He seems to be have been mayor for a very, very, very long time now. Has he got the job for life ? Does anybody know ?

@Zilla1 😅 but also, God, I wish I could write like you. Brain's gone to jelly these days.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 06/05/2022 14:52

And the idea that Khan doesn’t waste money on ridiculous things. Seriously most of you know absolutely fuck all don’t you?
It’s really quite embarrassing how I’ll informed you are.

You think public art is a waste of money. Ok.

Zilla1 · 06/05/2022 15:24

@Wilkolampshade I'm sure you write brilliantly.

Not about you but I'm frequently astonished at the admirable simplicity of some of the PPs. I'm envious of people able to easily deploy strong opinions.

Zilla1 · 06/05/2022 15:27

That art, a clear waste of money. Unless it is made of blocks that could be used to form a larger structure, perhaps a bridge from somewhere to somewhere else. Then obviously inspired, if it was originally by the PM, or else clearly a poundstore knock off if by the current Mayor.

Momicrone · 06/05/2022 16:26

Smileyaxol, I really hope his policies get more people out of cars, ordinary or not. Inner cities should be and can be car free, its the way forward.

GregBrawlsInDogJail · 04/05/2022 22:36

I live in Outer London and I'd prefer my air breathable, thanks. Supportive of all efforts to rid the city of petrol cars bit by bit. It's not like there aren't alternatives, many/most of them cheaper than private car ownership.

Well that's rubbish.
There is no alternative that costs less money than keeping your existing car so yes - the ULEZ charge unfairly penalises poorer Londoners.

Snowraingain
some people can’t just sell their car and suck it up, they have young children or have to carry equipment but selfish virtue signallers like you don’t give a shit about how these things affect normal, working people.

Odd how all myself, family, friends plus the very many people I see and have seen for decades can all manage to travel around inner London on public transport with young children.

Luckily Londoners have and will help you up and down stairs with buggies, give you seats and if no-one can give you a seat due to the crowds will help ensure your child(ren) don't fall over.

The equipment thing is shit but if you are a tradesmen you are well within your rights to (and most do) charge the client congest charge, ULEZ and parking.

People were given plenty of warning about the ULEZ and there were even grants at the time for new cars. If you couldn't afford a grant then like people I know including ones with equipment you either pay ULEZ or stop driving your car. (Though to be fair one got his converter nicked.)

oviraptor21 · 06/05/2022 16:51

Maybe you can't stop driving your car - maybe you need it for work. The zone comes out quite far. £12.50 a day is unaffordable for someone on UC for example.

Momicrone · 06/05/2022 16:52

Lots of trades people can and do use cargo bikes.

MarshaBradyo · 06/05/2022 17:03

I know a fair few people with dc in London without a car, by choice

we’ve had periods without one too

But owning and oversized Chelsea tractor and polluting the world is my right. As I need to demonstrate how much better I am than people who use public transport.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 06/05/2022 17:16

It’s really interesting to see that my earlier point has been thoroughly proved in this thread.
Lots of you talking about how people in inner London don’t have cars and can cope perfectly well without them etc.
but Khan is not just the mayor of inner London he’s the mayor of the whole of London and he is currently trying to extend the ULEZ outwards into areas which don’t have the public transport links that inner London does.
if he wants to make large areas of central London car free and those who live there don’t mind then fair enough.

It has been many years since I lived and worked in London. Back then it would have certainly been much nicer cycling to work near the M25 if there were fewer cars.

Smiley we are in the latest area that was included and some people have dropped cars due to it, not central London

Where are you thinking that will be more difficult? Do you have specific area in mind

grapewines · 06/05/2022 17:26

Google could have helped you there, OP. But then of course you wouldn't have got a thread slagging off Khan. Well done, I guess.

Smileyaxolotl1 · 06/05/2022 17:39

MarshaBradyo

there is talk of him making Bexley (and presumably Bromley) subject to a charge for those who drive in from Kent and also extending ULEZ into our areas.

Grantanow · 06/05/2022 17:44

Of course not.

Momicrone · 06/05/2022 17:54

Smiley, I was referring more to the point that he is adversely affecting ordinary people. Ordinary people live all over London.

The pollution from motor vehicles certainly affected me when I lived in London, but then I suppose I am probably and extraordinary person.

Excited to see what happens now Labour have control of Westminster. Hopefully they can implement some of the plans to pedestrianise Soho and Oxford Street.

Why do you want to ban disabled from central London?

Very bad of him if he does that. ULEZ thing has been very bad for disabled cos we need driving or cab. Should stop it and not do it in more places.

nosafeguardingadults · 06/05/2022 20:02

Think what happened in Bristol very good getting rid of having a mayor. Wish happened in London too. Nothing personal to Sadiq Khan. Mayor waste of money. Extra £300 on council tax, money could go to services needed instead.

You right and also there are disabled who live in inner London. Disabled we need cars or cabs.

Disabled Londoners shouldn't be forced out of London. Disabled need driving, cars or cabs.
