Just returned from a short break in Sandhurst,. We travelled around whilst we were there (Farnborough, Wokingham, Aldershot etc) and are so impressed how green the area is with wooded areas,.nature walks and trees everywhere. The towns are well presented and there are a lot of outdoor activities to choose from.
It is bank holiday weekend but none of the activities were crowded. We would definitely choose this area for a holiday again AIBU

OP - have you tried Fleet services? The northbound side is quite a delight

Ah Camberley M&S. The stuff dreams are made of ...

GrinGrinGrin

I used to love it, but you have to make allowances - we lived in Mytchett Grin

So many sarcastic and negative comments. We really enjoyed our stay. Our home is the Peak District area

Er... no sorry, can't think of any other reasons to venture into that neck of the woods (geddit??)

PortiaFimbriata · 01/05/2022 18:39

Where do you live OP? Moss Side? Handsworth? Canning Town?

I love a bit of English countryside but honestly...

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 01/05/2022 18:40

Peak District is gorgeous. Bakewell tart, Chatsworth...

PortiaFimbriata · 01/05/2022 18:41

I think I've worked it out. She's either a KGB assassin covering her tracks or she's laying a trail of breadcrumbs for another KGB assassin to use to say "I went on a tour of these UK military bases because I saw a post on MN saying how scenic they are".

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/05/2022 18:45

Did any of the bushes move unexpectedly? Lots of repetitive bangs and explosions?

I mean, DH talks fondly of the year he spent in the area, but has never suggested a holiday there. Some of the holes in the ground were particularly comfy apparently.

Crikeyalmighty · 01/05/2022 18:57

Not nice to give the OP a hard time- its all relative and from where OP says she lives, it's probably a total change from hills and stone buildings . I'm actually a pretty fussy person where I live but have often had a good time/break in places others say they hate -

So if there’s a spate of poisonings in Finchampstead… <taps nose>

Talking of that area, maybe OP’s got confused between California Crossroads (never the same after Rusts went) and, you know, actual California?

SpouseHelp · 01/05/2022 19:05

Yes this clearly happened. People clearly escaped the Peak District for a tour of Aldershot.

Coral Reef isn’t bad if you have kids. Not worth the travel from the Peak District though.

VivienneDelacroix · 01/05/2022 19:10

I went to Aldershot once. Once.

Weepingwillows12 · 01/05/2022 19:12

To be fair, Sandhurst does have a dominos pizza AND a Herbie's. That impresses my 6 year old anyway.

LeFeu · 01/05/2022 19:16

My Nan used to go to camberly M&S before a special occasion if she needed a new blouse 😂

Maireas · 01/05/2022 19:17

You live in the Peak District, and you're impressed by the walks in the Sandhurst area?
You live in one of the loveliest parts of the UK, with some of the most breathtaking views, crystal clear rivers, unspoiled woodland, miles of hills and moorland and beautiful meadows.
You'll understand if we find this....strange.

AlistairCamel · 01/05/2022 19:18

I’m slightly south but similar area. It’s a strange place to go on holiday but I agree there’s some lovely woodland around aldershot. Glad you had fun

It’s a great M&S

JayAlfredPrufrock · 01/05/2022 19:19

Hills and stone buildings. Aye that’s the Peak District summed up.

fizzypop100 · 01/05/2022 19:20

@Maireas but our cities and towns are not. Going into Sheffield town centre is not a nice place anymore and I've lived here for 50 years.

I'm sure they would call themselves puddings 😀. Bakewell Puddings.

I know what you mean about Sheffield, but I thought she said she lived in the Peak District?
Anyway, each to their own, but it's a bit strange.

Interesting. I'm wondering if there isn't a good M&S in the Peak District area.
To be fair, the Chatsworth farm shop is good. Pricey, though.

Clymene · 01/05/2022 19:31

Did you go into the new shopping centre in Bracknell? That's pretty good.

This is why we should do house swaps. I'd love to go to the peak district and see hills and not the M4

Crikeyalmighty · 01/05/2022 19:31

If OP lives in Sheffield which she says she does- whilst it's got some lovely countryside very close on hand- personally (and I'm from about 20 miles away originally) I don't think it's a particularly nice city - and maybe somewhere like Wokingham with lots of wooded areas and nice walks on the flat- feels like a nice , slightly dull and relatively calm change with different activities . Whereas someone who lives in say Ascot might enjoy a weekend somewhere with a bit more culture and an 'edge' like say Liverpool or Manchester .
