Neighbour knocking to find parcel

Dotdotdot21 · 17/05/2022 23:24

Just had an unknown man knock at my door claiming his parcel had been delivered to my house .
He lives in the road behind . He was looking at his phone and claims app said parcel was delivered to here.
when I asked what the parcel was he said furniture.
I was polite but after he had gone I am
thinking why would I take furniture in for a house in the next street for someone I don’t know? Have I just been accused of stealing ? The app clearly never said a number but the map on it directed it to our house.
Am I being unreasonable to be annoyed.

Furniture is not a parcel 🤔
How weird?!!

Kite22 · 17/05/2022 23:30

Hardly worth getting annoyed about.
The App told him it was at your house, so, however weird that might be, it makes sense for him to double check it isn't before going back to the company.
Nothing to get worked up about.

Ihatethenewlook · 17/05/2022 23:35

Who are you annoyed at exactly? Hopefully not him as you’ve clearly seen yourself that he’s been directed to your house by the app. It is a bit of a strange situation as you live in different streets, but he’s not being unreasonable by knocking at the house he’s been told his parcel is at (and furniture can definitely be a parcel, I’m ordering a flat pack tv cabinet this week that will come as a parcel). Unless he’s actually accused you of stealing it then he’s not really implying that you have.

Dotdotdot21 · 17/05/2022 23:40

Kite22 would you take furniture in for someone you didn’t know in a road behind your house ? Who would do that ?
That would be weird, I’m not a neighbour , I’m in the next street .
The app Is clearly not accurate if it’s showing the parcel here. The whole thing is odd .

I’m annoyed at the app . I don’t usually open the door so late to strangers. Glad I did as he would be thinking his parcel in my house.

Flat pack furniture would come in a parcel. I got a nest of tables delivered yesterday and the parcel was surprisingly small, now I'm looking at them after being built.

EdaYildiz · 17/05/2022 23:46

That is weird BUT I can share that I work for a company and sometimes our parcels get delivered to the wrong address and the customer care team does advise to knock on the door of the delivery address if they can identify it in the delivery picture - a little health & safety risk if you ask me but couriers are in such a rush these days and people are dishonest so I wouldn't be surprised if it was delivered to the wrong address and someone else decided to keep it instead... taking a furniture delivery for someone on the road behind would be a little odd though.

thevanilla · 17/05/2022 23:48

you’re annoyed at the app? Grin

it’s not that weird OP, move on with your life

Ihatemyjob22 · 17/05/2022 23:52

He knocked at 11pm? Seems fishy

Dotdotdot21 · 17/05/2022 23:53

I have plenty going on in my life thanks . No need to be rude .

Sure he wasn't a burglar checking whether someone was in?

Yet you’re so convinced that this man and the app have accused you of ‘stealing’ you posted a thread about it? you asked if you are being unreasonable. You are. HTH.

Dotdotdot21 · 17/05/2022 23:57

There was no delivery picture - he was looking at his phone the whole time to see where the app pinpointed the parcel.

OP posts:
Dauncets · 17/05/2022 23:57

Sounds dodgy OP.

Dotdotdot21 · 17/05/2022 23:59

This is a mumsnet thread ! Wow light hearted, It minimal effort to post a thread . You sound very angry are you Ok ?

I just wondered if others had experience of delivery apps that pin point parcels . I know Amazon take photos but never heard of this . And I guess furniture could be a small box but just odd. If it was a neighbour I might understand.

OP posts:
Dotdotdot21 · 18/05/2022 00:04

He didn’t look dodgy , looked a nice guy . He apologised and said he would ring the company.

Well if you come back home from work tomorrow and find your coffee table has gone then we'll know who was right, won't we?

How? Genuine question as it seems to me at least that the man has been tracing the delivery via an app that he showed to the op.

toomuchlaundry · 18/05/2022 00:14

Not all deliveries are actually handed to people though, sometimes they are left in a ‘safe place’ eg recycling box, not so safe on rubbish collection day! So could have been put somewhere in your garden etc. So it is possible someone has inadvertently taken in someone else’s parcel even if not close neighbours.

Happened with a parcel of mine, which Hermes threw over the fence of a house 4 streets down from me, which had same house number and door (same development) but different street name. So photo of door and house number looked like mine. Person hadn’t realised as elderly and disabled and hadn’t been in her garden and seen the parcel in the safe place ie over the garden fence

milkyaqua · 18/05/2022 00:18

What's he doing knocking on a stranger's door at 11 o'clock at night asking after his delivery? That in itself is odd.

Cluelessmouse · 18/05/2022 00:21

if the app says it’s delivered to your house
what do you want him to do? Just let you keep it? Or should he assume the app is wrong and that his parcel has disappeared into thin air?

No idea what you’re annoyed at? That an underpaid overworked delivery driver in a rush has marked a location wrong? And it caused you 30 seconds of inconvenience?

Dotdotdot21 · 18/05/2022 00:26

It wasn’t as late as 11 it was earlier I just didn’t post straight away. 9.30 ish. Anyway I’m now worried they could be in a bin ? Will look on the morning . But wouldn’t think furniture would fit in ? I did look in back garden.

OP posts:
thevanilla · 18/05/2022 00:28

yes fine thanks, are you?

Dotdotdot21 · 18/05/2022 00:32

yes I’m annoyed with a delivery company for that tells its customer I have their parcel.
Im allowed to be annoyed sorry if that offends you , suggest you stay off AIBU and calm down
