Just returned from a short break in Sandhurst,. We travelled around whilst we were there (Farnborough, Wokingham, Aldershot etc) and are so impressed how green the area is with wooded areas,.nature walks and trees everywhere. The towns are well presented and there are a lot of outdoor activities to choose from.
It is bank holiday weekend but none of the activities were crowded. We would definitely choose this area for a holiday again AIBU

Is this a post on behalf of the Berkshire Tourist Board? What next, a weekend in tropical Wokingham? A tour around Bracknell’s finest roundabouts?

@MzHz, I don’t think it’s there any more, is it?

I live this thread 🤣🤣🤣

I think I've worked it out. She's either a KGB assassin covering her tracks or she's laying a trail of breadcrumbs for another KGB assassin to use to say "I went on a tour of these UK military bases because I saw a post on MN saying how scenic they are".

😂😂😂😂

There's a great vintage shop in Camberley but beyond that...🤷🏻

Ooh, where’s that? I love a good vintage shop but didn’t know there was one in Camberley!

Do have a spot of lunch at the local Wetherspoons next time, won't you? You wouldn't want to miss a refined dining experience with the cultured locals!

I can absolutely recommend the Gig House. Extra points if you spot someone ordering Stella at 9am.

Ha ha, that’s good! Extra points if they are over 20 😁

It is indeed lovely and green around here with lots of lovely areas to walk in.

Do I know you? Roccos garlic sticks are the best! My daughter still gets a bag whenever she goes back.

I actually did think of diverting there on the way home to get some after reading this...

CounsellorTroi · 01/05/2022 22:49

I thought this thread was going to be about the Military Training Academy.

boopedoopie · 01/05/2022 22:50

There's always the adge if you are feeling really adventurous Grin

TheDogsMother · 01/05/2022 22:51

For a holiday ??? Wouldn't be my first choice but I'm pleased you enjoyed it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/05/2022 23:26

You learn something new every day - I always thought Aldershot was posh Blush

Then again I holidayed in Chester le Street once; I'd never been to the area and thought it might be nice
Compared to that, Aldershot's probably a very eden

MrsToothyBitch · 01/05/2022 23:56

Are you quite alright OP? There is indeed some nice countryside round that area but the towns are nothing to write home about. In particular the area around Aldershit doesn't make up for Aldershit itself. It's not an area I'd choose for a holiday- and I've willingly visited Aldershit a few times- for the people, not the environs.

At least venture towards Farnham & Guildford! Much prettier!

LaurieFairyCake · 02/05/2022 00:20

Da fuck ConfusedConfusedConfused

I went to the Peak District last year on holiday - it's so gorgeous! Why the hell would you leave there to go to those shit holes???

Are you high? Are there good drugs in Sandhurst?

I went into Farnborough today to go shopping (Asda and Sports Direct) and couldn't believe how busy it was. Now I know why, it's been outed as a holiday destination.

😂

Blackwater has an Aldi with a Lidl opposite. I'm not sure what more you could ask for in a holiday destination.

This was my first thought too, that and the big M&S

There is no city near Sandhurst, the nearest one is probaby St Albans, unless you include the whole of the London area as a city

Guildford isn't far and is a nice town for shopping

Winchester, then Portsmouth or Southampton? Just down the M3?

BadLad · 03/05/2022 13:05

You learn something new every day - I always thought Aldershot was posh

In a league table of English shitholes, Aldershot is about Aston Villa level. Not challenging for the top - there are untouchably grim shitholes with the Champions League spots secured. But definitely in the top division, and ahead of its local rivals.

KirstenBlest · 03/05/2022 13:05

Winchester is about 35 miles from Sandhurst, So'ton just under 50. St Albans is about the same, my mistake. Pompey is slightly further

KirstenBlest · 03/05/2022 13:10

As someone who is familiar with going up and down the M3, Winchester isn't 'just down the M3', or it is but it's quite a hike

i've been to Aldershite times and completely failed to spot its tourist destination potential

DropYourSword · 03/05/2022 13:16

I've never been to any of these places but am pissing myself with laughter at this thread!

I love that one comment starting "Are you quite alright OP" is right beside the next one starting "Da fuck Confused" - that's the whole spectrum of confused response!

dawnc27 · 03/05/2022 13:21

are you all forgetting the top tourist spot that is BIRDWORLD? that alone is worth the journey...

DropYourSword · 03/05/2022 13:23

Also, I must admit I thought Sandhurst was a prison.
Although from some of the descriptions on here, a prison might actually be a better holiday destination!

KirstenBlest · 03/05/2022 13:24

ooh Blush, i've never been to Birdworld or Coral Reef

KirstenBlest · 03/05/2022 13:25

I've also not been to the dry ski slope in Aldershite or the onein Bracknell, if they are still there

KirstenBlest · 03/05/2022 13:26

@DropYourSword , Broadmoor is near Sandhurst. only about 2.5 miles
