To boil and cool my baby's bath water?

Posting on AIBU for traffic as bathtime is fast approaching, sorry if it's not appropriate for this board!!

I was just FaceTiming my mum when I said in passing "ugh it's bath night tonight, I'd better start getting the kettle going soon" and she looked at me like I was stark raving mad and told me to just use tap water like any sane person would. I had a quick google and can only see stuff coming up advising cooled boiled water for wiping newborns' faces. My baby is 5 months old for reference. I'm struggling to actually remember where I even got the idea that it had to be boiled and cooled from.

So go on then, should I be boiling it or am I lost in the realm of 'PFB' and FTM anxiety?! 😁

Yes, sorry that’s mental 😂😂

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 04/05/2022 17:29

Is this serious? Confused

Krustykrabpizza · 04/05/2022 17:29

Well that is mad. How long does that take to get the bath ready?

Coolcoolcool · 04/05/2022 17:29

Hahahahha no surely this is a joke?

tap water is fine.

Chamomileteaplease · 04/05/2022 17:30

That is the funniest thing ever! I am so sorry that you have had 5 months of this work!

Run the taps and enjoy 😎

Yamaya · 04/05/2022 17:30

I've never heard of that before. Certainly never done it myself. Did you get confused with water for making milk or something?

Lotsofhoopsandloops · 04/05/2022 17:30

PFB in the kindest way.. never heard of it before and my 2 dc survived!

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 04/05/2022 17:30

Oh dear in the nicest way definitely PFB. I used to use cool boiled water to do face and eyes as a new born but not whole bath and not at all by 5 months.

your safe to go with just warm tap water now.

In fairness we've been using one of those little baths that you just fill and plonk baby in - I only have to do the kettle 3 times... only... 😬

Lol thats funny. One you'll laugh about second time around x

Gnomechange · 04/05/2022 17:30

I’ve certainly never done that! It does seem a bit mad! But let’s wait to see if I am corrected by other wiser posters.

Honaloulou · 04/05/2022 17:30

Sorry, but that's slightly hilarious Grin

No, you don't need to bath babies in boiled water. Or boil water to wash their faces, even when they're newborn!

If it works for you then go for it. But personally I'd find something more fun to do with my time.

Hallyup89 · 04/05/2022 17:30

Straight out of the tap is absolutely fine. I've never heard of anyone boiling and cooling bath water.

LockdownLisa · 04/05/2022 17:30

I've never heard that this is a thing, even for brand new babies! But you're certainly making me feel better about my PFB mentalness, so thank you.

Outafocus · 04/05/2022 17:31

Really, really unnecessary. I imagine your electricity bill will reduce a bit now!

ItWorriesMeThisKindofThing · 04/05/2022 17:31

There is no one else doing this - feel free to stop!

octoegg · 04/05/2022 17:31

Never heard of this. Assuming you don't get your water from a well or something?

Hugasauras · 04/05/2022 17:31

This is bonkers Grin Bless you

EmptyBites · 04/05/2022 17:31

Haha yes just use tap water. I think you are meant to use boiled cooled water to wipe a newborn's face because of the risk of eye infections. I've only just now started washing my baby's face with tap water (at 9 months) but for the bath definitely no need to boil a kettle..

5zeds · 04/05/2022 17:32

Totally silly but cute

TheUnexpectedPickle · 04/05/2022 17:32

Oh bless you! Your baby must have skin like Cleopatra!

At least you'll have a story for the PFB threads🤗

PragmaticWench · 04/05/2022 17:32

That's adorably bonkers. Your DC will be licking the floor very soon...

Glad to be of service 🤣

Fabulous thank you everyone, that's pretty unanimous- tonight the kettle can have a rest!! Will let you all know if baby survives 🤞🤣
