Just returned from a short break in Sandhurst,. We travelled around whilst we were there (Farnborough, Wokingham, Aldershot etc) and are so impressed how green the area is with wooded areas,.nature walks and trees everywhere. The towns are well presented and there are a lot of outdoor activities to choose from.
It is bank holiday weekend but none of the activities were crowded. We would definitely choose this area for a holiday again AIBU

😂😅😂

QWE96 · 01/05/2022 19:36

OP, I'm not sure what you're smoking, but I'll have some of it 😂

Do have a spot of lunch at the local Wetherspoons next time, won't you? You wouldn't want to miss a refined dining experience with the cultured locals!

NotQuiteUsual · 01/05/2022 19:37

I went to a lovely cafe in Wokingham once.

Got pissed and had a kebab in a park in Camberley too. Lovely part of the country.

ReadyToMoveIt · 01/05/2022 19:40

Err… I like the big Tesco in Camberley.

Svalberg · 01/05/2022 19:44

We've been to Sindlesham for the day, today. Does Blackwater still have a Roccos? That's good, the pizza sticks coated in parmesan especially.

@FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep

I'm sure they would call themselves puddings 😀. Bakewell Puddings.

Apologies, to be fair, I was only in Bakewell for dinner, and the pudding shops were closed.

So many sarcastic and negative comments. We really enjoyed our stay. Our home is the Peak District area

I'm not buying it op. No one who lives in the Peak District would wax lyrical about Aldershot or Farnborough, ever.

I remember a Location, Location, Location episode when Kirsty A was touting Aldershot as the next new up and coming area. That was many years ago now. I thought she was bonkers at the time and so it proved.

Do I know you? Roccos garlic sticks are the best! My daughter still gets a bag whenever she goes back.

FromOurHatsToOurFeet · 01/05/2022 20:06

Blackwater has an Aldi with a Lidl opposite. I'm not sure what more you could ask for in a holiday destination.

@Maireas but our cities and towns are not. Going into Sheffield town centre is not a nice place anymore and I've lived here for 50 years.

But Aldershot and Farnborough town centres are dumps. Never great, but steadily going downhill.

I've been reading these posts to my husband and we've been in hysterics over some of them.

Farnborough town centre never recovered from the loss of the funfair mirrors in the toilets to be honest.

I went to Aldershot once. Once.

Me too!
Once.....

I quite like a trip to Basingstoke - we visit Milestones Museums and Wellington Country Park. Like OP, these places are rarely crowed and it’s a welcome relief from the busyness/traffic of Worthing & Brighton.

Despite living by the sea and the downs I love how green Hampshire is, especially around Farleigh Wallop and Alresford. It’s a different world to my urban surroundings.

They’re still there!

OppsUpsSide · 01/05/2022 20:45

OK hands up, I actually do go on holiday to Aldershit once a year, because I grew up there. It is fun though! Take the DC to Frensham, Tilford, Elphicks, that steam fair place whose name I can’t remember. I thought it was the joy of revisiting childhood haunts but maybe it is a bonafide holiday destination!

I can absolutely recommend the Gig House. Extra points if you spot someone ordering Stella at 9am.

KirstenBlest · 01/05/2022 20:49

Know the area well but never thought of it as a holiday destination

Aldershit is the Billingham of the South!

My area, Farleigh Wallop and Cliddesden, great rural school there too.

Nothing, except perhaps a local "character" ranting about the dangers of eating meat and watching the BBC.

FleeceNavidadfromtheSheep · 01/05/2022 21:40

Ooh, randomly I am passing through at speed on the M3 right at this moment. It's rainIng and there are many traffic cones.

nannynick · 01/05/2022 21:42

I guess it's relative. If you live in a city centre without any parks, the army ranges, commons and woodland of the Berkshire / Surrey border may seem very good.

Living here though I far prefer going on holiday to mountains in Wales or Scotland.

It is nice though living in the area, as I can go out of my home and be in woodland within a few minutes.

The Jolly Farmer is a lovely pub! My DH used to work at the Black Barn many moons ago.
