To boil and cool my baby's bath water?

Posting on AIBU for traffic as bathtime is fast approaching, sorry if it's not appropriate for this board!!

I was just FaceTiming my mum when I said in passing "ugh it's bath night tonight, I'd better start getting the kettle going soon" and she looked at me like I was stark raving mad and told me to just use tap water like any sane person would. I had a quick google and can only see stuff coming up advising cooled boiled water for wiping newborns' faces. My baby is 5 months old for reference. I'm struggling to actually remember where I even got the idea that it had to be boiled and cooled from.

So go on then, should I be boiling it or am I lost in the realm of 'PFB' and FTM anxiety?! 😁

Yep that's the crab! In my defence DH bought it, but I do find it useful as I like my baths really hot so genuinely might not be able to tell if a bath was too hot for a baby.

Op. I did some very odd things first time round. Second time someone asked me if I sterilised my dd's bowls when we started weaning at 6 months. My response was that as I had caught her with the dogs foot in her mouth that day it probably wasn't worth it!

😂This is so sweet, absolutely bonkers obviously, but super cute.

OP you do realise that germs can jump back into the water as it’s cooling down from boiling? Also you should never take your baby out in the rain.

(I’m taking the piss, but the first time round I sterilised anything that would touch the baby’s food, and freaked out that I couldn’t sterilise my pans properly)

I fully expect this thread to end up in some lifestyle column, OP. Brace yourself!

As the young people say, this is the content I'm here for... 😍

Actually the cold-before-hot advice isn't OTT - a bath full of boiling water is a real hazard. You might know it's there and be aware of it but at some point you have to leave it to get the next kettleful or whatever and anyone else coming along would NOT expect a bath to have boiling water in it. This is one safety rule I always followed when mine were little because a slightly too-cold bath is nothing compared to the potential life long damage from scalding.

Been boiling water for my baby’s shower every single day. It’s almost 8 months now😂😂😂😂. I don’t know where I got this idea as well😢. Am stopping ASAP

viques · 08/10/2023 20:21

It must take ages for the water to cool down unless you put in some cold tap water, oh hold on a minute!

TreacheryPepper · 10/10/2023 11:16

Out of interest, how do you boil water for a shower??

Pix56 · 10/10/2023 11:32

Zombie

I was replying to a comment left two days ago, not the OP.

A kettle to take the edge off a cold paddling pool, yes 😄
