Had our baby last week, DH has been asking when the in laws can come and visit which iv not been ready for but agreed they could come today, they've now cancelled last minute without a reason.

AIBU to tell DH they are no longer welcome until I am ready for them to come this time!?

I don't think it's fair. It's awful they cancelled but why can't they come see the baby?

JudgeRindersMinder · 26/04/2022 09:22

Don’t be so bloody petty. No wonder there are issues in families when you think like this

TweetTweetMF · 26/04/2022 09:22

YABU. They are his parents and your child's grand parents it's not like they did something terrible. I'm sure you've cancelled on people before.

Idontevenknow · 26/04/2022 09:26

YABU

StrangeCondition · 26/04/2022 09:28

Sounds a bit silly, they can cancel for whatever reason they like, they shouldn't have to pay for that by you not allowing them a visit

Lazypuppy · 26/04/2022 09:28

Wow unless huge back story you are being ridiculously petty! These are your baby's grandparents. Does it really matter that they cancelled?

StrangeCondition · 26/04/2022 09:29

Wow, so if they cancel that means they can't arrange another visit? Seems harsh and a bit childish OP

Lazypuppy · 26/04/2022 09:29

Wow unless huge backstory YABU and so petty. These are your baby's grandparents. Does it really matter that they cancelled, 1 week after birth i'm sure you're mostly home anyway. Talk about creating problems that don't need to be there

watcherintherye · 26/04/2022 09:30

I don’t understand. You didn’t really want them to come, but you’re still not happy now they’ve cancelled? I’d just see it as buying you a bit more time! You can’t stop your baby’s grandparents from visiting unless there’s a huge back story.

First child OP?

Bet your parents have been round already 🤔

Last minute cancellations are annoying but there might be a good (personal/medical) reason they don't want to share with you given that you seem pretty hostile to them!

I think you need to explain why you're so dead set against them seeing their son and new grandchild? It's a pretty massive and exciting event for them, unless they're weird.

I didn't particularly want my MIL turning up the day after I brought DS1 home (and did ask her to go away again when she was still there three days later) but I tried to remind myself that she was there for the baby, not me. And she did loads around the house to help and has been a brilliant granny for the 18 years since then.

Think you a bit of growing up to do. It's not about your interests anymore, it's about your child's.

rocketfromthecrypt · 26/04/2022 09:32

YABU. These are his parents. I know you're the one who's given birth so it isn't exactly the same, but how would you feel if he told you your parents weren't allowed to visit?

Oh FFS, sorry for the multiple posts

Hoppinggreen · 26/04/2022 09:33

Unless there is a huge backstory here then you are being pretty unreasonable
