He seems to be have been mayor for a very, very, very long time now. Has he got the job for life ? Does anybody know ?

Strange post. London mayoral elections are every 4 years. If the tories aloe Lib Dem’s (or any other party) field a candidate voters prefer, they’ll be elected.

Househunting21 · 04/05/2022 19:06

Ken Livingstone was in for eight years (two terms), as was Boris Johnson. Sadie was elected in 2016 and reelected for a second term last year. So no.

Maybebabyno2 · 04/05/2022 19:06

Sorry my crystal ball is on the fritz

mynameiscalypso · 04/05/2022 19:07

Boris was mayor for longer than Sadiq has been mayor.

SarahShorty · 04/05/2022 19:07

His second term was extended from 4 years to 5 years because of covid. First term was extended as I said, second term is only 3 years because of the extension to the first. Guaranteed he'll be gone in 2024 simply because he can only serve two terms.

jgw1 · 04/05/2022 19:07

Is what you are saying that Boris Johnson has so annoyed the voters in London that there is no chance of anyone other than Labour winning the city in the foreseeable future?

Frazzled2207 · 04/05/2022 19:07

Did you really not realise he was elected 🙄

Wiglio · 04/05/2022 19:08

Hope not

Crankley · 04/05/2022 19:09

Ugh no.

"His second term was extended from 4 years to 5 years because of covid" Sorry, that is supposed to say first term. It's been a long day.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 04/05/2022 19:16

He gets a shitload of death threats, so I'm not sure he'll really want to be in politics for the rest of his life.

jcyclops · 04/05/2022 20:06

"Guaranteed he'll be gone in 2024 simply because he can only serve two terms."

There is no limit to the number of terms a mayor can serve, despite much talk of introducing a two-term maximum. Ken Leninspart served two terms 2000-2008 and then stood and lost in 2008 and in 2012.

Snowraingain · 04/05/2022 20:19

He gets so much hate. He has to have a lot of security and is under constant risk. My oh worked with him for years and has nothing but lovely things to say about him.
I think he has an uphill struggle because the tories are so adult to him. He wanted to do things in central london which have been blocked by Westminster council.
He gets a lot of grief and I have no idea why he continues when he has to live like he lives.

shaun Bailey the tory contender was partying with billionaires when we were in lockdown. He was funded by Lord Ashcroft - a really unpleasant man and nick candy - who recently went to hang out with Nigel garage and trump. If you think either candy or Ashcroft wanted london to be better for ordinary people then you’re an idiot.

Snowraingain · 04/05/2022 20:19

Not adult - awful ffs

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 04/05/2022 20:23

Good anything to annoy Boris and the nasty party.

Not unjustifiably

Smileyaxolotl1 · 04/05/2022 20:30

unfortunately I think he will be in a long time.
Absolutely vile person who pisses money up the wall constantly for his own self promotion.
His PR budget quadrupled what Johnson spent. He may have done a few good things for central London (not sure what they are) but he is a disaster for Greater London. The only thing he seems to do is want to introduce more fines and charges for motorists which are merely a tax on ordinary people.I think they should split the job into an inner London mayor and a Greater London one, then khan can continue wasting money and people in Greater London won’t have to pay for him.

Yes let’s get more cars. Just what London needs. Have a little Google of the name Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah

johnson spent £40 million on a garden bridge - where oh where is that money because there is no bridge?!
he gave over £250,000 to his mistress
he never turned up for meetings and if he did he hadn’t been bothered to read his brief. He made up gibberish in speeches and let’s not forget decided to support brexit which has truly f*ed london.
shawn Bailey would have been in the pockets of billionaires and they don’t give a f about anyone but themselves.

do the cars of rich people cause less pollution and congestion than those of poor people then?

Can get a good deal on 2nd hand water cannons though

Ratrick · 04/05/2022 21:34

What a very odd post.

Of the three people who have ever held the office, he is currently the one who has served for the shortest period (admittedly, that will cease to be the case if he serves for the duration of his current term).

No.
And even tories have to breathe in the same crap air as the rest of us poor mortals. Shocking I know!!

Longleggedgiraffe · 04/05/2022 22:16

Yes, YABU. At some point he will be voted out. Although it can seem a lifetime, it isn't. You can always take an active part in the next Mayoral elections and help to Campaign against him, or you can do nothing and let others decide whether he gets in or not.

Momicrone · 04/05/2022 22:17

Smiley - given there are a high percentage of people who live in london who don't own cars, not sure his ''charges and fines for motorists' is a tax on 'ordinary people'
