Do you believe in the paranormal..??

So I know this is VERY controversial.. but I have just had an experience I cannot explain.

I was in the living room, tv on and relaxing on my own. I am the only one in my house tonight. DP is working away so I've settled in for a night in front of the telly to catch up on rubbish tv Grin

Anyway. I was relaxing alone when I saw what I can only explain to be a gentleman, wearing long overalls leaning up against the kitchen door, back towards me. He looked completely real, solid.. not the way you expect a typical ghost to look 🤣😅

Anyway. I sat there, completely frozen. I didn't know what to do, just in complete shock. I blinked and rubbed my eyes so many times thinking at some point, this man would go. But no. He stood there still, facing away from me.

Eventually he turned slowly to face me.. but in this effortless glide. Does that make any sense?! It was like the hand on a clock, just a smooth motion. It was really strange.. he looked right at me, in the eye.. smiled and disappeared just as quickly as he appeared.

I am dumbfound!! I've never experienced anything like it before. I don't know what to think. Am I going mad?! I'm not tired, haven't been drinking... I'm so confused! What could this mean?!

I'm sleeping here alone tonight. I don't think I want to! Blush

So I’m on the fence about this kind of thing. You take your pick which out of my 2 stories below you think is more likely to be happening. Both are true (the second one happened to me).

My aunt believes in the paranormal, but she’s firmly in the closet about it, depending on who is asking. She once told my mum she had the weirdest sensation when visiting her husband’s boss at his birthday gathering. The birthday boy in question (in his 60’s) after the party finished went to say goodbye to them at the door, they shook hands goodbye. Upon shaking my aunt’s hand, she felt a cold shiver run through her body and she thought to herself “I will never see this man alive again”. She told my mum the following day and how she’d been unable to sleep that night. My mum told her to ignore it, it wasn’t anything. Two later the man died, sudden heart attack.
…..

The second story happened to myself so as far as I can recollect, this is what happened.
I had just finished putting the kids to bed, husband had gone upstairs in the bath. For whatever reason I hadn’t turned the tv on, I was instead flicking through my phone and reading. A sudden change of atmosphere made me glance up. It was as if the room had got dimmer, darker … and there was 100% someone else there with me. As I glanced around me, I saw a light come into the room. It was as if someone had opened a door from the spirit world and there she was - my deceased mother. My mouth literally fell to the floor as I stared at her, the woman I have loved most of all humans, stare back at me. For a second all we did was look at each other. Tears started rolling down my eyes … was she really here?!
In what felt like forever, what I can only describe as a medium was used in order for us to interact with one another. It felt like Angel wings, moving around the room. They would sway lightly for yes and faster for no. She told me she was always with me, that she was watching my children grow up like I’d always wanted. It was the most magical moment of my life to date.

The first story is a retold encounter my aunt has only ever shared with my mum back in the day, long before I lost her. But my mum never lied, she was the most honest person I’ve ever met.
It’s entirely up to you if you believe in that sort of thing.

The second story, that happened to me. It was the beginning of one of the worst experiences of my life. It was the beginning of psychosis, a severe mental health breakdown which introduced me to many voices, including making me believe I was God’s right hand man. I lost over 3 years of my life to this episode and I don’t think I will ever truly be the same again.

Believe whatever you will Op, it certainly is very interesting. But just be very cautious that the brain can malfunction temporarily and it can get very dark, very fast. Look after yourself.

Thanks everyone. Checked our history of the house and can confirm that a couple unfortunately died on the land the house is built on. The house is over 390 years old.. it's also built around .3 of a mile from a cemetery so I'm not sure really what to think.

I doubt that's the only people recorded that has died on / near the land / house, it is very old.

Anything that's out of the ordinary, I usually attribute to having a scientific basis, just that either it's currently unexplained or some scientists know, but the research or beings etc, are kept classified.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/05/2022 21:29

I mean, I'm sure over 390 years you'd be hard pressed to find a spot where someone hadn't died, tbf.

TheZeppo · 18/05/2022 21:34

@Vallmo47 what an interesting post!

I hope you well again now- thank you for sharing, I found that v powerful.

LeftFootForward · 18/05/2022 21:35

@Vallmo47 that's very interesting and thought provoking, thank you for sharing and I hope you are much better now.

If you don't mind me asking do you have any idea what triggered your psychotic episode ?

Ocsetldil · 18/05/2022 23:50

Was it Derek Acorah?

Kanaloa · 19/05/2022 00:10

No, I don’t. I do believe in the extreme power of the human mind though. So I believe that our minds can make us ‘see’ something which isn’t truly there.

Kanaloa · 19/05/2022 00:17

Elphame · 18/05/2022 21:01

Well I've seen a man walk up to my bedroom door and then turn into the other bedroom. I thought it was DP at first but then realised he was out.

I really wouldn't bother the GP for one event. Maybe if it starts happening regularly and you start to see more things then look for a medical condition.

Much as non believers enjoy scoffing “there are more things in heaven and earth, (Horatio) than are dreamt of in your philosophy"

Hamlet, who speaks that quote, had a loose grip on sanity and either directly or indirectly caused the deaths of almost everyone in the play. He talks to a skull and spends the entire play rambling around trying to kill a man in the most convoluted fashions when he could have just bashed his head in on day one. If I was looking for a literary quote to lend authority to the idea of the paranormal I wouldn’t go for a character who I wouldn’t believe if he told me the sky was blue.

