I have no desire to further the ambitions of Elon Musk.

That's nice dear.

He doesn't own it yet.

Rookiemistake · 26/04/2022 08:50

SilverHairedCat Not sure why you need to put the condescending "dear". Does it give you some sense of satisfaction? Weird.

MrsWooster · 26/04/2022 08:53

Were you ok with the ambitions of the previous owners?

SirChenjins · 26/04/2022 08:54

I agree. Twitter is a race to the bottom anyway - god knows where Mr Musk will take it. I deleted my Twitter account a while back (and yes, dear @SilverHairedCat , it's very nice) and my life is hugely better for it.

Wanderingowl · 26/04/2022 08:55

But you were ok with furthering the ambitions of Jack Dorsey, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal and Talal Ibrahim Al Maiman, among other equally dubious people. On a platform notorious for vile abuse of women and pedophile apologists being allowed on a constant basis, while those who objected were routinely banned. I mean it's nice and all that you're leaving, because twitter is a vile cesspit, but your moral compass is a bit off, if you're leaving now but not at the depravity of the last few years.

TheMarzipanDildo · 26/04/2022 08:56

I don’t get this attitude at all. What was so good about the previous lot?

CharityShopChic · 26/04/2022 08:57

I'm not sure Mr Musk will be that interested in my tweeting on the #AncestryHour hashtag.

Snowflakes1122 · 26/04/2022 09:03

Not sure any of the other big social media platform owners are great to be honest.

I'd say he's desperately worried 😂

Exactly this.

Ouch

harsh but fair

AnyFucker · 26/04/2022 09:07

Twitter is an absolute cesspit. I left years ago.

Precisely 👏🏻

lickenchugget · 26/04/2022 09:07

I for one am pleased he’s taking it over. Maybe people will be allowed to post what a woman is now.

lassof · 26/04/2022 09:10

Hilarious

FOJN · 26/04/2022 09:14

Why have yo felt the need to announce it? The world really doesn't care whether you're on Twitter or not. Have you left because EM has made comments advocating for free speech? I know that's a problem for many authoritarian loons at the moment.

JustBloodyListen · 26/04/2022 09:16

I do hope Twitter will be able to continue to function without your presence. So many were only there to hear the pearls of wisdom @Rookiemistake used to provide.

Toottooot · 26/04/2022 09:18

Aw min, bet he wishes he’d niver bought it now. Maybe he’ll ask for a refund.

Yet you never had issue with women currently being refused free speech or 'sex' being the only category omitted in the 'hate group' reporting?

AnneElliott · 26/04/2022 09:20

I agree Twitter is a cess pit of misogyny where women are banned for saying factual matters and yet rape and death threats are allowed to stand.

Joanna Cherry's take down of the Twitter exec with all the examples of what's allowed to stay up on Twitter really set out the issue. So I'm not worried that it will get worse and hopefully it might improve.

ShinyS1 · 26/04/2022 09:20

Twitter is a platform to enable many deeply unpleasant people to attack free speech, individuals etc. I'm pleased you will be leaving, and dearly hope everyone else does the same. One down and all that.

Op should've tweeted their announcement....

sonjadog · 26/04/2022 09:21

I am not deleting my account. I am sure Elon Musk doesn't care about that either.

SiobhanSharpe · 26/04/2022 09:47

I am mildly optimistic. TBH Musk couldn't do much worse, in any case.
And with any luck we will no longer have to see Twitter 'moderators' crowing about how they can ban people for giving dictionary definitions of words like woman, mother etc etc.
