I have no desire to further the ambitions of Elon Musk.

OP posts:

But you were ok with furthering the ambitions of Jack Dorsey, Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal and Talal Ibrahim Al Maiman, among other equally dubious people. On a platform notorious for vile abuse of women and pedophile apologists being allowed on a constant basis, while those who objected were routinely banned. I mean it's nice and all that you're leaving, because twitter is a vile cesspit, but your moral compass is a bit off, if you're leaving now but not at the depravity of the last few years.

Exactly.

Musk is problematic in some ways eg his dislike of unions but Twitter was a cesspit of problems with practices like shadow bans and suppression of views that they don't like. I don't think user data is any safer with Bezos, Zuckerberg, Dorsey etc

TheBarkingChain · 26/04/2022 11:23

If you think people aren't posting about that topic constantly you haven't been on twitter recently.

They regularly get banned though, that’s the issue. Hopefully not for much longer.

I follow a lot of high profile feminists on twitter, they have no problem saying variations of 'a woman is a woman' (daily or even hourly at time).

But as I say, Musk won't change much, if at all. That kind of micro-moderation is way too granular for the richest man in the world.

ticktockriojaoclock · 26/04/2022 11:26

I excited to get back on twitter!
What ambitions are you referring to OP?

Thephantom · 26/04/2022 11:27

I get you OP. I deleted my twitter account and sold my Tesla.

Copperpottle · 26/04/2022 11:28

Literally everything you do or own benefits for evil billionaire. Are you going to stop staring clothes and eating food, too? Bit ridiculous to suddenly decide this is where you draw the line when you've probably been supporting child labour, human rights abuses and modern slavery in many of your everyday purchases.

It's still out there in the world not caring that you hate Musk. Surely you should have had it crushed on principle?

What with all the fuel prices and ni contributions increasing I didn't want to lose money 🙂

Katya213 · 26/04/2022 11:56

So what, do what you like!

Bikeybikeface · 26/04/2022 12:01

I love a good flounce…..

"I'm not sure your sudden moral peacocking makes you look as good as you think."

"Moral peacocking" what a fantastic phrase and perfect way to describe OPs post! 👏🏻👏🏻

ClaireEclair · 26/04/2022 13:09

Twitter is an awful place and they already allow hardcore porn to be shared along with abuse to women as well as horrendous MAP accounts (these are people that support child abuse). They deleted Trump’s account but allow members of the Taliban to use it. Elon Musk believes in free speech which means things will probably get even worse but that doesn’t mean that they were rosy to begin with. At least Musk doesn’t appear to be a hypocrite.

jcyclops · 26/04/2022 13:14

So you've deleted your twitter account. What next? Your mumsnet account?

That’ll teach him. Mr Musk thought he could mess with you, he’ll know better for next time. 🤣

"Elon Musk believes in free speech"

Musk bought twitter becuase he'd finally had enough of people bad-mouthing him on it (he's addicted to the site). I wouldn't hold out too much hope for the blanket approach to free speech.

stayathomer · 26/04/2022 13:51

Am only on the nice parts of twitter where theres dogs, cats, books and netflix recommendations. I stay away from anything trending, political or covid related. As long as they leave all of this stuff be, I'll be staying on. I do feel uncomfortable with how much money and power one individual can have though!!

Biker47 · 26/04/2022 13:53

Cool, might get myself a twitter account now.

TheVanguardSix · 26/04/2022 13:56

First Jameela Jamil... and now you, OP?
My Lord, Twitter just tumbled off its axis! Social tsunami, incoming!
<insert cricket chirping sound effect here>

And now back to Who's Cancelling Netflix?.

Yeah, that bastard Musk, providing free internet satellite service and satellite receiver kits to the Ukrainians right now! You show him, OP 👏

His libertarian leanings are quite well known, and his positions on free speech are consistent, so I'm not sure that will be the case

Aw min, bet he wishes he’d niver bought it now. Maybe he’ll ask for a refund.