WeAllHaveWings · 19/05/2022 00:21

You thought there was a real man outside your door and your response was too blink and rub your eyes lots of times, not grab a phone and call the police?

I think you nodded off.

This. I screamed so loud I terrified the cat and made her fall off the end of the bed, when something I didnt even see leapt through my open bedroom window and knocked all my crap on the floor.
(Bloody night squirrels! 😂)

No way do you just gaze calmly at a strange man in your home unless it's a dream.

LicoricePizza · 19/05/2022 01:57

@Vallmo47 I found this very affecting too. MH is so complex & life shattering when it fails on us. Wishing you continued health & wellbeing 💐

RingRingRed · 19/05/2022 02:07

Yes I do. I think those that don't are pretty arrogant to think humans are it in this world 😂

Katkincake · 19/05/2022 05:49

I’m on the fence.

Absolutely hated visiting and stopping at my grandparents place as a kid, as an adult I found out that my very stoical grandparents often had visits from spirits. Thankfully they moved around a lot so were only there a few yrs, so future houses were fine.

Last year I had an episode where I suddenly felt like I was waking up to a different reality, like in the Matrix film. It felt so real, and I was left feeling like this life is false. Had several more episodes. Turned out to be Epilepsy, diagnosed at 44.

I’m with others who’ve suggested it, get a GP appointment our brains can do some crazy things.

whymewhyme · 19/05/2022 06:06

Yes absolutely, I've written on here before about my experiances most recently she called my childs name and he answered!!!

Tamzo85 · 19/05/2022 06:07

@rollwiththetimes

Yes. Ghosts are 100% real. I was once staying at a 15th century villa in Spain and I saw a man all decked out in old fashioned clothes. Like yours he wasn’t see through, but looked totally real.
I was walking into one of the rooms and he was just standing in their leaning up against the wall, drinking from a bottle, he gave me a quizzical look for a moment and then kind of nodded his head in a dashing way like he was acknowledging me. We stood there for a moment and he disappeared. Not like a fade out or anything like in the movies but just there and then not.

Weird thing is it didn’t really seem that disturbing or scary, or like he was unhappy, more seemed like he was just checking in on the place or somehow lived there on a different plane and just wanted to give a wink to the current occupants. I was wide awake and it wasn’t a dream but afterward I felt calm more like I’d had a good dream rather than a disturbing one. That’s the only way I can describe it.

Mary loves dick

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 19/05/2022 06:26

Years ago at work I saw a women walk into one of the residents bedrooms (nursing home) she never had any visitors other than her son so I walked down the corridor and went into the room

No one there other than the lady who's room it was who said she went through there and pointed at the wall. She looked as surprised as me .

Lemonsandlimez · 19/05/2022 07:02

Usually I'd say no, maybe you've dreamt it...

But recently we've had clear whistles - like an actual tune- in the kitchen on three occasions while I've been in alone, my two year old crying and saying no man whilst staring at our lounge door... And my 4 year old running in excitedly from the garden two days ago, because he'd just seen "daddy" upstairs in our bedroom window... His dad was at work!

Who knows! Hope you aren't hallucinating tho!

Vallmo47 · 19/05/2022 07:02

Aww thank you to those who replied to my story, I did not intend to hijack the thread. I’m fully recovered now thank you. The episode itself lasted about 4 months before medication finally kicked in entirely. The voices gradually went. It was very strange for the following 3 years though, how I just wasn’t myself. I went through a lot of depression and anxiety. A lot of people can never come off the psychosis medication after something like this, but in my case it was determined I was cured. I do have to be very careful about stress now as we think this triggered it. I’m terrible controlling my emotions when I get upset, I get all red in the face and just cannot calm down. So I have to be conscious of that and remove myself before it gets too bad. The year my episode occurred I had decided to learn to drive, it was something I’d feared my entire life. I had many sleepless nights and was incredibly stressed about it. I’m not saying this will happen to everyone who gets stressed obviously but my brain reacted in this way.

OP again sorry to hijack. It’s interesting what you wrote about the house. I hope you managed to get some sleep and wasn’t too worried about what you saw.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 19/05/2022 07:19

OP why not be honest with MN you've clearly decided it's paranormal, people have died in most places we spend time, why aren't we then surrounded by ghosts of animals and people, or is it only people that come back as ghosts if that's the case why are there so many tales of ghost pets, so again why aren't we surrounded at all times by the ghosts of billions of people and animals that have died since the beginning of time, it's why I don't believe in any of this paranormal bunkum, so what's your AIBU?

IncompleteSenten · 19/05/2022 07:22

Yes, see your GP because you had a hallucination.

rollwiththetimes · 19/05/2022 07:30

Thanks all! Lots of mixed views which I fully expected. I can honestly hand on heart tell you I was fully awake at the time, but as got what I saw? Who knows. It's certainly interesting.

Moonmelodies · 19/05/2022 07:31

No, it's one thing to say you saw something that you can't explain, but another to assume you are seeing reanimated dead people (and their restored clothes).

rollwiththetimes · 19/05/2022 07:39

I definitely did see something that I can't explain. As for how he looked, it's just what I saw.
