the GP tomorrow. I've never ever had anything like this happen before. As I say, not tired, not drinking or on any medication.. not stressed. It's very very odd.

I'd be open to the thought of the paranormal world existing. I must say I feel rather creeped out!

I totally believe you, some things happen that people just can't accept, try and take some good from your experience, I would love it to happen to me, try and research ur house a bit and see what the history is of the house, and the land and surrounding areas. U are privileged to have this happen, and it definitely seems to have been a peaceful showing, not someeone unhappy or trying to frighten u.
Well jell lol.

Crankley · 18/05/2022 19:50

I don't believe in the paranormal and I'm guessing you dozed off and had a dream.

Denny?! That's what prompted me too!

rollwiththetimes · 18/05/2022 19:52

I'm currently online, trying to find out what the history of the house is. All I know is the house is a 'wing' of a manor house around 1/2 a mile from us. It's a home over 390 years old!

Absolutely not.

Either you fell asleep or something else is going on if you're absolutely sure you saw what you think you did.

Yeah, they strung that whole thing out for too long - but it was memorable for its endless whinging tedium. Still watched it though.

Aprilx · 18/05/2022 19:57

Unlike many mumsnetters, I do believe in the afterlife and spirits and in rare occasions, encounters. I have never read about an encounter like that before and I do think you were imagining it or were semi asleep or something.

Wagsandclaws · 18/05/2022 20:18

Maybe you dozed off.

I believe you though. I grew up in a house where many, many things happened witnessed by friends, family and now the people who bought it after us ( they stayed there for 17 years though and it's now for sale ) .

By all means give the GP a call though just incase. I can't imagine if you were physically rubbing your eyes several times to see if he would disappear then he moved ( glided ) that you were imagining it though.

I know that things can happen that can't be explained, I'm the first person to be rational and look for other explanations but when it's being witnessed at the same time by other people too then you just can't.

WildFlowerBees · 18/05/2022 20:30

Yes I've seen plenty of things, not hallucinating, don't dance around stones on a full moon am not very woo. You'll have to trust your gut on whether or not you think you saw something paranormal.

2022again · 18/05/2022 20:34

Having a couple of family members who see spirits and having had a number of experiences myself, perhaps it was a ghost, who knows! I once worked in a psychiatric hospital and 2 of the psychiatrists had a very interesting discussion about whether seeing ghosts like this should always be considered a hallucination (their opinion was opposite to each other!). It's unusual to have a first experience when you are an adult but if you don't feel ill/unwell, don't bother the GP with it, they're not exactly going to do anything!!! just embrace the unexpected things life can throw at you!

TheVolturi · 18/05/2022 20:34

If I saw this I'd instantly think it was an intruder and I'd freak!!

fairytwinkletastic · 18/05/2022 20:38

I would say GP, however I would also say that I saw my neighbour in a similar way outside his house looking at his roses on the day of his funeral. Our other neighbour was with me and saw him too. No idea.

Herani · 18/05/2022 20:49

Yes, I do. This is based on experiences I had that meant I changed my mind from non-believer to believer. But I do believe in discounting most of what you ‘think’ you saw/heard and look for a logical explanation first.

Elphame · 18/05/2022 21:01

Well I've seen a man walk up to my bedroom door and then turn into the other bedroom. I thought it was DP at first but then realised he was out.

I really wouldn't bother the GP for one event. Maybe if it starts happening regularly and you start to see more things then look for a medical condition.

Much as non believers enjoy scoffing “there are more things in heaven and earth, (Horatio) than are dreamt of in your philosophy"
