To ask you to give me a new surname?

Marriages/divorces (my own and parents), deed poll and other circumstances mean that I am currently on my fourth surname.
Each surname has belonged to a different man, a father, a stepfather, a husband etc. Not having had a particularly good relationship with any of them, I have never felt that any of these names belonged to me.
I want to change my surname. I want a name that belongs to me.
Any suggestions?

Tell us something about yourself.

Oooo, not sure I could cope with the responsibility. Have you read any of Cheryl Strayed's stuff? She invented her surname after a divorce, I think it's cool!

I used to live next door to a Mr and Mrs Sunshine, which I thought was great (although he was a miserable bugger)

Choose something that makes you feel happy when you think of it or say it. It sounds as though none of your previous names have done that for you, so it’s time to assert your you-ness.

Does your mother/grandmother have a nice surname or variant that you like?

MRex · 16/05/2022 20:40

Where were you born? Take the place name.

I used to have customers with the surnames Snowball and Mountain. Devasted that my DH and I didn’t both change our surname to Snowball-Mountain when we got married

What about a grandmother's middle name? Then you've got a link to your female line.

BornBlonde · 16/05/2022 20:49

Can you share your first name?

growon · 16/05/2022 20:49

I'd look back in my own family tree and see if there was something there.

Do you have a favourite singer or actor? After my divorce I chose the surname of my favourite singer. Yea, it's a bit sad but it makes me happy and it's hurting no one.
